He can bounce his Kinetic Ray off things, and attack from undefendable angles, through his Spatial Awareness. While being immune to some types of energy blast. But he can go 1vs1 with the majority of Marvel Martial Arts experts, because his powers just make him completely unpredictable.

@@KintizenI read a X-Men book (X-Men: Dark Mirror, if I remember correctly), where an enemy mutant, whose wife was a civilian casualty in one of the X-Men fights, switched 4 of the X-Men (Scott, Jean, Logan, and Kurt) with mental patients. Scott and Logan hustled a pool game (they were in women’s bodies), and Scott won the game in the first round.
X-Men Movies never did him justice. He is a supreme strategist and tactician.

I believe he had a bad head injury as a child that messed up his ability to control his power. And yes, the energy comes from an alien dimension but just from his eyes. Although his entire body is immune to his powers and similar types of energy(like his brother's)
I think there's one tv series where he's able to temporarily fix it and blast at will.
His brothers don't use the same type of energy he does it seems like it's a black Tom and banshee thing with him and alex

And strangely enough the machine turned both brothers hair white and they looked far older than being in their teens, even stranger still was that towards the end of the episode the brothers used a lot of their power to destroy a falling Meteorite or something and reverted back to their natural forms (hair color returned, they weren't as buff, and their powers became difficult to control again)
Makes you wonder if he had full control of his powers, if he would be able to create portals almost anywhere, blasting from any angle at any point in any given space that he can see.

No his extent of control was him opening the portals in his eyes or shutting them off, but a head injury left them permanently switched on

It was actually a combination of brain damage and psychological trauma. But, he temporarily gained control after he got therapy. Although, there's been quite a few changes to his story since then.

Wolverine is essentially the main character of every single X-Men film besides First Class and Apocalypse, and that's just because he's not even really in those movies aside from cameos (can't speak on Dark Phoenix as I never saw it). And and then he also had 3 solo films.
He was one of the most brilliant casting decisions ever but the whole fucking franchise did not need to revolve so heavily around him, especially when the biggest strength of the X-Men as a concept is its huge cast of great characters
I loved James Marsden in the movies. Shame he got pushed to the side but the casting is perfect because Marsden usually does too.

I miss the days when Marvel mentioned that Cyclops' body absorbs solar energy to convert it into his optic blast. This was also the reason he has no power in the sewers after days of non-exposure to sunlight. The X-Men animated series also adapted this.
I was going to ask how they explained that in the past he used to run out of energy to make the blasts. I guess that just got retconned.
The Sun absobtion thing was retconned into becoming the source of the energy his bodies use to create the psyonic energy to open his body as a gate to the so called "punch dimension". Weird heh?

He is the most underestimated Marvel character. He was my low-key favorite.
Got the head injury from an accident. The Summers family were flying over Alaska, the Shi'ar empire shows up, shoots the plane. Dad and mom (who was pregnant at the time) push Scott and Alex out with the only parachute, parents and soon to be born Gabriel are presumed dead, but actually taken by the Shi'ar.
Scott hits his head on the way down and is in a coma for a while, getting separated from Alex and thus losing the ability to have an "off-switch" for his powers. Thank you, X-Men encyclopedia from my middle school library.

I thought Vulcan was originally half S'hiar. Katherine Summers was taken by D'ken and ultimately she didn't survive the birth. Which is why Corsair hates the S'hiar so much, with the exception of Lilandra. Though it took him some time to accept her as a friend.
Too bad we never saw the Starjammers cross paths with the Guardians of the Galaxy in the MCU.

People also forget that he can absorb energy. Cyclops is the best.
That revelation makes his powers much more special and enigmatic. Cyclops would be so OP if he could use portal attacks like Yago from Wakfu or he can bend and shape his lasers to his whims like Darkseid from DC. If Scott honed it to it's full potential, he could attack from all directions and ranges with an insane amount of power behind it. He could easily attain the title of "one-man army".
He actually can bend and shape his beams exactly like omega beams. He did so to avoid hitting a bird once.

