Really? Because she always does that same oh I'm innocent or naughty look to the side. Idk the dumb blonde stereotype people do while modeling. You know the shock look with mouth open or grin with hand over it like oops. 😂 lol idk how to explain it. It was every look she did during Reputation tour. So not hate I just would like to see a different facial expression from her and I have in other videos but not often.
I love Taylors facial expressions in this version. You can see rage and frustration with every line. I think this is one of her best, but underrated songs.
Love your comments on this one! As a woman who was called crazy and "hysterical" for years because I was sick and asking for help, I really resonate with this one. Turns out I was literally dying from a rare genetic disease. I have the help I need now and am stable but being dismissed as "crazy" while I suffered will always make me angry.
This song is also about Scooter B. When Taylor complained that he bought her masters, he and Scott B, made statements that implied that she was crazy, mad and angry and that she was making it all up and that she could have had her masters if she wanted them, although Scott refused to sell them to her outright. The line "you took everything from me" was in reference to Scooter buying her masters and then posting that he "owned" Taylor Swift. Those were songs that she wrote from her own ideas and life. Some were written on her childhood bedroom floor when she was a teen. He was taking her life's work (at the time) from her. Scooter is a user and the line "watching you climbing over people like me" was also about Scooter because that is what he does. Scooter's wife joined in on the slamming of Taylor on social media and in interviews. "The master of spin has a few side flings" was in ref to Scooter also because it was kind of an open secret that he was cheating on his wife. She probably knew but did not want to be perceived as a "mad woman". They have gotten a divorce since this song came out.
The term hysterectomy is also rooted in hysteria, hystera= uterus and ectomy = removal. Doctors used to believe removal of the uterus would “cure” hysteria
Ooh I’m early! Loved your reaction. You were spot on with your analysis! Very refreshing when a man actually understands this song (and “The Man” is another song like that) without automatically taking offence. And it’s a beautiful song ♥️. Thanks for sharing this video, hope you have a great day :)
The thing I love ❤️ about Taylor is her knowledge of her sense of worth because her parents taught her that she has worth. She doesn't take people's bs she deliberately throws their shady behavior back in their face and for everyone to see. She said in a interview that she will stop making songs when they stop coming for her.
Loved the insights again! She speaks for a lot of women and girls who feel like they need someone to validate their experiences. Sometimes this get misconstrued as her not being as “serious” or “good” and the reality is, her being called what she’s called, is a perfect example of the paradigm you noted.
I appreciate your breakdown on the historical diagnosis of hysteria; the root word of hysteria is Greek hystera, meaning uterus… (same root as hysterectomy). Literally calling women crazy because of their anatomy, because “no one likes a mad woman…”
Enjoyed your insights, as always, on the lyrics, and especially for this one. Taylor makes her point so well, with poetry and clarity, and I agree, with wonderful vocals. Always enjoy your reactions, Nick!
I would love to see your reaction to her song Renegade with big red machine. Its very much about someone supporting & getting frustrated with someone with mental health issues. Buts its speaking a point of view not often put into words by people!
It's technically 'featuring' taylor but she's pretty prominent. Also after exile anything with Aaron dessner, bon Iver & Taylor in is automatically fire😁
@@nickforell1 Its possibly got parrallels to another song of hers called Forever winter about a friend who died in his early 20s. She honestly has a lot of work that covers very rarely done topics!
Nick, I Aabsolutely love watching your reactions to Taylor Swift! Your vibe is so calming, honest and on point! I also love you encourage feedback if you don't know about something. Looking forward to you reacting to Midnights, other TS albums and the phenomenonal Eras Tour! Keep up the great work! ✌️
What about the line ‘women love hunting witches too. Doing your dirtiest work for you’. I thought that was a clever way to point out how often we judge and turn on each other as women. Enjoying your reactions. ❤
15 min ago?! Damn I am early Also Mad women >>> And even more importantly THE LONG POND VIDEOS>>> The amount of emotions on her face and in her voice while singing is off the charts (People tend to only believe one can sing if theyre belting high notes 24/7 which is totally not true because singing in a low register is hard as well, Taylor has an amazing range and her low register is so damn beautiful and her voice conveys so many emotions while feeling like a warm hug i could and tbh do listen to her all day) [I hate 🛴he who shall not be named🛴 a lot but he sure as hell inspired some amazing songs]
great reaction!🥰 I wish you would listen to the intro she does to all the songs in this Long Pond studio sessions film, where she talks about her thought process when writing each song, especially for this one.
Yesss, “the long pond studio sessions” is amazing, so glad you’re discovering it. 😍 Btw: Has anyone seen the pics from the video , or the video itself, of Taylor and Ice Spice releasing/talking about their collab? I think it’s a Karma album Easter egg: Taylor looks VERY Rep and Ice is wearing an orange dress.. 🤔 Is she “hiding in plain sight”? 🖤🧡
Her singing voice has improved a lot over the past 15+ years, as one would expect haha. I think anyone who still says Taylor swift can’t sing is probably stuck somewhere between 2010 and 2013. At the beginning of her pop career her live performance vocals were sometimes a little questionable. But personally, it didn’t make me like her any less. Because her voice has always had a very bright tone, and she’s always performed with the confidence of someone who has been doing it for years & knows she’s gonna slay the performance and wow the crowd. Her live vocals now are so so good. She’s improved a lot.
Hystero- like hysterical- actually means uterus. Male doctors prescribed being upset as a woman's problem. Baffling why so many men struggle with emotional intelligence, huh? Not you, though - culturally and statistically it's common for men, but you seem to have done some work and the psych background I'm sure goes hand in hand with that. Taylor is so amazing at taking a couple dozen words with music and making this incredibly powerful and nuanced point. So impressive. Really appreciate your reaction and your understanding of women's experiences. It warms the cackles of my libfem heart lol
I think this is talking about Scooter and is the sister to Vigilante Shit where his wife needed proof and she helped her get that proof for the divorce.
Ok, thing to note: she struggles to sing well while dancing at the same time. She gets super pitchy when she does this. Her just sitting with either a mic, guitar or at a piano live is exquisite 🥰
You reaction to the song is amazing. I would push back on the whole "Mad Men Era" angle, though. Have you seen this season's Love Is Blind? One couple has this song ringing in my ears: He's of humble background and she has privilege. He weaponizes her social status every chance he gets so he can gain her resources. For example, he accuses her of classism, which makes her angry. How about that?

