Found kaiba through this random TH-cam recommendation, begun imagining a story in my head to go with this song only to realize the real story was infinitely more beautiful.

Just finished it in one night. This show is awesome. It's not perfect, but i loved every second of it.
+Terriccota Pie I sat through 6 episodes and was like "Time to be productive!" And 5 minutes into that I literally felt so guilty for leaving so I just watched it all.

As the Kaiba plant, people lived devouring their time without appreciating a single moment of their life, only thinking about power and a way to survive longer. In the eternity, the human being is sad and alone. That's why we need death. Otherwise we would transform into an old, sad and lonely being.

@@DarynLuna my humble opinion, in some perspective you can think human individual as simple as a vehicle for DNA replication, thus when this individual too busy to perceive surrounding environments for intelligent decision makings, i.e not appreciate a single moment of his life in @Neverwas's words, he literally ceased to own meaning of existence for DNA in biology terms, i.e this individual is depreciated from his group and death is his next stop.
Hence it's not death to the rescue, on the contrary, @Neverwas is actually gentle in this case, just because someone is old and lonely, he is preferred to die both sociologically and economically...
I'm not saying I'm on either side of mentioned ideas, but this is very straightforward to deduce and horrible...

Amin Rosli the art style is what appealed to me and got me to watch it. i really like it.
it’s especially reminiscent of astro boy, created by osamu tezuka, who’s pretty much the father of anime and manga
Kayla m yeah that’s cool, but considering anime art style in general is getting better and better, it’s really hard to get it to be known even close to half of the popularity of mainstream animes
Amin Rosli yeah I get that, a show with a style this unique isn’t going to be universally received. honestly, just personally, I’m not into anime as a whole and avoid most of it; I’m just a big fan of cartoons and all animation in general. I hate the common and mainstream anime style, it pulls me away, so a series like this is super refreshing!
but I agree, style and animation obviously improves. ngl it’s so neat to watch how the media form evolves and polishes over the years and advances in production, aesthetic, and quality!
Kayla m i didnt like (but didn’t hate) this anime the first time I watched this anime (3 weeks ago) but im gonna rewatch it soon coz i someone said that this is the type of anime that needs to be rewatch. But it’s still weird coz i almost still hear this song or Melody of Chroniko almost every day since I watched it until now. I just love this insert song, it so soothing, and aesthetic
What's really interesting about this song is that the lyrics are kind of a reverse Genesis narrative. Humans, fauna, flora, the land, the sky, and finally the day and night being swallowed by the tree.
Not sure how or even if this ties thematically to the anime, but it's interesting. It gives the song more of a "folk song" feel.
isnt the main entity in the series literally an all consuming tree? I don't remember but it's literally the plot

I felt sorry for Chroniko
All she want is help her family
She hadn't done anything wrong
but simply killed by a corrupt doctor
I hope Warp could save her since he has entire universe's memory
I know this is like, 2 years old, but it wasn't a corrupt Doctor. Chroniko's aunt knew that she wouldn't have her memories returned.

The Aunt did at the end remember something special about Chrono- how they had played that musical instrument together. Something that the other children hadn''t learned, or had no interest or talent for... 😢

"Kaiba/Warp/Kaiba plant are all the same basic being with the same basic desires although yes, it was about neiro and about saving the world, the main reason kaiba sacrificed the world's memories to defeat the tree was for himself. the tree was the Warp-ish part of himself that would consume everything out of loneliness, and the kaiba in the end was the one who knew better, understood the true value of memories (What are memories worth if you're alone?), and didn't have to be lonely anymore the ending battle was less about everything else than it was about kaiba defeating himself" - Tree Dragon

Oh wow, I didn't look at the lyrics to this song. It's obviously about Kaiba, the plant that eats memories, and how it became such a horrible beast through sorrow and solitude.

an amazing soundtrack for one of the most Amazing animes ever
Just realized this has a similar energy to the Final Hours theme from Majora's Mask... Real interesting. (Also, the instant after I realized that, I noticed the song had come up in the recommendations, so apparently youtube thinks so too)
Anyway, the Tree and Skull Kid seem to be very similar characters between the song and the game... both do similar things because they feel lonely-- they commit an act that would cause everyone and everything they know to disappear. I'm still about 3/4 through watching though (and taking my time with it) so there might be even more parallels with the show.

Me, I discovered this anime two days ago.
Kind of nicely encapsulates the mood of Kaiba. Serene, haunting and melancholy.
An anime more "cyberpunk" than Cyberpunk
exactly what i thought man, so similar, just if they had given more time to develop neiros and kaibas relationship, gave us a little more info. on what was happening, i think it wouldve been much better than cyberpunk
Thanks to RetroCrush I’ve been seeing vids on Kaiba recently. I think it’s starting to get some deserved attention. I’m hoping that if it does come back (one day) it’ll expand on improving the weakest points to truly make it perfect since the first half was so so good.

Yes, the first half being the first 6 episodes.
The ost is what I cherish the most in this anime. The music is unlike anything I have heard before.
This show is awesome, every part of it, but i dont understand the worlds or stuff but this anime stuffed with action,romance,drama and more. I wished this anime was having more episodes 😢

There is something very _The Nightmare Before Christmas_ about this one; sort of reminiscent of Sally’s song but more sad and beautiful as it tells a story. I know this upload was nearly 10 years ago but I’m just here to say that I loved this anime very much
Is this the song that plays in the water chase? Vanilla sacrifices himself to get Warp's chip to safety.
Edit: It is, I had to rewatch the sequence to make sure (I cried, again ) and yes this is just a slowed down version of the Melody of Chroniko. A double dose of gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, PAIN

Unpopular opinion the second half is as good as the first half of the anime
it just covers different stuff. first part sets up the world, second half brings major plot points together and brings it to a close. just coz its not exploring so much doesnt mean it isnt just as good, it was just serving a different purpose.

abloogywoogywoo Kinda though they rushed it in the last three episodes. They could've dropped more hints at the terrorist organization instead of revealing their motives in 1-2 episodes. Plus making Kaiba journey across the cosmos a little longer would've been great.
I loved the anime, but my only two disappointments are that it was only 12 episodes long, and the ending of the last episode was kind of left at an ambiguous note. Other than that, it was really fun to watch!
Even a thousand episodes wouldn't feel like enough, but I'm glad it ended where it did.

What made them choose an english song over a Japanese one when the anime was never dubbed for the west?
It was directed by masaaki yuusa and he has had the sound director add english songs in his anime before.
Kinda late, but whether it'll get a dub or not has absolutely no influence over an anime's musical choices. English has a very distinct sound, so the director probably decided english lyrics would fit the tone better, or some other reason. I'm not complaining either way, his betsure paid off.

@@OyVeey The hippocampus is more like the part of the brain that fetches, sorts and updates stuff between short and long term memory. Not a storage, it has more of a sorting and consolidation function in the memory section of the brain.

I mean, in my opinion, one of the best things about kaiba is the fact that you have some Idea of What's happening by just looking at a screenshot or short clip, but by watching the show your Idea is revealed to be incomplete or even completely wrong, but in a good way. It ties so much in with Kaiba's themes about outer appearence and such.
