    Where do you install the overflow drain to?? I’m still having issues finding a solution to this

    • @theplumbersplunger
      @theplumbersplunger  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I usually just leave the brine overflow disconnected. No reason really to put it anywhere. If your maintaining the salt level you will see the water getting to high in the brine tank and can bypass the system until it gets repaired.

    Hey! We just bought a home and the softener says the last full production month was February; I noticed the brine tank was essentially empty, and it’s dirty so I want to clean it tomorrow and pick up pellets. Do I need to add water after? Is there anything else I need to worry about after such a long down time?
    Like should I be concerned with the tank and the resin too?

    • @theplumbersplunger
      @theplumbersplunger  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Depending on the system. Most require around 5gal of water in the brine tank but some don’t. My worry would be the resin inside the tank releasing into the water and clogging the fixtures and pipes. Have seen it happen multiple times. Impossible to know if it would happen though until it does.

    • @clapclapscream

      @@theplumbersplunger thanks! I haven’t seen resin beads coming out anywhere (thankfully!). I bypassed it and washed out the brine bin this AM and headed to get the salt for it soon. Planning to fill it with 5gal of tap water first then fill salt pellets to 1/4-1/2 full (will top off to 3/4 when I’m sure it’s working right again). Then undo the bypass and set system to recharge!

      @@jonpitts1978 Like calcium and magnesium that's mentioned above iron can also cause build up, a buddy of mine in Texas told me about the red scale it would leave in his sinks!
      There are two common types of iron in water "ferrous (Iron(II))" and "ferric (Iron(III))". Softeners can only remove Iron(III). But Iron(II) can be washed off surfaces so doesn't leave a scale build up so its not as much of a problem anyway.

It's in the Oregon Specialty Code book to remind plumbers that if they aren't educated in water softening then they have no business installing them without understanding how sodium levels can harm people leading to astronomical lawsuits against businesses dumb enough to install them with zero understanding of how they work. The system can fail over time and if you don't catch it in time those resin beads will clog every fixture in the house. And then u have to flush the whole system out
