    Great! I would get yourself a 5 gallon bucket....put in shredded cardboard, paper, coffee, crushed eggshell and 3 handfulls of coco coir and a handful of garden soil and mix thoroughly. wet to the consistency of a wrung out sponge and let that sit for a few days. This in my experience makes for great bedding.

      Thank you so much for the tip! I've been thinking of getting a container to hold the bedding so that I don't have to shred the paper and cardboard each time. I could just do it in one sitting and then it's just ready to go. I probably could find something in the garage that I could keep it in.

      @@deewormsvermicomposting Yeah any container will work. I make bedding ahead of time so I always have bedding that is "curing". I use the fresh bedding each time I feed. I put a layer of fresh bedding down...then my frozen scraps and some grit and more fresh bedding on to of that.

    I also just received this urban worm bag and I love it!! I prepared it prior to receiving 1000 red wigglers. I also have a bin system and for me, I think the bag will work better. My husband built a roller system for me so when the bag gets too heavy, I can roll it as I see fit.

    Got two UWBs coming tomorrow and adding 6 1/2lbs of Canadian night crawlers each! Then bought two more worm factories and adding 5lbs each to those. I might have to adjust this and split some amongst my three other worm factories I've had for a while. All with amazing successes of trials and errors! Mites have always been annoying but I'm adding compost I started months ago to the UWBs with the night crawlers.

      @@deewormsvermicomposting to be perfectly honest w/you...I almost ordered 2 right away🤪. The reason being, I think I would like to consolidate all my bins into one system/container (being the bag system). One with my ENC's and one my Red Wiggler's. But, I only ordered 1 to start with. I also have a Worm Factory 360 going. The bins are clearly the "budget" way to go, but harvesting them takes time. They, the bins, were a great way to start to make sure I was really going to like doing this, and clearly I do. So, it was time to take the plunge. Anxious to get the bag system up and going! • @deewormsvermicomposting
      @deewormsvermicomposting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, are you referring to just using the bin for purely just compost? I'm sure you can mix it in with other types of bedding with no problems. The reason why I wanted this bag is the ease of harvesting the castings from the bottom, while the worms stay in the system. Then I don't have to spend a lot of time separating the worms from the castings.

I have been researching getting an Urban Worm Bag or a Vermi Bag. Just can't make the decision. Can't wait to watch your journey with this new system. Just a suggestion....

    If you had any liquid from your other bins, or some really wet bedding from them, you could give your bin a great start on a bacterial potluck! That’s why I like precomposting my bedding now, for weeks if possible. The worms seem to jump into and are much faster at finding the bacteria and break the material down at record speed. If you have some biochar or humachar, add that too, as it gives tons on surface area for bacteria grow. Fun tip: take a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses and add to a squirt bottle. Whenever I see the worms getting sluggish, a few sprays of that into the bin seems to perk them right up!
