What did you think? If you've flown an EZ-R, do you agree with the video? Leave a comment below! 👇Original Lift 2EZ video: th-cam.com/video/M7s_X1emCZU/w-d-xo.html
I bought my lift EZ R. last fall. Everything you reviewed is the same thoughts I have. I did get a small oscillation at times. As I trimmed out, that improved. Nice job on the review.
Can you do a video on your VHF set up? Been through 3 different radios and 2 different headsets, including bluetooth, and can't get it dialed in. Finally just gave up flying local airports that want ultralights on the CTAF for now
Sorry for the late reply, but it sounds like you found my helmet video haha! I also did add a ground shield to the spark plug wire of my motor, I'll make a video on that soon.
@@AveryFlies really? i know zero people here flying APCO. i have a karisma EN-A but its not very good for landings. doesnt carry enough energy for my weight to get down gently. even arms all way up and flare last second doesnt give me enough time to slow down. i cant fly in zero wind.
Sad to hear! The Lift 2EZ is a little better, and the EZ-R is a little better than that in flare. Surprised that you don't see any Apco fliers, it's a big name in wings, reserves, and harnesses. I guess that's instructor preference, our school is an Apco dealer because they have a huge range of equipment
@@AveryFlies cheers mate. make me feel bit more confident now. hey i have a total unrelated question which nobody could answer here in china: what happens if you have an insane amount of thrust? lets say you fly a moster 185 and spin a 130 triblade eprop for example. that should be around 70-75kg thrust. now imagine you suddenly have double of that. is there something like "too much"? you fly level and add 155kg thrust on your normal wing. you just climb fast? or the wing will get dragged behind so much that it could stall?
@@cloudpandarism2627 you could stall yourself, the thrust doesn't really increase a climb, it increases your angle of attack and then maintains airspeed, and just like any wing a paraglider has a critical angle it will stall at, even under power. It would take a LOT of power to do that though. I fly a moster, and though I only have a 2 blade, a 3 blade would still not get me close to that point. We're talking tandem foot launch 300 cc sized engines to cause this, and even then I wonder if that would be enough to do it since the rig would be heavy. The wing obviously can't allow you to hover, so unless you're doing power loops, as you slow your forward airspeed by pitching up the glider lines would lose tension, the air would slow and the wing would lose pressure, and you'd stall. If you went full power to swing forward, then added brakes to push the wing back, you can stall pretty much any wing relatively easily. Same idea, reaching a critical AoA under power, just the brakes accelerate it. Short answer: Possible? Yes. Likely? Not really, you have to have terribly sized equipment.
Avery, do you possibly know the difference between the 2EZ- R risers and the Lift EZ risers? I ask because you know I have the EZ but my risers look suspiciously like the R's. When I check the site it appears they are normal issue for EZ. Any input would be greatly appreciated, not many around here fly apco.
The EZ-R is the second iteration of the lift EZ, with some tweaks to get more handling and auto-balancing when trimmed out (according to Apco.) I'm not sure what the exact riser differences are, but I assume there are some, and since it's a generational improvement the differences are probably small.
@@AveryFlies Thanks...yeah alot seems same, long trim range to go into reflex mode, tip steering only recommended when on reflex and or speedbar! That bit is a bit fuzzy so Im staying away from main brakes with trims out any at all until I can get more clarification. Kinda feel same about speedbar. Wish they were more clear on this issue.
I would say yes, if the trims stayed neutral (or all the way in if it launches fine) it's an acceptable beginner wing. The brakes are more sensitive on the EZ-R vs the 2EZ even trimmed in, and the risers are more complicated, so you'd want to be careful to not pull too much brake and keep the risers set up correctly in the beginning. Under good supervision with solid training, I'd expect a beginner to be fine on it.
@@AveryFlies Very helpful video thanks. Also can I try the tip steering in the neutral setting just to get a feel of them without making the wing faster?
@@GregOShaughnessy-yk1kk yes, it basically cups the wing tip like a little parachute right at the tip. It can be used at any speed, it's just not very effective compared to brakes.

Good review on the riser upgrade, thanks!
Saweeet! Thanks for the great review man!
I like my EZR with my trike. Very nice wing
That’s a really good concept for a wing!
Impressive.
Damn that's a sexy propeller!
Ladies and gentlemen, the propeller donor 👏
Cool review. Next time try using both tip steering and breaks at the same time. I do on the f3, really balances the trim.
I thought just brakes was snappy enough, but I could see how both would really swing it around quick.

OMG another coincidence! i am flying an APCO wing which looks exactly same haha! you
Yesterday we had 3 pilots with this color wing (devil). It's a super popular color choice.

Can the EZ R be used as an EZ by a beginner if left in neutral and tip steering not used (until more experienced)?

Why TF you only have 1300 subs!?!
Just out here doing it for fun I guess 🤷😬 share with a friend to help a poor TH-camr in need ♥️
