I went this week for the first time and was extremely nervous just for them to tell me I had extremely healthy gums and teeth. No cavities or anything. I will be getting Invisalign’s next. Good luck on your dental journey!

Don't brush too hard , it's a tool you only want to use the tips of the brushes and oscillate ( gentle rotation or back forth) smallest amount of pressure, let the tips of brush do work.

Honestly, I just like the "fresh" feeling after using mouthwash. You get some of that with brushing/flossing but the mouthwash just makes it feel like you've really done some work... even if the mouthwash itself isn't the one doing it.

If you look at a ph chart, the majority of the on the shelf mouthwashes sold in stores are as bad as soda. It's really quite surprising to see how bad some of the products are that are "approved" by the ADA.

    • @komfykoala6083

Yeah a ton are acidic, but I know Carifree and Therabreath are pretty alkaline. Not only that, but a lot of them contain alcohol which causes dry mouth. And a lot of anti-bacterial mouthwashes have the ability to disrupt the oral microbiome balance as they kill BOTH bad and good bacteria. I would ditch the mouthwash altogether and just brush and floss, take an oral probiotic (promotes good bacteria) and chew xylitol gum (inhibits bad bacteria).

Also if the antiseptic one is acidic and you brush right after using it, you will erode your enamel, as the acid weakens the enamel. It takes quite a few minutes to restore the pH in your mouth and for your enamel to be back to normal. That's why you should not brush right after having orange juice or other acidic foods.

The 2 mouthwashes that I like the most are:
    1. Trisa Revital Sensitive - non-alcoholic, contains xylitol and fluoride
    2. Eludril protect - again xylitol and fluoride
They are perfect with mild taste that I use after every meal but not when I clean my teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste. I cannot floss my teeth, because I don't have spaces between the teeth, so I use fluid floss device (Philips Airfloss) and I only use alcohol based mouthwash for it when I use it during the day. If I use alcohol-based mouthwash before going to bad, I wake up with severe dry mouth.

@rie9823 - One can always wing it if they want. It's hard to just recommend shit, because these brands have a thousand different very similar mouthwashes, at slightly different price-points, and the video ideally needs to be applicable in the future, rather than being partially dated once new products come out.
Unless it's a video specifically dedicated to which mouthwash to buy, which she did mention her video on. For someone who is purely trying to figure out which one to buy, I don't think "ending the debate on mouthwash" is the video to click.
Then the thumbnail referencing teeth staining and mouthwash causing cavities.
Though, even in her video on which mouthwash to buy, I still don't think she really gave specific recommendations, because there's too much shit out there, so it's quicker and easier to just give someone the tools to figure out what they need in a product for their specific situation, and then they can pick whatever one that fits that knowledge, and the video stays relevant.
Checking the description is often a fast way to see what's up, though.
For me, I went with the purple Listerine Total Care one in the zero alcohol version. I think that's the most general, well-rounded, maybe most useful mouthwash in that brand, that avoids having alcohol.
She often uses an ACT one, and as long as it has fluoride and is anti-cavity, rather than anti-septic (generally), then I don't think she really gives much of a shit which mouthwash it is. She likes the red ACT one because she likes cinnamon lol.
Sorry I type so much. I just go on and on forever.

@@lizzy4827 I read the Medical journal study showing that Listerine cool mint (alcohol) did reduce gingivitis more than flossing. I'm not saying don't floss but string can't get to places that the antiseptic one can get to. The trick is to use it quickly then rinse it out with a non alcohol PH balanced one like ACT zero. Two studies showed that the antimicrobial action of Listerine Antiseptic mouthwash is at least as good as flossing in improving gingival health and plaque reduction, especially in hard to reach areas of the mouth.

I don't mean to contradict you but how is a 62 year old on social security supposed to decipher the ingredients of Listerine or Lavoris without a laboratory? On the other hand: my pediatrician once told me Listerine was as effective as soda pop! So I quit using Listerine: guess what? I became even lawyer and quit brushing my teeth. Guess what Whitney? The Japanese have determined that bad oral bacteria causes colon cancer! DONT KNOW IF YOU KNEW OR NOT. SO I BOUGHT A WATERPIK THE OTHER DAY AND NOW AM USING IT ONCE A DAY USUALY MORNINGS. So I pretty much permanently have texture on the gums above my front teeth. Sometimes one or two of the texture bumps will turn whitish but it is easily scraped off. My dentist told me to stop using any kind of mouthwash because it was killing the good bacteria and allowing yeast to grow. I did what he said and it hasn't helped at all. It doesn't look like thrush and it is only ever on the gums and not the tongue. Both my dentist and ENT have said it doesn't look like leukoplakia or anything, but it is still irritating to always have these little sand paper looking bumps above my front teeth. I am definitely team "leave the toothpaste on" but I would love to be able to incorporate mouthwash back in as well.

Whitney, I just got a root canal, it was painless but my bank account is feeling tremendous pain. 🤦‍♂️ I just found out that the earliest that I can get a crown is five weeks from now, is it ok to wait that long? By the way, the crown is also going to be super expensive. I live in NYC and the cost of dental work here is obscene.

    • @sayto_00
      @sayto_00 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Old comment but, you might've gotten scammed. Did you get a second/third dental opinions? If you did and all agreed it was necessary, then disgard what I'll say next.
Some dentists love to do the root canal then a crown to maximise the profits, and will likely attempt to do it again. So if you haven't already, seek the advise of one or two more dentists (youtube comment won't help since nobody has access to your mouth / xrays). Why two? Because the dental field is less regulated and there's less accountability than the medical field. Ideally dentists should be outside the network (they're less likely to lick each others boots and give you an honest answer).

If you have a naturally acidic mouth, you might want to do an oral microbiome test as you likely have an abundance of acid-producing bacteria in your mouth. That will address the root cause, usually by adding an oral probiotic and xylitol chewing gum to promote good bacteria and kill bad ones. But if you're looking for products, I know Carifree and Therabreath have alkaline mouthwashes.

How come some oral care products are shown to have serious disadvantages, like the ones you described associated with alcoholic mouthwashes, but they're still "ADA Accepted" or whatever? I know it's probably impossible to try and put Listerine out of business at this point, but if the ADA didn't endorse their alcoholic products, then maybe fewer people would buy them. I just know almost every average consumer, including myself, trusts that that seal is granted in good conscience with the science to back it up.

The theory goes that they cant metabolise the Xylitol and get energy from it but they treat it as sugar so they feed on it and as a consequence they die, so with enough consumption their population should go away with regular hygiene. Im also interested to know if Sorbitol can contribute to tooth decay, because I saw a study posted on the website of a company that produces Xylitol products that claims that Sorbitol can be digested by acid producing bacteria and many toothpastes contain the stuff!