It sucks that they usually have him turn evil in the comics, I always saw Cyclops as infallible like Captain America. I want a Cyclops movie. Disney is probly gonna hurry X-Men into the MCU when what they should do is give each character a stand alone film first, so X-Men can have a similar impact as avengers had, same with the fantastic 4.
Imo that's why most of the fantastic 4 movies fell flat. Start with a Ben Grimm film, show his family life and the death of his brother and how he met Reed a kid so smart that he's basically high functioning autistic, end it when he accidentally makes Doom's machine backfire, causing him facial scares. Then the next film should focus on Doom and finally go into his backstory and about how he wants to dive into hell to save his mother. Then a Storm movie for human torch and invisilady. THEN you have a fantastic 4 movie where they ACTUALLY get their powers and follow the Reed Richards story and we see how he's been pulling the strings throughout the films to bring the team together and gives us the version of Reed that can take down Galactus. End credits scene has him discover the council of Reeds

Cyclops is one of the best leaders in comic book history. When I was a kid I thought he shot fire from his eyes. He's 90s uniform though is cool 🔥
don't beat yourself up over this considering it took like 6 year after they changed it to kinetic force for writers to finally stop drawing flames on things he shoots, specifically the fight in astonishing x-men where he makes wolverine look like ghost rider.

The blasts hit with force like the energy was solid, with some exceptions. Alex Summers, his brother, is immune from the blasts, and Mr. Sinister was once disintegrated by the blasts during Inferno. The energy is nothing like lasers or heat beams, and the only way they can burn anything is by moving a target so fast that friction ignited it…which isn’t likely in most cases.
@@russellharrell2747 there is no wtf about it, they never explained his power to be anything other than energy beams or energy rays and they always referred to him collecting solar power to use as energy but that ended in 2006 were they actually had tony stark lay out what his power was during civil war. then in like 2009 they finally showed a dimension of pure kinetic force in america the america chavez comic. to be fair flames only started popping up 1990-2010 and the kinetic force lines up with the fact that everytime he shots a tree or wooden building there are never flames after in the first 280ish x-men comics.

Cyclops is a very very powerful being and one of my favourites🔥🔥🔥
Using his optic blasts, he literally tortured a guy with an acupuncture needle. Put the needle in place, then focused the beam onto it, remember it’s pure concussive force, no heat. So he just kept slowly ramping up the intensity until that lil needle was vibrating violently with the tip still directly on the guys nerve. Direct nerve stimulation that doesn’t stop increasing in intensity, it only get more and more potent. It was a dark time in comics
I've heard someone say that his blasts aren't just purely kinetic. They also produce friction which causes them to burn things. Whats your take on the matter?
@@bodivanbodivan3668 they do in fact generate friction, and I would say it depends on how he applies his blasts in order to generate the friction. For example, he took his visor off and completely erased half of a sentinel and much of the lawn it was standing on when he got pissed off and stopped caring about collateral. I’m that instance, he let out his blasts with immense force and went full speed, and it left both the sentinel and the grounds charred and on fire. It was the speed and intensity at which he releases the beams that will dictate just how much frictional heat he can/will generate. His regular basic eye blast attack wouldn’t generate a great deal of heat because it is a very measured attack. We only ever seen the results of frictional heat from his blasts when he is really amping up his output. So yeah he can definitely catch things on fire through generating friction but it is not a regular thing due to how careful he is with his output. If he didn’t measure carefully he wouldn’t be able to bounce the beams off objects without causing serious damage to said objects through concussive force and fractionally generated heat

The true power reveal of Cyclops was in Ultimate X-Men, when Wolverine challenged him to a fight. Cyke took one look, leveled Wolvie with one shot, and fired him from the team. If he'd had a mic, he'd have dropped it! 😁
And that was after Wolverine dropped him off of a plane and left him to die in the Savage Land.
He survived for what may have been 30 days by drinking dew and eating bugs until he was found by Magneto's men.

