    The new shortcut to merge 2 verts is “M”. Thanks for the longer, more in-depth content. I literally just requested it like 3 days ago. You may have picked up a new Patron.

    • @Airtight215
      @Airtight215 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Rogue Nero That's because you're using an old version of Blender. I'm referring to the newest version. Not sure what you mean by, "what you've tested". A shortcut is a shortcut, no need for testing.

    I used to do this for Flight Simulator aircraft, except that I didn't use Blender and the models were definitely not low poly by the time FS9 came out. I couldn't possibly give you any useful tips on Blender techniques, but I can tell you that being able to tell what 3D shape is represented in the "3 view" image is an insight that takes time to master. It's not that the line drawings aren't accurate (well ... that depends on where you got the drawing), it's that line drawings don't always indicate compound curves too well. Having a few photos of the subject (as you did with the spoiler) can sometimes help ... sometimes! This was entertaining, as usual, but in this case I'll stick with my tried-n-true methods I've been using for 15 years and then import the model to Blender as an OBJ.
    P.S. The way you built the brake light is how I build entire aircraft, one section at a time.

    (Blueprint Tip) I'm really new to this modelling - but with the few symmetrical blueprints I have used - I first bring it in to something like MS Paint and find the dead centre (by pixel coordinates) and draw a (1px) vertical line down the centre of the blueprint (and a small horizontal 1px line to make a cross-hair) - I find this makes lining it all (front / back etc) up very easy in blender (zoomed waaaay in to line up perfectly).

    that's a great quote at around 25:00, "It's always a compromise, low poly, you can't get every line so find the one that's the most important" I truly believe that learning low poly is a huge advantage for beginners because they can get used to the idea of getting a base shape first before going into detail

    • @FinalDriveGame
      @FinalDriveGame 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gotta learn low poly before you jump to detail. Sure anyone can buy the cgmasters Corvette tutorial series, but it doesn't seem to teach the fundamentals. Just leads to people constantly begging for tutorials

    • @zackakai5173
      @zackakai5173 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ^^^ That in my opinion is the single biggest problem with the way Blender is taught to total beginners. Modifiers like the subsurf are amazing tools for more experienced modelers, but most Blender tutorials aimed at newbies teach them to become over-reliant on the modifiers and they become a crutch to work around a lack of basic topology skills (as evidenced by the large number of help threads around the internet of people asking why the subsurf modifier "isn't working" on their mesh consisting entirely of N-gons and poorly-spaced edges).

    I have no idea how he mirrored the tires so that he can make both the left and right ones at the same time. The video cuts and all the sudden there are 2 cylinders, and when I create a new cylinder only 1 comes up, and adding a mirror modifier does nothing. Can anybkdy help please?
    Edit: So I figured it out after much trial and error, but still don't really know how it was done because I didn't want to undo it and risk not being able to figure it out again haha. Will have to do a test/practice one to see exactly what I did.
    This video helped out a ton. I made a Mustang by following along. I discovered pretty late into the modeling that the blueprint I used didn't exactly line up when doing the mirrors, so I basically make them from scratch and very loosely followed a couple real pictures from a book I have. Overall the model turned out great for my first car, and everyone I've shown loved it. Thanks, Imphenzia!

    ctrl RMB also extrudes and places the element (vert, edge, face) at your cursor.
    select two verts and press [F] to fill the edge.
    to fill a face, you only need to select 2 edges and press [F]
    you can also press [alt RMB] to select the edge loop that goes around the holes
    for the taillights (using circle instead of cylinder): change snapping to face, and set to project individual elements. then in the viewport, g, limit to y-axis, and ctrl to snap.
    for the windows: select the windows, the one with the solidify modifier last, and [ctrl L] to bring up the link menu.

    i ALWAYS have the same issue and its making me crazy ! The sideview of the blueprints not only have the sideview, they also have quite a bit of depth so you can almost see to the "center line" of the car. And when you have a blueprint (a car) with many sidelines, its almost impossible to see the sideview only.

    Seeing you use Snip was painful. That's going away, btw, and the replacement is terrible. ShareX is where it's at. The interface is a bit daunting at first because it can do Everything. So you have to just tweak a few things to be what you want. Disable all the upload stuff first. But one option is a color picker, Super handy to put to just print screen. How often do you really need a screen grab of your entire monitor (Also that sucks with multiple monitors). But it automatically saves the image (again, an option) AND copies it to clipboard. I'm sad it's not on linux as well, but you can't always get cross platform. Anyway, I highly recommend it.
