Hard not to feel a little sad watching this vlog Baz. Rowan looked absolutely gutted. The Spitfire has so many stories to tell and listening to Mr. Davies you can tell that there are many more stories to tell. I can never tire of seeing the beauty of Dunbar Marina!
Hi Terry. Thank you so much for your kind comment. Oh, I could listen to Rob ( ex owner of the spitfre) stories for ages of good times gone by, now all sadly lost, but there only in memory 😞 Hope you have a great weekend. All the best. Baz.😉👍
A very nice tribute Barry.. Although I live many thousands of miles away from Dunbar, I have spent many hours as a commercial fisherman in another lifetime, and this tugged at my heartstrings. You have given her a fitting send off mate...well done.
Hi Bob. Yes, it's very sad indeed. But if we think back to what used to be, it's actually tragic what's happened to our fine industry 😞 All the very best. Baz.😉👍
Hi Danny. You're too, right, bud. Dunbar always had the spitfire since I was born. Unfortunately, that gives my age away too... Doh!🙈🤣🤣🤣🤣 All the very best, bud.😉👍
What a lovely poignant video Barry & Jeff. Such a sad end for this lovely lady to leave Dunbar, her home since she was built. I just hope and pray that her new owner cares for like the family did in Dunbar. God speed Spitfire 😔 Keith & Val x
Hi guy's. Thank you so much for this wonderful comment ( as always😍😁👌) I'm sure she'll be looked after in her twilight years, as she'll be halving her workload by going to one net.😁👌 You two have a wonderful weekend. All the very best. Baz.😉👍
gday mate a great tribute to a boat who has grassed dunbar harbour for 50 years but like the old saying time and tide wait for no man ,time has caught up with the spitfire lets hope she will be restored to her former glory and sail again for another 50 years
Good evening big man, sad to see the boat go just goes to show the industry coming to an end for the small fishermen. You keep going and stay my friend.
Hi John. Thank you so much for your kind comment. You are so right. The industry is dying off and is at the last stages for the inshore fleet, I think.😞 It's sad when I think back and remember how vibrant our industry used to be, all gone now, thanks to these crooks with suits.😡 Have a great weekend. All the best. Baz.😉👍
I think I remember you Harvey, you just loved yersel back then in the Golden stones and the Forester's 😅 I certainly agree a lovely tribute to the infamous SPITFIRE, Weatherhead bruvs built excellent boats at Port Seton and I watched many being launched. This old girl and many others are testiment to that. Thanks for the memories and to the Davies Families.
@@rha4374 These were the days. Loved the Stones and the Foresters....and the Eagle, and the Eden and the George and the Lothian and the Golf Ha. I do remember an old three piece suite sitting down the harbour. The early morning drinkers would be there....the Harbour Bar. The Jersey was a riot at times lol.
@harvey2280 Oh my goodness, that's going back a bit, Harvey 🤣🤣🤣 Yes, Dunbar was full of character and characters back then. It's now a shadow of its former self🙄🙈. All the best. Baz 😉👍
@@harvey2280 There certainly was plenty hostelries to visit, can you imagine when a load of teenagers as myself from p s crowded the Eden and poor old "Paul" kept forgetting to charge us, so the good guys we are always had a whip round to make sure he never short changed himself 😇 . We sadly lost one of our pals Raymond Rennie a fisherman early morning when he fell over pier besides the beautiful Margaret lifeboat. All you Dunbar folk were bloody marvelous and any problems were resolved fairly quickly. As Mr Barry B said it was full of character especially at Christmas we ALL went to the Kirk. Really I've always wanted to write a book about life then but didn't know where to start, Go on Harv I'm sure you could do it before we pop our clogs, Perhaps start with the "Bruntons " families!!! Just a thought 🐒
Sad times, but she will live on in your mind and heart. Another sign of the times we live in, money talks, big corporation money that is. No real place for the small man anymore. People like you need to survive, they are needed to keep this world a sane place. Great vid (but sad) thanks Barry.
