  • I never thought that I would make this video... at least not for many, many years. But all good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, this was mine. I hope one day the doors at Disney open up to me again, but for now this is goodbye.

What The What!??? Now I'm crying. So sad about being laid off, Jess. But the great thing about the situation is that you have a plan, which I know will succeed. Thanks for the update.

I live about 20 minutes north of Seattle. If you want to live in WA, I recommend looking into other smaller cities in WA like Bellingham. It’s about a 2 hour driving distance to seattle but you don’t have the crazy high rent prices. Bellingham is also much closer to the border so going to explore Canada would also be more accessible (once the border opens back up).

I lived in Seattle when I was 22-24. It was such an amazing growing experience for me. Do it. My final destination ended up being in LA (I've now been here over 10 years). I am originally from Michigan and I literally just picked up and left. And then I never went back. And LA is close if you want to be back in the parks but don't want to leave the West Coast. I'm happy to chat with you if you have any questions. Lots of love to you Jess! (I've been watching your entire journey and it's been lovely xo)

I would recommend coming to visit Seattle/ PNW before moving,... and really visiting for a solid 2+ weeks minimum if you can. I personally made the decision to move to Seattle from Boston without really having been here (except for a quick weekend trip once), and I would not recommend doing the same in this current time... The PNW has really changed a lot within the last few years, and has faced a lot of issues that has caused loads of people to start leaving the cities sadly. What you see online is not a true reflection of the reality here.
Cost of living is still just as expensive as it was 3+ years ago, but due to Covid and the changing world, so many businesses are closed, the housing crisis is drastically increasing day by day, attractions are limited (if open at all), Job security is limited with the rolling lockdowns and much more. I too thought moving here would bring me closer to the PNW nature, but the reality is that unless you live outside of the cities, you really don't end up taking advantage of the nature as much as you think you would (which is disappointing!) So keep that in mind, that unless you are moving to a more rural town, you probably wont get to experience the natural beauty on a daily basis.
If you can, I would encourage you to rent an AirB&B or something and really come out here, see if its right for you. What you seen online is really not a reflection of what things are truly like here... especially in 2020...You end up paying a LOT (even in Portland) and don't get the same bang for your buck as you used to.
Just some food for thought from another spontaneous cross-country mover!! Wishing you the best of luck with things!

Me and my family are pass holders and we’ve watched you perform many times and you did great, you’ll be back! I’m a performer as well (BFA from UARTS) raising future performer (hopefully) and just know the work will come back around! This is a hard time for artists but we’re a tight community ❤️

Totally agree that your path will at some point lead back to Disney. It sucks that you were laid but I am happy you have your social media job And Portland is a great city to live in! I'd definitely suggest visiting for a week to make sure you'll like it/maybe stay in the neighborhood you want to live in.

Something my horse trainer always taught me. Got to get on the horse and go. Don't think twice take the leap faith and go. I went from New Jersey to Arizona for college. Best decision I ever made. Now I'm living in SF enjoying the west coast.

I lived most of my life in the Portland metro area and went to college in the Willamette Valley. We had to leave for more opportunities and now live in the Denver metro area. Both are way more expensive than you would think they are. Portland is beautiful and has my heart but I wouldn't live there right now. It's super crowded, hard to find places to rent, the natural areas are suffering because it's so crowded. I used to commute in to Portland proper from a direct suberb and a drive that took 20 minutes as a child took over an hour. I would also say liking rain is not the same as the reality that it's 300 days of overcast. There's things you can do to combat that but my husband loves rain and couldn't tolerate living in the PNW because the overcast weather really affected him. I have friends that still live there mostly in the Willamette Valley which is more rural but can be less crowded (no guarantee). They also are starting to experience what Seattle is experiencing where tech companies are bringing people in and affecting housing prices. I know this is really negative but I love the PNW with all my heart, it's just not the place to be right now.