Her expressions to this song is so good even when she was performing at the eras tour
I bet, I’m going to have to make sure I see a bunch of eras footage

Her voice is so stunning in the folklore long pond studio sessions
Couldn’t agree more

I agree Topher, amazing facial expressions

I’m so sorry you had to go through that 😞

I love Aaron Dessner’s piano playing in this one! He’s so talented. He wrote the music for the movie Cyrano ❤

So glad you enjoyed. She’s truly a gem
❤This song speaks volumes. Everything she says is true. I have been there and done that. As always Aaron is awesome on the piano.❤
Stay safe
You nailed the analysis. Bet you're really good at and empathic in your job.
Aw thank you Lia, that’s very kind of you to say

Scooter messed with the wrong woman. What a powerful song.

Id love to see that Ellie! I also enjoy the name of the song. I wonder 🤔

@Nick Forell forever winter is absolutely heartbreaking. Full stop. Renegade is awesome tho & would be cracking to get your perspective on it chuck😁
You made me cry. Its so rare to really be heard and understood. Thank you and thank you Taylor.
I’m so glad you enjoyed Susan. Appreciate you ❤️

I love seeing the fire in her eyes during this song

You got here early! I really love her low register like you said. She’s so capable
Easily one of my favorite songs of Taylor's. I really loved your reaction. 💕
Aw thank you! I loved this song, it’s clear why she’s so influential
I love this song and I think the message is so similar to 'The Man' but told so differently
Yay! Been waiting for a new T.Swift react from you🙃
I hope you enjoyed Kate, thank you for the support =)
We need your reaction to YOU’RE LOSING ME!!! IT IS SO GOOD!!
We can make that happen!
Those low notes are my favorite. Taylor is very easy for me to sing for that reason.
great reaction!🥰 I wish you would listen to the intro she does to all the songs in this Long Pond studio sessions film, where she talks about her thought process when writing each song, especially for this one.
Great suggestion! I have in the past, just forgot to this time around. Next time 🙌

I want you to do Taylor’s song False God just to see your reaction at the chorus lol
Okay I’ll definitely get to it Mary!
Was your shirt choice intentional??
Not at all actually haha
Incredible song and performance. Scathing commentary on misogyny - including internalized misogyny - and its corrosive effect on culture.
I can only listen to her music , most of the time with CC on as I have a hard time understanding all her words.
Ok, thing to note: she struggles to sing well while dancing at the same time. She gets super pitchy when she does this.

Did you know Aaron's twin brother also plays in The National?
I did not! That’s nuts. What a talented set of bros
What better way to recover from a bad relationship?