Very True Henry. This industry has no support since the cod wars. I really do think the industry is on its last legs, and it's all thanks to those greedy politicians and their antics 🤬😡 Glad you enjoyed the vlog. All the best. Baz.😉👍
@@onemanandhisboat Barry we as a people are to blame as well, we put them in power, but then give them a free reign. We should be more like the french farmers or fishermen and tell the government when they are out of line. I live in Poland and recently the government tried to give farmers a bad time, but they went out and blocked roads, sprayed government buildings with manure set fire to stuff in the centre of town. It made things change for the better. The English (I am one of them) sit at the breakfast table with their tea and newspaper and go, “oh dear”! Then go off to work. We should hold the government more accountable. With the farmers the people here, joined them on the barricades, even though the roads were blocked, bought them food, gave them money, even I saw one guy painting there signs for them , he was just a shop worker. It is as much everyone’s fault as the government. Getting like you now……. RANT over hahaha. Stay safe mate, somehow I think you will find a way to survive. I really hope so.
A sad day indeed Barry, and what a tight little boat with a lovely colour scheme, I hope whoever gets her will keep her in good shape ready for retirement and possibly preservation. Excellent film Jeff I liked the water level shot as Spitfire entered the harbour at the end, how did you do that?
Thank you. I used previously unused drone shots of The Spitfire and interview with Robert Davies. I would like to take credit for the water level shot but that was Baz who got that. I was away working when the Spitfire left Dunbar. There are some stone steps there so it’s fairly easy to get down to the water level. I will have to get that shot for a future OMAHB video 😊
I know the feeling Barry it is sad that so many boats end up having such an important impact on people's lives and have to end up being either sold or scraped mine now as of next week about to meet the scrap yard I sadly was left with no other choice 😢😢
Oh no, Mathew! 😞 I'm so sorry to hear this sad news bud, my heart goes out to you, especially after everything you've been through with her. All the very best. Baz.😉👍
Hi Louis. That is a very true statement. It's never an easy decision to make, but once done, you have to see it through. There is nothing worse than your boat going out of the harbour, knowing it will never return in your command 😞 All the very best. Baz😉👍
So sad Barry , Im witnessing the second last family owned boat from Troon being decommissioned , A true sign of the times whereby the youngsters and inshore fleet were sold out by there own greed and consecutive governments.
Hi Jimmy. Sold out is the right words...and once it's gone, we can never get this industry back.😞 Decommissioning is such a horrible thing to do to any vessel, especially one with a long history. Some wonderful young craft were destroyed during the 90s culling. And now poor Ireland is going through the same crap as we did, by greedy politicians 🤬😡, my heart bleeds for this once great industry. 😭 All the best, Jimmy. Cheers Baz.😉👍
She'll be single net prawning when she's ready on the west coast Garry. This is great because all she's ever done is twin rig.🙈😬😬😬 All the best. Baz.😉👍
Hi Luke. Yes, the skipper has a new job in Pittenweem. I hope one day he'll save up for his own boat and carry on working from Dunbar😍💪😁👌 All the best. Baz.😉👍
Hi Neil That is true. However, she sold within a week of going up on Find a Fishing Boat, so something must have attracted buyers to her.😁👌 All the best. Baz.😉👍
If the vessel is uneconomical to operate out of Dunbar, how will it make anything for anyone at Stranraer ? It will be still needing repairs and be a money pit there as it has become at Dunbar. I dont know why anyone would want it.
Hi Jimmy. All boats are money pits. That's what boat stands for. Bust, out, another, thousand! And that's completely up to the new owners on how far they want to keep the boat viable. Apparently, there were a few like-minded folk after the vessel. All the best. Baz.😉👍
Hi Garry. Apparently, she will be going to single net prawning, which is halving the workload she's done all her life, so already that will be good for the boat.😁👌 All the best.😉👍
