Placing an entire deck in the spell/trap zone, eh? Man, I can't wait to see what kind of ruling headaches that creates. Like "do they technically count as Xyz materials", "do I still draw from it" and "what the fuck happens if it gets MST'd".
It'd be interesting if the crystal beasts had been made with effects for when they were in the spell/trap zone, and were prototypes of pendulum monsters.
This archetype is protected by nostalgia and nothing more. More than half the deck has nothing going for it, the crystals fill up unnecessary space, their boss monster is stup- *ruby carbuncle jumps on my lap* ....Nevermind.
One change I'd like to see is making Crystal Vanguard and Crystal Protector be treated as Crystal Beast monsters while face-up on the field. This'll give them a lot more use in the new format as they'll effectively function as 2 s/t zone crystals. Also, nostalgia aside, Crystal Beasts have always been my favorite-looking cards. They're just incredibly pleasing to the eye.
Crystal Tribrigade and Crystal Pendulum are utterly absurd. Massive pluses, Rainbow Dragon easily summonable, and the combination of Rainbow Ruins' negates, the newly announced Crystal Miracle, Apollousa and Revolt or Time Pendulumgraph is lethal against almost everything else.

Here's ideas on boosting crappy crystal beast monsters: Topaz tiger: while in the spell and trap zone "crystal beast monsters" and rainbow dragon monsters" gain 400 attack and defense. Amethyst cat: while in the spell and trap zone "crystal beast monsters" and rainbow dragon monsters" are unaffected by opponents trap cards. Cobalt eagle: while in the spell and trap zone if you control a "crystal beast monster" or rainbow dragon monster" instead of conducting your normal draw you can add "crystal" spell or trap from your deck to your hand. Emerald tortoise: while in the spell and trap zone if you control a "crystal beast monster" or rainbow dragon monster" during either players turn if your opponent activates a spell card you can send this card to the graveyard to negate and destroy it. Amber elephant: while in the spell and trap zone once per turn: if a "crystal beast monster" inflicts battle damage you can add one "crystal beast monster" to your spell and trap zone from your graveyard.
I personally use The Seal of Orichalcos in my Crystal Beast deck. The larger ones become better beatsticks and protects the smaller ones. Only downside is that the fusions are unusable with it.
Reminds me. I'm still waiting for Konami to print the rest of the Orichalcos cards. Hopefully they'll be in the villain based Legendary Duelists. Legacy of the Villains.
It also helps that the Crystal Beasts placing themselves on the backrow makes it look like you are using the anime version of the card. Funnily enough, Rainbow Ruins sort-of has all the anime effects of Orichalcos, minus the Soul thing (altough since defeating anyone within this deck tends to break their spirit and will to live, you can argue it even has that effect as well)

1:41 It just hit me: the seven Crystal Beasts monsters are actually the colors of the rainbow. Ruby is red, Amber is orange, Topaz is yellow, Turquoise is green, Sapphire is blue, Cobalt is indigo, and Amethyst is violet aka R.O.Y.G.B.I.V. I know, I know, the boss monster is literally Rainbow Dragon, how did I not notice, but in my defense, this archetype is primarily themed around gems and crystals, and with all the gems, minerals, and crystal on 90% of cards, I hope I can be forgiven for not paying too much attention to the colors of the individual monsters.

It's a shame that the “big bear”archetype never receive any further supports beyond Over The Rainbow，which is a card made only to indicate a lore union between “crystal beasts” and “big bears”. Does this make Over the Rainbow the spell card equivalent of Flamevell Magician？
Funny how the GX dub called Sapphire Pegasus the leader of the Crystal Beasts. Which makes him being the best of the 7 all the more amusing. Also Tortoise somehow got WORSE in Duel Links because they couldn't incorporate his unique effect. So he's just a 2K Level 3 wall that goes into the backrow after being destroyed.
I am still holding out hope for a full retrain of them. Maybe include the effect of always being treated as that monster even in the deck. Pegasus and Carbuncle can largely stay as they are but maybe eagle could get the effect of returning things to the hand and granting an additional normal summon. Turtle might negate spell/trap cards in exchange for switching his battle position. Cat might give you a search or graveyard recovery when successfully attacking (also not lose attack while doing so) tiger they could increase the boost from 400 to 1000 and give him effect immunity while attacking. Mammoth they could add that if you have 2 the opponent can't attack and that mammoth is unaffected by all the opponent's card effects that don't destroy it.
I think konami should make more Superlight Vikings. Like Superlight Viking Win Recker. A normal trap that says "You win the match. You can only activate this card during your opponents main phase 3."
Too broken. Many new cards allow you to do a Main Phase 3 and reset the summon and once per turn restrictions to combat the extreme amount of instakill handtraps that were in the turn designed to stop the constant ZTKs.
With the recent Structure Deck and the Advanced Crystal Beast finally getting printed, wouldn't be surprised if the next Archetype Archive sequel would be this.
In the defence of that trap letting your opponent draw when you play ancient city, that was a format where you could only have one field spell between the two of you
if the crystal beasts had effects while in the backrow as cont spells, like a kind of prototype pendulum archetype, they'd have been a lot more interesting; something of a missed opportunity
seeing as how often the TCG translations backfire on their ass later down the line, i wonder when they wil regret their shitty pun card names like toadally awesome, the grass looks greener, bunny blast etc
I dunno man, Toadally is still a toad monster like half the other support non-frog frog support they get. On a more general level they have gotten better about dealing with it over the years. If any further crystal beast support comes over i fully expect them to just say ultimate crystal god monster and once that happens they reprint rainbow dragon with the text (this is always treated as an ultimate crystal god), Like summoned skull saying it is treated as an archfiend. Also just plain old reprinting the issue away like with harpie's brother becoming sonic warrior or whatever it was called
Now I'm really wishing for Ikai no Kyokushiryū (Which is the OCG version of fucking Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon) to get a lot of support cards with very long texts, or even better, to have its own archetype.
I still have nightmares about this archetype because when I got back into the game I just had my shitty Warrior equip beat down deck (featuring OG BLS and the Gaia Synchro) and my buddy ran crystal beasts. He would whoop me good and once Rainbow Ruins got going I was fucked. Even to this day when I play good decks like Kozmo or Paleofrogs, Crystal Beasts still make me sweat

