Great reflections, I loved hearing it. This is one of my favorite books and I would argue as Steinbeck's masterpiece. I love the epic, sprawling scale of this book but with such specificity and detail to those big ideas and themes.
Great book and review! The movies based on the book never capture how evil the mother is. Just like the movies based on Lolita by Nabokov never capture how twisted and manipulative Humbert truly is in the novel. Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath is quite good, several songs have incorporated the character of Tom Joad - Springteen's Tom Joad comes to mind. I am currently reading The Man Without Qualities. I'm unsure if you have read that one, but it is thought-provoking; the writing and turns of phrase are some of the cleverest I have read, right up there with Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain, which is up there.
Thank you! Yes how evil was she? She was the one who made me gasp all the time. I’ve taken note of your recommendations and added them to my bookshelf www.goodreads.com/review/list/7228482?shelf=life-lessons-viewers-love&sort=date_added&order=d
Great great great video😊. I am so happy that you loved this book as much as I did. Have you read the Resurrection by Tolstoy? I think you would also like it (amazing characters, deep ideas to make you think... in other words I am sure you would enjoy it) Please let me know. 😊Marianne
Thank you for the recommendation. Yes I loved it so much. I was talking about it with my father today. I’ll pass this onto him now. It’s brilliant. I haven’t read Resurrection but I’ve added it to my list of books that people recommend here because it helps me in my searches when I’m out in libraries and book stores. www.goodreads.com/review/list/7228482?shelf=life-lessons-viewers-love&sort=date_added&order=d
@andyjones1899 ha!!! Let me know what you think! (Now was it you who mentioned to about The Green Dot - something way more light hearted? - if so, I read it yesterday. The day was grey and miserable so I spent the entire day reading it. I liked it because it was light and easy and I liked the tone of the protagonist! 🤣 ) Anyway very different to East of Eden but I needed a mind break. Let me know what you think of East of Eden. It was recommended by another viewer here so glad I decided to take the plunge and read it.
I read this book recently, after years of being intimated by it. Wow what a read. Truly one of the greats! ❤
Yeah I don’t know why I never read it sooner than I did. Lesson learned. It was fantastic.

Thank you!! Yeah I’d say that this book is now in one of my Top Ten ever read. 😊📚

Was Charles the real father of Aron and Caleb ?
The way I read it was that Caleb was the son of Charles whereas Aaron was Adam's. There's different interpretations I guess but it's how I read it.
@@LifeLessonsFromBooks According to me they're both Charles's sons since they're twins...
