Good chat. I'm thriving at 65! I'm living my best life, too, though my definition included retiring early. Funny bit: Every time I talked to co-workers to say goodbye, they asked "What are you going to do?". At first, I was perplexed and had no answer. Isn't retirement about doing nothing? Finally, the answer came to me. I would tell them "I'm going to live.". You mention your place in life, and the years behind you. Feeling better than when you were twenty-five. I think that's about the confidence born of all life's experiences, including relationships, career and owning a home. It feels like we've been training all these years, and now have a certain calm clarity. We may not know all the answers, but there are far fewer open questions than when we were twenty-five! I feel secure, able to handle the challenges sent my way, and the freedom to pursue passions closest to my true self. The Me I'd always wished for me. Thanks for a post worth watching. Best of fortune to you.
This whole made me tear up and smile the whole time. There is so much truth here and you said it eloquently and perfectly, especially the part about we have been in training for most of our lives. That is so true. I am so happy for you and that you are living the life you curated and created unique for YOU. Keep dreaming and living. All the best to you as well. 🦋🦋🦋
Thank you! I needed to hear as a little reminder as I’m getting ready for work..at 59 …im typically wearing jeans…vee neck tees…Keds sneakers and usually a pony tail with minimal makeup. My uniform for two decades and I’m fine with it! I will be selling my paid for home for a much smaller home so I can spend more time having FUN and less time doing housework. I’m single though, so I do it all - inside and outside and it’s a lot. Also, I have a friend (65) who is a gem…but she has a terrible habit of noticing every woman…strangers…and noticing how “old they look”. I remind her gently “not everyone has Botox and fillers injected every 60 days (as she does). I don’t…I’m far more wrinkly than her…but that’s okay too! I don’t have a duckbill for an upper lip and a frozen face. I’m going to retire in a few years…but I’m sure I’ll work somewhere part time a few days a week. I’m happier now at 59 than at 35 because frankly, I’m doing ME and don’t give a rip what others think! It’s incredibly freeing! Thank you Lisette! You are beautiful and so smart! 😉💜
I am so happy for you!! Sounds like you how a solid plan and know exactly what you want. I wish you all the best. Thank you for such a thoughtful and long comment. Let’s continue to lift each other up!! Have a wonderful day. 🦋
Hi Lissette! I'm 55, and I was just talking about these very things with a friend who was upset about some comments said to her at the hairdresser. Why do people feel so free to comment or pass their own judgements onto us when they don't even know us? Once I passed 50, I started to answer people "Well, thank you for your opinion", and I walk away.
Omg. I love that. Need to keep that one in my arsenal of responses. I couldn’t agree with you more. Let’s lift and accept each other at whatever phase we are in our lives. The nerve of some people!!! 🦋
So funny, I just told my coworker today that I have no plans to retire. I’m your age and I don’t have any issues with my current job and it’s completely stress free. I make good money and I have a life outside of work. I enjoy the low cost health benefits, the funding of a pension and a generous 401k. So for now, I’m going to live in these blessings and continue with gratitude!
As a 50 something special needs mum in the UK I've spent my life being judged, still happening, but I'm at the point now of when they attack I attack back, sick of others who don't have the whole picture thinking they know best.
The UK??? Wow!! Thank you for watching and your comment. Hats off to you for being a great mum. Good for you for sticking up for yourself. I love that you feel empowered. Keep up the good work. Hola from the US!! 🦋
I get it!! I will often say, "I'm not complaining so why are you"??? And now that I'm retired, depending on what is said I sometimes respond with, "I'm retired, so it's not required".
Yes, you sound like me. I'm 52,and I am not following fashion trends. Comfort is more important. It's very stressful trying to look like everybody else. I like to keep my appearance simple. No 52 and 54 are not retirement ages.
I’m 54 and I don’t give a damn what is a fashion trend. BS. I care about my two adult kids, my house, surrounding myself only with positive energy and have eliminated those that are not. Pursuing my goals. New chapter. God first. 🙏🏼 This single empty nester career oriented woman is selling house, leaving East coast for west coast. No more cold weather. 🌴🙏🏼♥️💃🏻🌟🥰👏🏼

Hey Lissette! I am so happy to find you this morning. I just got off work from my 12 hour night shift. I’m 55. Going to another State this weekend to see my Daughter & 2 Grand Daughters as well as my Parents. I am taking most of my clothes with me & my Daughter is going to help me decide what to keep & what to donate. My wardrobe needs to be pared down so bad. So she’s happy to help me do it. Then back to work after a long weekend. And I’m going back to school to further my Nursing degree starting in January. I am scared to death & excited all at the same time. It’ll make the time that I actually CAN retire much more enjoyable. So it’s a no brainer. You are beautiful & I enjoyed hearing what you have to say. And girl you have GOOD genes! 😊New sub here!
Oh my goodness. This moved me deeply. Decluttering is liberating. Not as much as men that is a fact? What are you referring to???
After replaying the video and listening to it, it sounded differently in my head than it did when I said the words out loud. What I meant to say was that women undergo a lot more pressure than men and I realize now that is not how it came out so I decided to edit the video to remove that piece. Sorry for any confusion.
