Only just heard of Taylor's passing and I'm shocked. I can't say I've listened to much of the Fighters but from what I have heard, Taylor was one hell of a drummer and the band won't be the same without him. RIP
Taylor Hawkins is a drummer I studied throughout my adolescence and teen years as a drummer because I always believed he wielded an unbreakable control and poise on the kit. always laying down an amazing rock groove.
I met him in Cape Town randomly while working. He was totally cool and a true dude and gentleman. Huge respect for paying attention to a bunch of peeps who on a normal day would be ignored.
Thank you FF for all the amazing music you have given us to listen to and cherish forever. Taylor you were an amazing musician. My thoughts and prayers are with your wife, kids, friends, family, and of course the FF and crew. A special prayer is for Dave and hope that he will get the strength to make it through this. I have heard his say in interviews that he really had a hard time after Kurt. Taylor and Dave were like brothers. I am still in shock and my heart is still breaking. Such a loss.
Basically the kit looks great, but the heads are really used. Some drummers like old, well used heads because they're broken in and some like the sound they make. I'm kind of OCD when it comes to that, I don't like beat up, nasty heads. I love that Gretsch Renown 57 Chevy Motor City Blue kit, I love the chrome trim pieces.
I think most drummers would play their heads for longer if they wern't endorsed. If I ever get endorsed, I'm changing those fuckers every 2 or 3 shows.
I met Taylor 2 times in the 90's and couldn't believe it that he remembered meeting the 1st time .... his loving energy and creativity is expressed clearly in his magic. Love his work on the reissued Dennis Wilson songs
The man is incredible. He’s the drummer “the heartbeat of the Foo Fighters”, for real good reason lol! I see him in the same light as I would a David Bowie, of course. All humans. Some just get more attention than others
He found his life's purpose at the age of 10 while I'm halfway through college, eating junk food and physically crying about having no clue of what to do hahaha
Caleb Garza College is overrated. Most companies are going to train you, regardless of position. Just finish a degree if some sort. Its about who you know.
Taylor Hawkins you are cutting yourself to short, you are rock royalty and a legend! Great of you to be so humble, you totally ROCK with the best of them!!
Rumble Fish poster on the wall. That takes me back, sitting with my dad in the lounge with the lights off watching an S.E. Hinton double bill on BBC2 with The Outsiders and Rumble Fish. Recorded it on VHS and then watched both over and over again. Its now 20+ years later, in the last 7 years I've lost numerous friends and my mother. I'd give it all to be sat back in the lounge, watching it on TV and to have it all ahead of me again.
To the Dads out there. If you have a son or daughter with a gift and a passion that they find when they're young, your job is to help them make it their job. Love, attention and focus is all they need. Done.
I come back to this video so many times, not for the interview (alltough its a good interview), but because of the drum sound. That kit is the best sounding kit I have ever heard.
For anyone's interest, the picture with Dave Grohl was taken at Slane Castle, Ireland 2003. I know because I was there. 80,000+ people. Unbelievable show! Lineup PJ Harvey Feeder Queens of the Stone Age Foo Fighters Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Headlining) It was incredible as Foo's had just released "One by One." QOTSA had just released "Songs for the Deaf" and The Chilli's had just released "By the Way." 3 great albums! Ps. I was at a Metallica show just two days earlier in Dublin.... a proper week of Rock!
holy fuck that's incredible. the chili's, while i'm not so hot on by the way, were at the peak of their stage presence at that show. pj harvey was doing great as well.
Similar story...buddy had an old Whitehall kit in his garage....sat behind them and played the intro to "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2 having never played before...my friend was blown away and ended up selling me the kit for $65.00. That was 32 years ago...drums saved my life and gave me something to do creatively. Gave me direction and aspiration. His kit sounds great....dirty or not, I have a kit made up from various brands and they "match" amazingly to my ear...look like hell but they sound incredible!!
+MrJoey5 The Six Stroke Roll and the Paradiddle Diddle have the same sticking, they just start from different points: SSR=RllrrLRllrrLR PDD=RLrrllRLrrll Capitalized letters=accents
Wow, I can relate to him. Hes an aminzing an cool drummer. I like his style and respect his art. Thank you Taylor! you are a great drummer for many, including me, around the world.
What I love about Taylor is that he seems like the kind of person who’s made great money, but only invests it in things that are really meaningful to him. I’ve never been one for status symbols and pointless over-the-top luxury, so the whole “I might drive a ‘69 Chevy” vibe is really cool.
That's some amazing shit! I did the same when I first sat down behind a drum kit at the age of 11 :D RIP Taylor, you were one of my drum heroes besides king Copeland!
I like Taylor Hawkins sounds great and is down to earth and seems to not take anything for granted he's got a good heart and mind and a latex back personialityi think he's better then he thinks
OMG! Taylor Hawkins has a Brian May RED SPECIAL, and then that same shape of guitar with a brown finish. He also has an EVH Black and White FRANKENSTRAT! He also has a the Red, White and Black Frankenstrat. This is the first time that I've seen a Black and Yellow Frankenstrat. Taylor Hawkins may not see himself in the same realm as David Bowie and Stewart Copeland of the Police, but he has his own realm!
Only just heard of Taylor's passing and I'm shocked. I can't say I've listened to much of the Fighters but from what I have heard, Taylor was one hell of a drummer and the band won't be the same without him. RIP
unbelievably sad
Humble, smart, articulate and friendly with the heart of a energetic kid. Huge loss.
Taylor is one of my favorites... and that kit sounds simply amazing!
Check out Pierre Moerlen, Terry Bozzio, Ralph Humphrey and Billy Cobham
That Great Gretsch Sound ;)
Isn't that ironic don't ya think he went from playing with Alannis Percocet to Foo fighters that's awesome he's a great drummer
The fact that he’s a Queen fan is one of the huge amount of qualities that he has
Taylor Hawkins is a drummer I studied throughout my adolescence and teen years as a drummer because I always believed he wielded an unbreakable control and poise on the kit. always laying down an amazing rock groove.
I'm so sad. He was such a great person. Rest in peace. Your music will live forever!
I met him in Cape Town randomly while working. He was totally cool and a true dude and gentleman. Huge respect for paying attention to a bunch of peeps who on a normal day would be ignored.
Vortex Afternoon Music that's awesome. i hope i can meet him one day, he's one of my drumming inspirations.
He is really good at being under appreciated