I have a friend from Seattle and she claims the theatre scene is better than New York’s. There are lots of suburbs that might be cheaper than in the city and you can take the ferry in.

I wish you well in all your future endeavors! My father also was one of the cast members who lost their jobs due to Covid so I've seen firsthand how difficult it can be to process. I want out of Orlando as much as you do and hopefully you find a place that's right for you.

It’s so funny, because I absolutely HATE where I’m living right now, and am trying to move to Orlando because I love all the things you hate about it😂
That said, I can totally empathize about hating where you are and really needing change. I would love to hear more about your work at universal! Also, I started WW almost two weeks ago and am major struggle bussing it😥

If you're looking at a more affordable but still progressive and northwoods vibe, consider coming to Minnesota! Minneapolis has a pretty great and thriving theatre community as well as having a fair amount of acting opportunities!

Lots of other comments have warnings and suggestions to try to visit the PNW first... which is fair... but I say go for it!! This is a rare opportunity for you to come out of a crazy time, and you'll never know unless you try. I think you'll probably regret not going more than going and deciding it was a mistake. Just my two cents :)

Girlll I’ve lived in MA my whole life and I’m so ready for change ! I was suppose to start grad school in Boston this fall and then my whole program got cancelled cause of covid so I’m trying to stay positive and take the next year to move somewhere! The pandemic is not making moving easy though 🤣

It's so funny because when you said "I don't like Florida," I was like "Wow, relatable." I had already had these plans pre-covid, but I just moved back home to Cleveland in July. I used to work in attractions at UO and I completely feel you on not wanting to stay in Orlando, especially with the way things are right now. I don't even really know why I felt the need to write this comment, but hopefully in some way this makes you feel even less alone or sad. Can't give any advice on moving to the west coast since I've never been there either, but shoot your shot, girl! Ultimately, I just wanted to say I'm sorry you're going through all that with being laid off. It's been hard all over the country, but the theme park universe is such a bubble and I just.. you know, I get it. (Also, my CP was at the Great Movie Ride in 2013, so I relate on loving working at Studios as well 😂) Oh jeez, this comment is so long already but you just said one more thing I wanted to comment on. I recently got back into therapy and I cannot recommend it enough. It can seriously make SUCH a difference. Good luck in everything you do!

As someone who lives in the PNW, the Seattle area is great, but the city itself is honestly both very dirty and very expensive. But Tacoma is about an hour south of Seattle and is basically turning into the new Seattle - it's so much nicer and prettier, and pretty reasonably priced (though still probably more expensive than Orlando). I would recommend visiting wherever you're thinking about moving first (which I know is hard during covid). I lived in Orlando for a little over a year after college, and have been in the Seattle area for 7.5 years now, and it's so much nicer here! Btw, I hate that almost all the equity performers (and so many other cast members, too) have lost their jobs - so many of my friends are out of work down there, and my heart breaks for you and all of them.

It's kind of ironic to see a video like this since me and my partner are planning to move across Canada from ontario to nova scotia. I say try it, even if you hate it if your job is remote you can still pack up and try somewhere else next year. With nothing tying you down you have the freedom to go crazy.

Okay just finished watching the video. Does florida have restrictions for returning travelers? I think if you are working remotely, you should travel west and see everything in real life. I moved from home for college, to a city I never visited first and I hated it for a long time. I'm still here now, 14yrs later but that's only because of work. I have no other things tying me down here and if I was able to find a job that paid as well, I'd prob move. Make sure if you are going to uproot your life, you do your research first. I've never been to Oregon but California is always great! And there are a lot of affordable smaller cities. I live in Fresno and my rent is $605. You might look into cities up north in California. I hear its beautiful out there. Tahoe is beautiful too but I dont think it's cheap. I'd say travel up the west coast for a few days and find your top 3 places. You need some alternatives if Oregon doesnt happen. That way you arent disappointed and then get stuck in florida and are unhappy.
