Moved to Consett as a newly married couple. Lived down Delves Lane in the early 70's Steel works open, lots of pits still open. Amazed first time it snowed as the snow turned orange from the rust in the air from the steel making process. Really enjoyed my 4 or so years living there. Cheers.

I was born in Shotley Bridge Hospital in 1969 and i have/had a lot of family around delves lane. My nana Margate Barrett lived on Oakdale road. i was baptised at St Patrick's Church. Thank you for sharing as I haven't been back for 20 years.

Changed a little since I was brought up there in the sixties but some things are exactly the same.

Not been to Consett at all since I've been oop norf ... so thanks for the walk-about 👌 Those houses in the back streets are Miner's Cottages (lots of mines up here - all closed now) and are your original "Two Up/Two Down" literally two rooms downstairs - living room and kitchen-diner, with two bedrooms upstairs. The 'lavvy' was in the rear yard, up at the end wall so you could not smell it !! In the 1980s or thereabouts lots of houses had extensions built at the rear, to make for a kitchen, and a bathroom. Some people would split a bedroom upstairs and put the bathroom upstairs.
    I'll have to go there one day . . . 😏

Consent has improved greatly Everything was covered in orange dust years ago. Lots of new shops up the top now. We sometimes have a run through and go to Company Row for a breakfast. Last time was a few weeks ago but they were closed for some renovations or something. Mind you it’s always ruddy freezing up there in the winter. ❄️❄️☃️😂

The houses with the 2 doors are actually flats. My partner is from Consett.

Always wondered what was at Consett. Ex Barnsley full back and captain from the 80s, joe Joyce was from there. Tenuous I know, but no less a link 😂