I dunno if you read comments on old videos but, i ran crystal beast in high school. I didn't have every spell/trap but i had one copy of rainbow dragon and gravity. In my school i was ranked as the 3rd strongest from the nuking and focusing on crystal swarming. Now we weren't pros and played the game like a game instead of a 30 chain combo for the first turn. To me, crystal beast and monarchs are my favorite. They both made me a semi-good player and helped me learn that pro playing isn't fun. Playing that game without figuring out how to summon 2 blue eyes or making 3 different link summons.
This video let your personality really SHINE through. I could really watch but I couldn't stop GLISTENING to the alluring sound of a voice. I heavily played crystal beasts before and I can say for a fact they can be force to be reckoned with even without the newer support the only thing I would change was bump power to a yellow everything else is on point
I have a blasted beater decks which rely on killing monsters to operate at peak efficiency, and let me tell you that the fact most of the time they will be sent to the spell zone hard counters my deck. Ticked me off to no end in the recent Duel Links event.
ClayXros There are two monsters that really messes up Crystal Beasts Deck and that is Arkbrave Dragon if summoned from the graveyard as Crystal Beasts are treated as Spell cards in the trap zone and Arkbrave if Summoned from the graveyard banishes all face up spells and traps on your opponents side of the field and it gains a 200 attack boost for all cards banished by its effect and Dragon Spirit of White which banishes traps of spells when summoned.
Despite only having played the game for a few years having bought two starter decks, Sorrcerers Aliance and some vampire deck, and watching the original anime series religiously, I love your content. You have witty humor combined with memes, keeping both in balance. I actually considered started play the game again, I visited my local game shop and then I left running and screaming once I remember how expensive it can get and i saw two guys play half their decks in 3 turns in 10 seconds. I'll keep watching you though, you are funny.
I wonder if Konami ever realizes that an archetypal xyz and a link monsters that put their materials in the s&t zone is a very doable solution that would work wonders for this archetype (and easily bring money in their pockets).

Cyber Dragon and Crystal Beast -both came out in the GX Erra -both have special mechanics -both receive new support every so often + Cyber Dragons Are now an engine that bring out Big Ass fusions or super strong rank 5’d + Crystal Beast....they got Pendulums (that sucks) and a Fusion

If I had one wish... No, if I could rub both Mystic Lamp and Ancient Lamp to get a super wish granted pertaining to Yu-Gi-Oh, I'd go back in time and just calmly tell the localization team that every change and attempt at being humorous with their name changes have had a disastrous effect on card rulings and card text length.
Ive never been able to figure out how Crystal Beasts really worked, so this is at least helpful in figuring that gem-fueled mess out. But you said you wanted archetype suggestions, so here are a couple of my personal favorites. Red-Eyes, and my all-time favorite, Skull Servent/Wight. The Skeletons are just a silly freakin deck, and its great.

Awesome Archetype Archive for Crystal Beasts Rata! When Konami release the new Crystal Beast support, they seriously need to fix the localization problem with Rainbow Dragon. When they are released, I'm totally going to build the deck again this time with the highest rarity for the cards I can get. This is one of the few decks I want in max rarity.

Kind of wish they made some new main deck Crystal Beasts, over the years, with better effects that followed the play style of being sent to the spell/trap zone upon destruction effect. Additionally, it would be cool if there was some kind of crystal beast contact fusion that required you to shuffle 3 face up crystal beast monsters (from either the monster zone or the spell/trap zone) to the deck, to bring out. This way, rainbow dragon wouldn't be power creeped as how dark paladin wouldn't be power creeped, because with new cards will come more opportunities to use it.
Possible Archtype Archive coverage- Synchrons. The living definition of Synchro Summoning, and even with the new Master Rule, aren't as screwed over by it as other older archetypes.