That is more of a testament to your lack of creativity and comprehension of fiction than anything other.
Also, it is not just his eyes. He simple does eye laser most of the time, because it eliminated the need to aim, unlike with a hand-held weapon.
Same with Superman. Superman can shoot energy from any part of his body, not just the eyes. He can even blow up as a nuke, if he chooses to release energy from all of his vectors at once.
Is he... using traffic lights as portals too?
One time Emma turned into her crystal form and Cyclops fired his blast at her to refract millions of blasts into an enclosed area of enemies.

I remember reading X-Men in the late 80's through the late 90's. One of the things I always thought was cool was how Cyclops' brother Havok could use his power to super charge Cyclops' optic blast. I remember at the end of the inferno saga, Havok pretended to be under the control of Mr Sinister and started shooting Cyclops (who was shackled at the time) with his blasts. Cyclops mentioned that the brothers can't harm each other with their powers and that, despite it stinging pretty badly, Havoks powers couldn't do any serious damage to him and it only makes him stronger. Because of this, at the moment Sinister was trying kiss Jean Grey, due to Havok super charging Cyclops, he was able to break free of the shackles and literally blast Sinister to pieces.
Cyclops is a perfect example of a glass canon. Extremely powerful but not very durable.
I guess a glass canon make sense in that high offense low defense but I'm thinking of a better real-world analogy like a fire hose in that when left unchecked will go into a fury.

Nobody does it, because it is not feasible and would not be fun to know the outcome of the match before the punch even lands…… but as far as physics are concerned, that is what happens. All in real life obey physics.
Likewise, in order to have a story that makes any semblance of coherency, you have to CLEARLY define the powers of the characters. Otherwise it is “haha, magic ice man go”, “haha, magic beam guy go”…….

Growing up, I liked Cyclops more then any other x men’s. Reason is him being the leader to all missions.
The “heat” comes from that kinetic energy running against every particle and molecule in its path, thus creating thermodynamic heat potential to kinetic energy like thousands of super punches coming every millisecond; if he has a Mysterio style fishbowl ruby quartz helmet visor hybrid, and just let loose fully, he could level any city in minutes

If you place a ball on a table perfectly still, would its time be frozen? It has 0 kinetic energy, only potential one (relative to Earth, relative to solar system, etc etc etc).

And if you are concerned about axis of relativity, let’s assume the ball is in void of space now, outside any interference… it’s time would still move, even if it does not

Supposedly, he did a lot of experimentation with the Summers family's DNA and it created a vulnerability to Cyclops' powers that bypass his healing factor. To this day it hasn't been fully explained. More of a dramatic writing element that the one person Sinister is obsessed with can hurt him the most.

Ruby quartz material.
The material the lens is made of (Ruby Quartz) apparently neutralizes the energy his eyes project. So as long as he wears the shades or visor the beams hitting the lenses are effectively moot so he can have his eyes open, thus see, without blasting the shit out of everything.

If I recall correctly, Scott Summers and his brother marginally escaped a plane explosion. Due to some blunt force to the back of his head disconnecting his control over the power, thus the need for the ruby lense. It also does help in controlling power, as well as size.dont quote me. Thus, was in the 90s. They change this up alllll the time.
Guy was like a Cyber Punk X-Men to me when I was a kid. They made him a lame crybaby for a woman in the movies.

Back in my day the eye beams came form cosmic rays and in one issue Cyclops kept his eyes open so long he ran out of juice and his eyes were normal for a short time.

His optic blasts are concussive, not heat rays like Superman. But, when his blasts go through something dense the friction involved as it burrows through that matter causes tremendous heat. What is so awesome about Scott's powers is on full strength he could literally punch a whole through a planet and he can control the width of the beam. So of he wanted he could blast apart something the size of the moon or Earth
Cyclops is massively underated in the movies.
He is a good fighter and leader, strategist.
Imagine having an amazing fighting ability but you can also fire extremely powerful beams of energy out of your eyes.
That makes him very formidable in combat