A terrible skill.
Oggy Oggy You need to get your ass beat
And it's like I've lost and old friend too buddy. I'm crying since I've heard the sad news. May you have a nice journey.

Sending a hug to everyone in pain
His kit looks hammered and dirty ....but it sounds so damn organic and that is so beautiful
Yep that's gretsch for you, they age beautifully
Basically the kit looks great, but the heads are really used. Some drummers like old, well used heads because they're broken in and some like the sound they make. I'm kind of OCD when it comes to that, I don't like beat up, nasty heads. I love that Gretsch Renown 57 Chevy Motor City Blue kit, I love the chrome trim pieces.
Julia Francis it's just the heads, & if they're not broken, why change them...
That is a gretsch renown kit. American maple. Sounds fantastic to me!
I think most drummers would play their heads for longer if they wern't endorsed.
If I ever get endorsed, I'm changing those fuckers every 2 or 3 shows.
Humble musicians of this caliber and level of fame are inspiring as hell. What a guy.
I met Taylor 2 times in the 90's and couldn't believe it that he remembered meeting the 1st time .... his loving energy and creativity is expressed clearly in his magic. Love his work on the reissued Dennis Wilson songs

One of my favorite musicians, just a cool guy and a passionate drummer.
He found his life's purpose at the age of 10 while I'm halfway through college, eating junk food and physically crying about having no clue of what to do hahaha
just keep searching. you'll be 50 before you know it. really.
Wow! You’re clueless and a crybaby.
Good luck.
Oggy Oggy straight savage
Just a suggestion. Have your whole natal chart done. See what it says about your career aspirations. You just might get some insight.
Caleb Garza College is overrated. Most companies are going to train you, regardless of position. Just finish a degree if some sort. Its about who you know.
No words to expresa such a loss...eternal and brillant...thanks for ever...you'll be in our hearts...for ever ♡♡♡
Taylor Hawkins you are cutting yourself to short, you are rock royalty and a legend! Great of you to be so humble, you totally
ROCK with the best of them!!
He was just a completely obsessed with music and a kick ass drummer. Those are the people who deserve success in this business.
He comes off as a really nice, articulate guy.
hugolafhugolaf f
Maybe he is.
Oggy Oggy He is.
He's lovely

What a gorgeous drum kit! While he might not remember that Glasgow Green show I do, what a lineup that day!
His playing in this interview was so smooth and relaxed compared to the foo's usual tight time signature. Loved it, very buttery.
To the Dads out there. If you have a son or daughter with a gift and a passion that they find when they're young, your job is to help them make it their job. Love, attention and focus is all they need. Done.
Such a great groovy rock and roll drummer this guy is. Totally the spirit of Bonham in his playing IMHO.
I come back to this video so many times, not for the interview (alltough its a good interview), but because of the drum sound. That kit is the best sounding kit I have ever heard.
Damn I miss you, Taylor. I’m sorry you lost your battle to drugs. You were a legend, man. We’ll never forget you.
one of my favorite drummer. A piece of his drum kit was on the wall of Hard Rock cafe here in Malaysia
For anyone's interest, the picture with Dave Grohl was taken at Slane Castle, Ireland 2003. I know because I was there. 80,000+ people. Unbelievable show!
Lineup
PJ Harvey
Feeder
Queens of the Stone Age

Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Headlining)

Kevin Ryder Thats so amazing dude!!!
holy fuck that's incredible. the chili's, while i'm not so hot on by the way, were at the peak of their stage presence at that show. pj harvey was doing great as well.
That’s freaking dope! Would’ve loved to experience that but I was 2 💀

Douglas Schramm
Same here.
Although I don’t have any drums and have never tried playing.
Saved a lot of time.
A humble guy who knows how blessed he is. And a fucking good drummer!
Taylor is a bad ass drummer and a bad ass singer too. Much respect.
Your in the realm of Mick Fleetwood and John Bonham-you are the beating heart of the band. God bless-love you rhythmic style.
I cannot believe you're gone man, i just can't believe it.
We're proud to have funded this heartwarming initiative!
My fav drummer. Sooooooo underrated. Talented guy. ❤️🥁
I love how Taylor's drum set isn't pristine, the skins are beat to shit, the cymbal felts are odd. It's a proper jam room!
3:19 I'll bet he was jamming on Fool In The Rain - Led Zeppelin.
Great guy and fantastic drummer!
Nice pradiddle-diddle at the end there. As well as an awesome collection!
Sry my man, but isn't that a six stroke roll? I'm asking cause i'm trying to figure it out.
MrJoey5 think it is a 6
+MrJoey5 The Six Stroke Roll and the Paradiddle Diddle have the same sticking, they just start from different points: SSR=RllrrLRllrrLR

Not a Paradiddlediddle
Six Stroke Rolls (RLLRRL) are Inverted left hand paradiddle-diddles. ( LRLLRR). But they arent the same as regular paradiddle-diddles (RLRRLL)
Hawkins has freaking AMAZING taste in music!! And drummers!!!
The mannerisms, who borrowed from whom, between Taylor and Dave.
So light going, but he is so much more. Dear Taylor, brother and me really love you, man. Safe and peaceful passing.
That kit looks like a 57 Chevy. Sweet!
its a renown 57 gretsch kit
One of my most favorite drummers! :P
Fame hasn’t changed this guy. So humble
R.I.P
What a beautiful soul.
I'd have to say even though he hates doing interviews Taylor really is a likable guy. One of my biggest influences as a drummer!🤘🤘
Wow, I can relate to him. Hes an aminzing an cool drummer. I like his style and respect his art. Thank you Taylor! you are a great drummer for many, including me, around the world.
Miss you, Taylor.
I am glad to see that even rock stars appreciate autographs and music memorabilia like I do.
He was so cool rip Hawkins💔💔
Love that Roger Taylors fun in space album on his wall and also Brian May huitar replica ... classy stuff
What a legend
Rest in Rock brother....
Hawkins is an awesome drummer. Reminds me of Neal Peart. Both have a lot of depth and energy.
Taylor Hawkins is and amongst his Rock And Roll Heroes and friends! Rest In Peace. 🎼🙏🏽
When rock and roll becomes a museum. That's Foo Fighters to me.
Taylor I love your EVH Fenders. I have the Crop Circles (unchained Oakland). Yes you are up there with those drummers. Im a big Copeland fan myself.
Him and Dave are my favorite drummers. They always put a smile on my face when I see them playing.
Cool to hear an American actually know something about living in England during the time of Punk music.
What I love about Taylor is that he seems like the kind of person who’s made great money, but only invests it in things that are really meaningful to him. I’ve never been one for status symbols and pointless over-the-top luxury, so the whole “I might drive a ‘69 Chevy” vibe is really cool.
If there were more Taylor Hawkins in the world I wouldn't hate humanity as much as I do.
D Lynn
Pathetic.

Such a great man and so down to earth! you are an absolute rock legend

Lovin....Taylor Hawkins
Whoever made this video is awesome!
Min 0:50 At the door of Taylor's refrigerator there is a sticker that says: "Drum machines have no soul", I agree !!!
this guy is a treasure
you can do a lot with duct tape
And you can rule the world with a can of WD40 and some duct tape!
M8, you can do surgery with duct tape! That's how they did my vasectomy, wait, wot....
Duct tape is a sin!
Only use gaffers tape ;)
Don't forget a Swiss army knife
Yup best invention in the world
That drum sound!!!!

Such a lovely vibe in this commentary...:)
A legend
Damn he is an excellent drummer!
What a dude.
Fun In Space poster - coolness factor to infinity!
Can you fucking imagine selling a record or something on ebay, and when you meet up with the guy, it's fucking Taylor Hawkins?
I love the Rumblefish poster! I wore that soundtrack out.
Meanwhile the rest of the worlds drummers collect Taylors memorabilia! 🤘😆🤘
Taylors son is a drummer. I bet he will keep all of his things.
