Great video, as always! :) Did notice one trick that was missed, though it's quite an advanced trick which I at least call "Direction Priority Signaling for single track loops". Had to explain in text but in a situation where dual track can't be physically used, you can make passing loops and have most signals facing the direction you want trains passing faster on, and usualy hilly terrain, switch back or zig-zag routes, or super heavy cargo, single use lines really benifits from it where prioritizing trains going uphill or heavily loaded to keep their speed is better than downhill or empty trains returning.
7:50 I used to work on a Canadian railway. Hauling freight. Boy is it annoying when there is say an Amtrak coming in half hour, and we need to cross the mainline to get to the next delivery. Gotta sit and wait until it passes, because heaven forbid we take longer than 2 minutes to cross 😂
It is a tiny bit old video, but a tip for editing.. Section the video, in case some has basic knowledge in signals, perhaps from Transport Tycoon, and are looking to broaden the expertise in this game. But also if you missed vital information, it is easy to zoom back to where that bit you need is. I found it useful, but there is quite a lot to interpret and remember. So any criticism if there must be some, is perhaps to be more critical of what info is needed and what can be cut. It is hard to leave something out, since it is your creation but sometimes simple is easier to swallow
@@Hushey It was also only, because praise can be bad too.. It is good to have something from both sides to reflect on, without it being really negative or super positive. I built the Falmouth branch on transport fever 2 in my Cornish map but for some reason when I run 2 trains on it like irl the trains don't wait at the signals at Penryn where there's a brief bypass track and I'm not sure why
lovely video! but sorry a question: For the rail hierarchy, how and what do you consider a place to be a town, city, or capitol? Do you just choose? Is there stats of the place you consider before declaring it to be that particular type?
Hi halo thanks for your commemt! At the start of the game it is essential to choose a capitol. This could be either the biggest, best situated or best looking city, its up to you, as long as it dosent change all the way through the playthrough. By doing this you will grow cities in a more realistic manor which means your capitol will be huge and surrounding cities will be smaller the further out you go. Hope this helps explain and thanks for watching!
@@Hushey ah sorry then I'm confused. How does the hierarchy work? Commuter connects all named towns, then what differentiates the cross country lines from expresses?
@@papa_natto cross country covers the whole map barely stopping at 2-3 stops. Intercity stops at the biggest cities along the route and has the ability to use cross country and/or commuter track without effecting other services too much
Hello, me agian, I have a south cargo hub the has train moving good from the south to the central distribution and bringing cargo back. I have 1 line "cargo South hubCentral Dist." On that line I have trains that can carry all the different types of cargo to and from the hubs. ~ I have 35 trains, at 360 meters in length, on that line. and they are just not moving the cargo fast enough. My issue is that the train all sit queuing at the platforms waiting to get out back on the main line. The platforms are one way, enter from the north end and exit from the south end, to where the train loop back around to head north to the central hub. I need help building the exit track from the hubs and how to set the signals so the trains do not sit waiting for a free line. Once they are moving there is no traffic queue, the only queue is with them sitting at the platforms. Please please help.
I completely understand but i cannot go slower or retention drops off and the algorithm drops it. Sorry, feel free to slow down the video and or pause and rewind
Nah its okay to make fun of us in the United States about our trains, we all know its bad and WE ALL WANT BETTER CROSSCOUNTRY trains but we will never get it..........
The US is as big as the whole European continent. There's a reason we don't use trains. It's precisely because no one wants a cross country trip in a train.
European passenger lines are heavily subsidized by tax dollars. I don't want to pay for that. A large % of US rail is privately owned and so sticks to the highest profit use- freight (which the US is head and shoulders above Europe in shipping).
@@tylerschmidt2394 Only if you measure by weight. The freight railroads here are also crap by every other metric. But this peculiar American psychosis on taxes is laughable. A few bucks a year to exponentially increase every kind of economic opportunity across the board and the option to drop the ludicrous expenses of car ownership is an unqualified good deal, but the mere idea that those bucks might go to the government instead of oil tycoons and insurance companies makes a certain breed of American froth at the mouth.
@gonzoengineering4894 name calling and insults does a poor job in pushing your support of the nanny state. Go ahead and hand your own money over to fund it... Don't demand mine. Odd you don't put value on weight freight miles... What would you measure your delivery system success by?
Sorry tyler mate hes correct, US rail is arse. Requires billions of investment to catch up with the rest of the world but they wont do it because of the USAs historically anti communist ties (even though its not communist at all).
Could not follow virtually anything you were saying. You were talking about one thing while your cursor was flying around (like hand gestures or was preparing for the next part) totally confusing what it was you were talking about. No doubt there were some people who followed what you were saying from the start. But my guess would be is that most of those people already knew 99% of what you were talking about and therefore your your speed teaching method didn't throw then to badly. I on the other hand didn't learn a thing much less any thing useful. I appreciate very much that their are people like you who are willing to put in the time and effort to share your knowledge. But if you aren't effectively communicating that knowledge your effort is being wasted. Signaling is one of if not most difficult issues most people face in being able to run an efficient system and grow their network. But please slow down your delivery and be careful not to assume that everyone knows and understands the terminology. And when using a audio visual presentation making a lot of visual movements especially when those movements are slightly ahead of or behind the narrative creates confusion. Wish I could say I learned something anything that was useful as I an sure there was important information contained in there somewhere. Anyone who is watching your video Hope's to learn something. But none of them are going to be as comfortable with the topic as you are. And being comfortable with a topic means you really have to watch how fast you are imparting information, assuming that everyone is on the same page and know and u understand the terminology.
Sorry you had this issue micheal, feel free to slow the video down using youtubes playback speed feature or pausing the video when needed.