Ok, hear me out here. What about doing a "Legacy of the Worthless: Where are they now?" You look at archetypes you already reviewed, and see if their newer support or link summoning has lowered or increased their grades.

I dunno man, Toadally is still a toad monster like half the other support non-frog frog support they get. On a more general level they have gotten better about dealing with it over the years. If any further crystal beast support comes over i fully expect them to just say ultimate crystal god monster and once that happens they reprint rainbow dragon with the text (this is always treated as an ultimate crystal god), Like summoned skull saying it is treated as an archfiend. Also just plain old reprinting the issue away like with harpie's brother becoming sonic warrior or whatever it was called
the original was something like One-san.
Now I'm really wishing for Ikai no Kyokushiryū (Which is the OCG version of fucking Interplanetarypurplythorny Dragon) to get a lot of support cards with very long texts, or even better, to have its own archetype.

I still have nightmares about this archetype because when I got back into the game I just had my shitty Warrior equip beat down deck (featuring OG BLS and the Gaia Synchro) and my buddy ran crystal beasts. He would whoop me good and once Rainbow Ruins got going I was fucked. Even to this day when I play good decks like Kozmo or Paleofrogs, Crystal Beasts still make me sweat

Well Yugioh uses EVERYTHING for designs you could draw anything and they could use it even to cameo within the artwork
YuGiOh already made Archetypes mixing:
- Sentai robots and office appliances

- Random animals and airplanes
- Kids toys and high-speed racing
- Evil demons and freaking _kitchen utensils_
Don't forget:

I dunno if you read comments on old videos but, i ran crystal beast in high school. I didn't have every spell/trap but i had one copy of rainbow dragon and gravity. In my school i was ranked as the 3rd strongest from the nuking and focusing on crystal swarming. Now we weren't pros and played the game like a game instead of a 30 chain combo for the first turn. To me, crystal beast and monarchs are my favorite. They both made me a semi-good player and helped me learn that pro playing isn't fun. Playing that game without figuring out how to summon 2 blue eyes or making 3 different link summons.

I heavily played crystal beasts before and I can say for a fact they can be force to be reckoned with even without the newer support the only thing I would change was bump power to a yellow everything else is on point
I have a blasted beater decks which rely on killing monsters to operate at peak efficiency, and let me tell you that the fact most of the time they will be sent to the spell zone hard counters my deck. Ticked me off to no end in the recent Duel Links event.
ClayXros There are two monsters that really messes up Crystal Beasts Deck and that is Arkbrave Dragon if summoned from the graveyard as Crystal Beasts are treated as Spell cards in the trap zone and Arkbrave if Summoned from the graveyard banishes all face up spells and traps on your opponents side of the field and it gains a 200 attack boost for all cards banished by its effect and Dragon Spirit of White which banishes traps of spells when summoned.
Despite only having played the game for a few years having bought two starter decks, Sorrcerers Aliance and some vampire deck, and watching the original anime series religiously, I love your content. You have witty humor combined with memes, keeping both in balance. I actually considered started play the game again, I visited my local game shop and then I left running and screaming once I remember how expensive it can get and i saw two guys play half their decks in 3 turns in 10 seconds. I'll keep watching you though, you are funny.

I wonder if Konami ever realizes that an archetypal xyz and a link monsters that put their materials in the s&t zone is a very doable solution that would work wonders for this archetype (and easily bring money in their pockets).

Ive never been able to figure out how Crystal Beasts really worked, so this is at least helpful in figuring that gem-fueled mess out.
But you said you wanted archetype suggestions, so here are a couple of my personal favorites. Red-Eyes, and my all-time favorite, Skull Servent/Wight. The Skeletons are just a silly freakin deck, and its great.

Awesome Archetype Archive for Crystal Beasts Rata! When Konami release the new Crystal Beast support, they seriously need to fix the localization problem with Rainbow Dragon. When they are released, I'm totally going to build the deck again this time with the highest rarity for the cards I can get. This is one of the few decks I want in max rarity.

Kind of wish they made some new main deck Crystal Beasts, over the years, with better effects that followed the play style of being sent to the spell/trap zone upon destruction effect.
Additionally, it would be cool if there was some kind of crystal beast contact fusion that required you to shuffle 3 face up crystal beast monsters (from either the monster zone or the spell/trap zone) to the deck, to bring out.
This way, rainbow dragon wouldn't be power creeped as how dark paladin wouldn't be power creeped, because with new cards will come more opportunities to use it.
... Sapphire Pegasus isn't a winged-beast? I never realized this because it seemed so obvious.
+ULGROTHA Also Aligator's Sword is a Beast and not a Beast-Warrior.
Possible Archtype Archive coverage- Synchrons. The living definition of Synchro Summoning, and even with the new Master Rule, aren't as screwed over by it as other older archetypes.
