    For those of you interested in Adam Kerrin - here he is on the Marginal Gains podcast - If you're interested in cutting through the crap of marketing and publicity and finding out how to genuinely get faster, you need this podcast in your life... Josh Poertner is a bonafide genius (put it this way, when Spartacus won Paris-Roubaix he'd worked out the starting pressure of his tyres so that by the time he hit the critical cobbles sectors the tire pressure losses would have him at the ideal pressure... you can see the maths in Sharpie on the tan walls of his tires in photos...) marginalgainspodcast.cc/adam-kerin-zero-friction.../

    Great video. The Insta360 view blows my mind every time!
    Is the TruTension stuff available on my side of the pond, by chance, or are you Brits keeping it for yourselves?

      It’s a great little camera for sure - thanks mate! Yep - Tru Tension is available out there (although I don’t think my discount code etc works there) - www.tru-tension.com/

    Nice video. I totally agree with you. I hear brand ambassador and want to run away but a good product is a good product. I'll have to try this lube.

    • @1stElement

      Do it mate (and thank you!) - can't argue with numbers when it's done this transparently and independently. Probably won't find me being a 'brand ambassador' for ketogenic energy flapjacks, therapeutic massage leggings or preswim skin hydrophobic creams any time soon...

    So, I washed my bike, applied the lube, left the bike in a shed for 2 weeks, came back, went on a 40km ride, came to the bike service to change my brakes, left the bike there, and got a message from them that my chain was extremely dry . Is this a not very professional service, or is the lube not as good as you say, or is there something wrong specifically with my bottle of lube?

    • @1stElement
      @1stElement  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi - well, to be honest that’s utterly impossible for me to answer! I don’t know how clean the chain was, how and how much lube you applied, what conditions you left your bike in for two weeks what the weather or road conditions are etc - but - the world leading independent expert in waxes and lubes rigorously tested it and found it performed excellently - and as a cyclist of 500-1000km a month in all weathers I agree with him…

    I’m riding MTB in southern Spain and have tried the TruTension lube… I’ve got to say, it does go very dry quite quickly, and forms a thick residue on the cassette and front/rear mech that’s and absolutely bitch to clean off. Same for MO dry lube and squirt, actually. Originally, I thought I was over applying it (probably was), then I figured I wasn’t shaking it up enough before applying it…. Every time, more buildup/residue.
    And, yes… I was thoroughly cleaning the chain and drivetrain before application.
    I’ve recently tried going to the complete opposite end of the scale and used 3-in-1 PTFE lube, but that attracts dust like crazy.
    This is getting boring/expensive now… some considered, positive feedback would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

      Which Trutension lube are you using? And when you say it dries out quickly - it’s supposed to - if it stayed as fluid it would attract dirt and dust to stick to it - which is a major issue with MO - have you looked at Adam Kerrins site? zerofrictioncycling.com.au/ - it really does answer all these questions (as an independent tester - far, far more knowledgable than me..!) - as for the very best solution then waxing is the very best option. Far easier to do than most believe - this is part three of a series I did on waxing chains (it’s worth watching parts 1 and 2 obvs…! th-cam.com/video/C_vmBC8X_yk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=g_Qt0TCJt4UgGJ8j

      @@1stElement, thanks for your reply. It’s the tungsten lube. I’m going to strip things down again and give it another go with the tungsten lube, I think. I enjoyed the vid, thanks again. 👍

    Awesome dude! Brands are more than just products aren't they, but it helps if the product is awesome :)

    • @1stElement
      @1stElement  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      100% - but a brand without a worthwhile product isn’t a brand at all - and some brands are amazing at marketing but can’t make good products, some make amazing products but are terrible at marketing... I know which brands products I would rather use but sadly we humans are so susceptible to good ad campaigns... And that’s why I stay away from this stuff usually - but when someone independently tests something (that I can’t test myself) then that’s different. I’ve basically used the same two Mapex drum kits for every tour, recording, video I’ve made in the last 20 years. I’ve swapped the snare drum out several times for brands that I don’t endorse to get the right sound BUT - I don’t hide that fact and Mapex wouldn’t expect me to. Cymbals, sticks - you name it - I endorse the products I use at a professional level through years of experience and daily professional use and I’ve used them for years - but we all know that a lot of the products that are endorsed by pros/brand ambassadors don’t get used. I know a very high profile drummer who was paid to play certain drums but rebadged vintage kits to look like that brand because they sounded so terrible... in the old days bike racers used to use custom Battaglin frames and get them resprayed and logo’d in other frame makers names - I see it all the time in my industry - I just never wanted to be part of it.

    • @TriathlonDan
      @TriathlonDan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1stElement yes I’d heard about the frames! That sort of stuff still goes on in cycling, plenty of non-sponsor wheels being used etc

    • @1stElement

      Yep - and so what does the consumers do - one of three things, I guess: buys into it tribalistically (is that a word..?!) and wanders into it blinkered to the fact that what they’re being told by their favourite athlete/chef/musician/make up artist is gospel truth, or they all the middle ground, knowing it goes on and cherry picking stuff, swayed by one piece of cool marketing that they want to buy into and cynical about the rest - perhaps they do quite a bit of research into the stuff the do buy but sometimes get caught up in amazing marketing...(I’d say this is where most of us sit) or they are just 100% cynical about everything they’re told and don’t believe anything at all ever...

    After you apply do you wipe the residual off after 5 min?

    • @1stElement
      @1stElement  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep - spins the cranks 30 times or so - let it soak for a bit and wipe off the excess - then (if I can) I try and leave it a good while before riding…

    Great video. Subtle dig at MO 🤣🤣🤣. I'm using wax and PTFE in s rice cooker at the moment

    • @1stElement
      @1stElement  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No comment at all - there are plenty of snake oil’s out there but you text them properly (as Adam does) and you see for yourself - the numbers don’t lie. Not all chain lines are created equal at all. Rice Cooker..?! Blimey - doesn’t that get too hot? I use a slow cooker - a rice cooker is a new one on me..!!

    • @bewster7
      @bewster7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1stElement I follow the instruction from Oz Cycles on TH-cam. Rice cooker was for the old blend of wax and parafin oil, new wax and PTFE needs to be on a lower temp. Did you still have your crystal meth pot - made me laugh that did
