I just want to say thank you for posting your video. We have a 2012 hybrid Sonata that's been to 4 different dealerships that never solved the problem. They replaced the hybrid battery, 2 12v batteries, and ran diagnostics with no clear results but wanted to replace the transmission that was replaced 30,000 miles ago under the previous owner. So, after watching your video we decided to risk the $75 for the fuse and it worked!! We didn't even have to jump-start it, it cranked right up, the ready light came on, and my husband drove it around for several hours. After about 35 miles the engine light turned off by itself. I'm almost sure that fuse was the problem all along and it never even needed a new hybrid battery. I'm going to write to Hyundai, who, by the way, was of no help at all. I know it won't do any good, but it will make me feel better.
Well, it worked for a little while and then it all happened again. Found a good hybrid tech at a different dealership who changed out the power relay and that didn't work. The 12v battery won't charge while driving and the factory was no help at all, just said to replace the transmission. Seriously? It could be the DC inverted inside the HPCU but I'm not going to spend $5k on the off chance it might fix it given we've already got almost $10k on an 11 year old car. So we'll try to sell it as is and just take the loss and be done with the damn thing!

If you open the back cover in the trunk, you will be able to pull the whole fuse assembly out. Once you have it out, you can pop the cover off & you will see two star / Phillips screw bits which you can take out, then take out the fuse. Put the new one back in & you’re good to go.

Of course it's Sunday and dealership in las Vegas is closed. Any ideas are welcome! The beeping is maddening but we're grateful it's running. 400 miles to get home. God willing.
That is not a good feeling! It sounds like it’s either the fuse or the power relay going bad! It sure would be nice yo be able to find a fuse to grab just in case, too bad the dealerships are closed!

My dash was lit up like a Christmas tree with many lights on. I can’t guarantee a new 150 amp fuse will fix yours, but it’s a $63 chance that could fix it. Yours does sound like what mine did.
I experience the same sign , but it says check break and don’t drive . I stopped the car and switch it off. After 5 minutes when I restart the engine, the car was normal and I drove the car to home . I am experiencing this almost every week . Can someone help me to identify the problem ?
Dead post but mine did almost the same thing. I was driving car kinda lost power. Then all my lights freaked out. Now I think my 12v battery is dead too. I tried the mega fuse no avail.
That sucks. You can try your 12V battery, they make load testers for those that tell you if it’s good or not(something more than a multimeter). If it’s not that, I would check the hybrid battery power control module. www.ebay.com/itm/256057391946?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=256057391946&targetid=1645685073288&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=1028087&poi=&campaignid=20133407470&mkgroupid=147476396765&rlsatarget=pla-1645685073288&abcId=9312979&merchantid=137763754&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh_2xIwa-jCXwz-uKbF3C9hSg&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3qPWzbzT_wIVIyyzAB3DawBCEAQYAiABEgJbg_D_BwE
Check this link out. If the multimeter is set to the right setting it should go to 0. That being said, the one from my car said it was good, but the replacement fuse had more amps & fixed the problem so I’m glad I replaced it anyway. If you still have the factory fuse in, I would buy the 150amp & switch it out since the tech bulletin says it should be upgraded to the 150. th-cam.com/video/ecHB8mliCbI/w-d-xo.html
I really liked it, a lot of highway miles and it had a quiet cabin ride & the seats were comfortable for wide shoulders. Good gas mileage, the Bluetooth worked great, & I loved the keyless entry. The only problem I have with it is the motor blew & there was a massive recall on the motors for a lot of Hyundai & Kia vehicles from like 2012-2016 & my experience with trying to get Hyundai to fix it were a nightmare. They did not honor my recall for some dumb minor reason. Because of that I don’t think I will ever buy a Hyundai again. I have a Honda Accord 4dr now & love it.
I tested both my 125 from the car & the new 150 & it both tested the same showing good. Once I replaced the 125 with the 150 the car started working again.
I assume the car is still going strong? I've done this exact fix recently, It fixed the car for about 48 hours then the problem continued. P1B71, P1B70 continues to be thrown and the car displays the hybrid message and to pull over. Now with the 150amp fuse it will turn back on with just a key cycle and acts like normal until EV mode is needed or hard braking occurs.
Mine has been operating perfectly since the change. Sounds like yours may have the additional issue of the Power Control Relay attached to the hybrid battery in the trunk. Just guessing, but that’s where’d I’d go next.
Wow, I'm really hoping this is the problem with my daughter's Kia. I'm willing to risk $65. Do you know if the door in the trunk where this fuse if found is located in the same area on a Kia?

