For example, M20 Grade , Fe 415 grade of steel. Ld = (D x 0.87 x 415)/ (4 x 1.92). = 47 D (Tension Zone). Ld = (D x 0.87 x 415)/ (4 x 2.4). = 38 D. (Compression Zone). Note: Permissible Stress or design stress - (0.87 x fy).
