KTM 790 Duke has finally been launched in India, and it’s the flagship motorcycle for the Austrian bike maker in the country. The 790 Duke takes Kiska’s design forward and looks like a smaller version of the meaner 1290 Super Duke. It gets features such as a full-LED headlamp and full-colour TFT instrument console. The seat height is rated at 825mm while the fuel tank is capable of holding 14 litres. Power comes from a 799cc parallel-twin motor that delivers 105PS and at 9500rpm and 86Nm at 8000rpm. The 790 Duke has as light kerb weight of just 169kg, and it also packs cutting edge electronic aids four rider modes (Sport, Street, Rain, Track), traction control, launch control, anti-wheelie and cornering ABS with Supermoto mode.
The new streetfighter promises sharp dynamics. The suspension setup comprises of 43mm open cartridge WP front fork and a 12-stage preload-adjustable WP rear monoshock. It gets twin 300mm front discs with radially-mounted J Juan calipers and a 240mm rear disc. It is equipped with MAXXIS Supermaxx ST radial tyres. The 790 Duke is priced at Rs 8.64 lakh (ex-showroom India).

I just have to say is i test rode hero xtreame 200r which is great value for money. Like spec vise it is good, giving 200cc. then i rode mt15 just for curiosity wich have much less torque and engine capacity. And man i was amazed that bike is on whole different level than hero. From that i decided to never judge bike by it's specs. I get it, it is more pricey than hero but it's worth it.
Should have also tried the Apache RTR 2004v RE 2.0

A person spending 10 lacks on a bike can easily put in 2 lacks more and buy the lightest and the flagship bike of its segment the street triple s or the rs , they dont heat and will be easier to use daily in city because of its tall gearing. 790 can be someone's secondary bike , for those who have more expensive bikes than this and wants a light middle weight for city usage and sunday morning breakfast rides, also for those who are "track only" people, but i doubt that it can beat street triple rs timings even on a track though, the 765 rs is faster than the Daytona 675r on the track and this is saying something .This is a bike for those who can buy it on full cash , not for those who are pulling up a loan for a middle weight bike. I hope you understand what im saying.
@Baby Fireblade but then , ktm service centres are everywhere , and the service cost and parts will be much cheaper than the triumphs . So that reliability argument should just not be done i guess.
but again the street triple isnt the flagship bike for Triumph buddy.

plus they have the ROCKET 3 a worthy flagship for them.

1.Feel:Its a twin, can't match the riding feel of an inline3
2.The sound:don't know about others, but I prefer the smooth sound of Inline 3 or Inline 4
3.Aesthetics :when you spend 8 L on a motorbike, you expect people to appreciate the bike. The front looks like 390 which is like 4 L cheaper and the exhaust looks like something from a dirt bike(old habits)
4.Its a KTM, it doesn't the brand value of Triumph or Ducati.
If it was a lakh cheaper, it would have been a great buy as an all around bike but...

The problem is that people complaining about the price don't get to ride the bike along with it's competition for thousands of kms like you guys before justifying the price of each bike. We have to take your word for it and 10 lac rupees is a pretty big amount for it.

Great review! I just went today to test ride one, oh my word it’s nuts this bike! Electronics can save you that’s for sure. Top speed I reached was shy of 200 that’s on a straight and bike relatively new with only demo mileage. Great commuter and definitely worth considering..👌🔑😝🤓
The disheartened part about this bike is that on a glance any layman thinks it of duke390 which is a short coming atleast for the price .
On the upside, you've got a sleeper on your hands in front of any layman ;)

For every KTM bikes there's a Bajaj bike, I will wait for Bajaj 790 cc bike which will be less expensive than this. Expecting Dominar 790 sooner.

You nailed the description of the D790. If you look at the spec sheet, it will disappoint you. Apart from the torque, I don't think there is much to write home about. But I have yet to see a single reviewer worth his salt who's not surprisingly impressed by this machine. I am really itching to ride one. I hope my helmet is good enough to contain my mind which will for sure be blown away!

Nice review. Usability is the key. That makes a lot of sense in Indian conditions. The bike has a really good pillion seat. I dont know about others but that makes a lot of sense to me. I have refrained from buying some bikes because of ridiculously sized pillion seats that are placed at angles that render them useless. If I am in the market for a bike from this segment I would plonk my money on this for sure.

I would choose the GSXS 750 for everything it has and the Traction Control it offers. Costs less too

@@divyeshpatel1539 true. But the thing is You are paying less also with gixer getting far more power and grunt, inline 4 K series engine. Value for Money proposition is outh of the charts. Without traction control z800 and initial z900 was selling very well. If you have access to race tracks, only there 9 lecel of traction control makes sense. If you need 9 levels on regualr road, you might buy a ninja 400 because throttle response will be like that only.
@@MikBan the reason why Duke 790 is inline 2 is because it focus more on power and performance than any other. Plus 790 is quite light compare to Gixxer so power to weight ratio is better of 790 than gixxer, also 750 looks more of a tourer than Naked sports.
@@divyeshpatel1539 Exactly. The duke is far more agile and possesses better handling characteristics. But Im not sure whether the weight advantage can cancel out the severe horsepower deficiency. The Gixxers 750 or the z900 these bikes have more grunt any day..
