Townes said something like Hank didn’t just write sad songs but desperate songs. He clearly knew when he wrote this song that he wasn’t long for this world. Awesome take on this Trey
A soul could live a thousand lifetimes. And spend every possible minute living, breathing ,and playing the music. Over and over again. But still not be able to “hit tha note” like you. I think Hank was sitting in on this one with ya🔥
I've been working on Country guitar after a long, long time playing rock, blues , Beatles and etc. For me, your style and riffs are approachable and I have been learning a lot from your renditions of these great country songs. Thanks for helping me find that Country sound !
When I sing along with this song, I always change the words to “for my life of sin, Jesus paid the cost”. Great song and performance as always. Got to see you in Louisville with Rob and tommy. It was an amazing show
I watched a very young Tre on the Grand old opera sing : Jimmy Brown the News Boy. He is great now as he was then. I hope he gets all the breaks he needs. ❤
Hey, really enjoyed this one! You have a good voice, great guitar playing, and chose a timeless classic of a song. Much appreciated. BTW: when you hit those long notes the glasses buzzed and there were strong hints of Dwight Yokum in your voice there. Good stuff
Well done, sir! Such a classic song - written by Leon Payne. Hank’s version is outstanding. Tom Petty and Chris Hillman/Herb Petersen’s takes are also great. Nice work, Trey!
I just hit like as soon as I clicked on the videos. I mean. it's Trey Hensley of Course it's going to be a stellar performance :) You didn't disappoint.
Thanks for your videos! I'm in my 50's and have been on a journey over only the last 4 years-ish to listening to country music. I'm finding so much that I love. Recently, you have been one of my inspirations into this genre that I'm discovering and enjoying. I love how good of a singer you are. Obviously, the picking is above and beyond. I appreciate the lesson's.
Good job man, would like to see some more mearl haggard songs. If you ever get a chance to do "Sing me back home" that would be great. Reminds me of my brother who passed on just last year at age 31.
This is the way I'd like to play. He uses open chords, keeps the rhythm going, and doesn't need another person or machine to keep his rhythm going. He can play and sing on the porch with a few friends who drop over to chat, with him being the only one with an instrument. Or just enjoy it alone. He plays an interesting intro, bridge, outro which sounds great. No one teaches this stuff. TH-cam teachers don't teach this stuff. Teachers on TH-cam don't teach how to play the guitar without having someone or something else play the rhythm. It seems to be all soloing, improvising, and most beginners did not start with the intention to do this. Or teaching individual songs where you "hit this string then that one" which doesn't help since now you have to memorize 1000 different songs - not practical at all. They teach you how to play a million individual songs, but don't teach you how to play the guitar. With people I've talked to over the years, they start guitar with the idea of playing alone or for a few friends like I described. I read that over 90% of beginner guitar players quit in the first year. I think the reason is because no one is teaching them how to play for friends, the spouse, at a campfire or something similar. So most beginners quit and go back to watching NetFlix.
First of all, so so great as always. But also, do you have the ability to just think of a guitar you may want to play and then it just magically appears? Your guitar collection is insane!!🤣🤣 I know I know you deserve it cause you can play any instrument like it’s supposed to be played but man!! Kinda jealous 🤣🤜🤜
Bro you nailed those octave parts. Seniors high and lonesome sound mixed with a little George Anderson I think. Next time you find some sadness and pain in your life write a song you'll blow up lmao. Love that f hole flat top nice touch keep it up bro.
wow is this a new model or something? I remember in the past thinking your impromptu recordings deserved a better mic or capture device, but dang it sounds like you upgraded?@@TreyAHensley
I love how you don't only play Bluegrass. it seems to me if it's good music, you're into it. to me that's the mark of a true musician.
I think this is my favorite Hank Williams song. Tough to pick just one. Trey of course does it awesome.
Townes said something like Hank didn’t just write sad songs but desperate songs. He clearly knew when he wrote this song that he wasn’t long for this world. Awesome take on this Trey
Hank didn’t write this one.
LEON PAYNE wrote it in 1948
Great song choice, as always. 1:08 Love that you're always willing to throw in a flatpicking solo in just about every cover you do.

You are currently my favorite new Country music performer.
Crackin' version of the wonderful song that was written and originally recorded by Leon Payne. The wonderfully talented blind singer songwriter.

Fantastic trey, cheers for that, happy centenary to the master hank williams👍🏴
Another request for you to make a production quality CD of your cover songs, just you and a guitar. I'd love to listen to them.
This is such a beautiful cover. Absolutely incredible.
Trey, you're one of the greatest musicians of this generation, I hope you're aware of that :)
Nice little bluenote placement. Thanks man.
Man you can sing son!!!
That guitar sounds like an old Rex Royal. Paul McCartney played one when he was a teenager! Great true music Trey!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I always try to see the names on these old guitars as well as the new ones and I was wondering what it was
Great cover you did it justice I think and you was also the reason I learned this song
Your voice should be on the radio brother. 👍
When I sing along with this song, I always change the words to “for my life of sin, Jesus paid the cost”. Great song and performance as always. Got to see you in Louisville with Rob and tommy. It was an amazing show

You nail your videos EVERY Single TIME! Always ready for your next one! Thanks Trey!
Siempre es un gusto escucharte.

Well done, sir! Such a classic song - written by Leon Payne. Hank’s version is outstanding. Tom Petty and Chris Hillman/Herb Petersen’s takes are also great. Nice work, Trey!
That should have been Pedersen, not Petersen.
This may be my favorite Hank song. Also like Ramblin Man. You of course sound great on this cover.
Great job on his birthday, you done it very well!!!!

What I'd say
So good
Made my day:D
I got almost the same guitar, it was my grandmas Gibson she willed to me. They don’t project much sound but they got a really cool old sound.
Good job man, would like to see some more mearl haggard songs. If you ever get a chance to do "Sing me back home" that would be great. Reminds me of my brother who passed on just last year at age 31.
Hank meets Daryle Singletary ! That good 👌 .
Hell yeah
Love it. Skills on the guitar too!
Boy I wish I knew how to come up with melody lines like that for songs.❤ love it
right!? so good; Leon Payne wrote it though, but Hank was a master of melody for sure.
Great music 🎵

Sweet Trey. Look up Cody Jinks Lost Highway. It's great too.

What a beaut. Nice performances at Winfield, too. You using an anthem pickup for those shows?
Thank you! Yeah, the Anthem SL
Nice
Is that an Odell ?
Great voice! What strings do you use on that archtop?
Trey, you always do songs the justice they deserve. What do you use to record audio? Sounds great!
Thank you very much! I’m just using my iPhone for the recordings. Nothing additional
Hello,, Is that a Gretch New Yorker Trey is Playing ? Thanks
Song written by the great songwriter Leon Payne.
Yep
Singin' like a bird, man.
Can't go wrong playing Hank, he's 1a as a songwriter, 1b is John Prine...
Did you used to sing in church?
I did
2 videos in a row i make the 100th comment.. what's the chances of that? 😊
is this all recorded on an iphone??
Sure is
