I noticed that the majority of Sawyers don't trim off the felling cut on a log. Is there a reason for that?? My thought that a straight end on a slab would be desired..
Hickory is the hardest species of wood to saw by far We always cut poplar as we are cutting hickory or ash it cleans the blade off and cuts much better not all gummed up
@@mcsawmill that’s one I have never sawed it doesn’t grow in our area I’m hoping someday I will get to saw one log lol you would have to ask someone in the southern states about Osage orange
@@mcsawmill thank you sir I appreciate that very much I’m trying to get my subscribers up. That’s crazy you have so many lol. I try to catch all your videos but I miss some here and there. I enjoy the big logs you saw very interesting
I always cut up hickory flitches for firewood and smoke wood. That’s when we don’t do slabs. Great job.
@@SwampSawyer Steve took the one scrap for his smoker.
@ awesome. I’ve got to pork butts on my smoker right now with some hickory. Smelling goooood.
Them are some heavy slabs. I like hickory but it’s is some hard wood. But it’s beautiful stuff. Good job there Sir.
@@MsdMakingSawDust I like heavy woodwork and furniture.
Nice Hickory George
@@deniscarter6613 thanks Denis, I still have the top of that tree left to saw.
Nice log, George!
@@williamprophett9148 some of those slabs are awesome.

Better to saw the ends after it's been dried that way you can get rid of some cracks too.
Good video, how long will you leave that dry till you sell the slabs?
@@doughine7562 I'll probably put it in the kiln I'm building sometime next summer.

Have you ever sawed Osage Orange? Just wondering how that compares to hickory.
btw, I love watching your sawmill flip the logs around, that's so fast!

@@mcsawmill another really tough one to saw is Ironwood. We only get a few logs a year because it doesn’t often grow big enough to get a log