Is this the Yellow Wrench indicator under the display that comes on intermittently in my 2013 Sonata Hybrid?
Yes, that’s one of the lights that came on when mine experienced the issue.
@@thejoki04 My car is running just fine (for now) and that light is intermittent (for now). Just had it in yesterday and they said they didn't know what to do with it since no codes were on the diag.
Plus I never get a CEL with it. Just the wrench.
Fingers crossed for you! Might not hurt to have a backup fuse in the car with a screwdriver set in case it dies on the road on you. Save you a bunch of money and trouble! Lol
@@thejoki04 FOR SURE! I'll for sure have to do that. Thanks again!
do you have a video changing the fuse? or how to change the fuse?
If you open the back cover in the trunk, you will be able to pull the whole fuse assembly out. Once you have it out, you can pop the cover off & you will see two star / Phillips screw bits which you can take out, then take out the fuse. Put the new one back in & you’re good to go.
@@thejoki04 I did purchase and changed the fuse and problem solved car is back to normal.
thank you very much guys , you guys save me a lot money
This is outstanding. I am very excited this fox is working for so many people.
@@thejoki04 Should I disconnect the battery first?
I did on mine, it’s probably not a bad idea.
This happened to my 2015 sonata, happed like 3 years ago. it's been sitting for 3 years while I was still making payments for it but couldn't drive it and Hyundai wouldn't help at all. I'll give this a try. Because nobody around me works on hybrids. And we'll it's paid off now and just sitting there. So might as well try this as a last resort before I sell it for scrap.
Best of luck!! If this doesn’t work, try the power control module on the hybrid system, it’s a couple hundred dollars, but you could always sell the part if it does not work…
@@thejoki04 that was the first thing I changed when it first happened. I googled this problem and that was one of the fixes. I changed it out and the Car started up for a minutes drove it a few feet and got the warning again and car shut down. So idk but it sucks that Hyundai won't take care of this problem. I got the car with less than 50,000 miles on it. Soon as warranty went out at 100,000 this happened. I still owed 9 grand on it, had to make payments until I paid it off last year, while it sat in my yard. So fingers crossed this works. If so I'm selling it lol.
@@nonyabusiness7780 oh man that sucks, lol. Let me know how it goes for you!
Did it work??
Where do you live? Don't scrap it. Did you ever figure it out? If not I would like to buy it for spare parts for mine.
We're on a weekend trip back toward our home and have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with yellow warning lights and beeping. The car seems to be driving the same as normal but the mechanic's scanner couldn't find a code but when she unplugged it, the display in the car said " battery discharge warning ".
@@thejoki04 Thanks for your reply! We stopped at autozone in Las Vegas. She scanned our vehicle again and it came up with a few things. She reset it and it's been running fine since. Only 250 miles from home.
PHEW!!
Did you guys make it??
@@thejoki04 yes! After getting codes reset at Autozone, southwest Las Vegas on Blue Diamond , it was smooth sailing all the way home. 270 miles, beep free. Thanks for asking.
Thanks so much. It worked perfectly
Hi, good vid. Did it give you any codes? Mine says not communicating with HPCU. And check brake.
Yes, mine said check brake & a few others. Since it’s saying not communicating with the HPCU, it makes sense that the fuse is faulty because that’s what controls that connection. Best of luck!
Wasn't there a recall on this fuse?
I’m not sure about a recall, I haven’t been following it since my fix. There is a TSB for this issue where they say the fuse needs to be replaced with a bigger one.
Hey I just got a 2015 Hyundai sonata hybrid. My bf took it up a mountain now it's having this issue. I can't find the fuse any where to order it. It only gives me the safety cover.
Check with a Hyundai or Kia dealership, they should keep them in stock.

Did u get only a wrench because that’s the only light that comes on for me
No, I had many lights on with lots of beeping.
Are you able to link the bulletin for the hyundai sonata hybrid? I have a 2014 and just had the “check charging system” & “do not drive”message come up. My mechanic is stumped and the hyundai techs had no knowledge of the fuse. Thanks

Please do, I sure hope this fixes your issue!!
@@thejoki04 This caused the problem. Also had to change the 12v battery because it just wouldnt stay on. But it appears to be running just fine now. Can’t thank you enough for your video. Saved me hundreds if not thousands from the dealership
Awesome!! So happy to help!
Multifunction indicator lamp (MIL) (check engine light) with hybrid system warning safely stop and do not drive. You think that’s the same thing?
My dash was lit up like a Christmas tree with many lights on. I can’t guarantee a new 150 amp fuse will fix yours, but it’s a $63 chance that could fix it. Yours does sound like what mine did.
I experience the same sign , but it says check break and don’t drive . I stopped the car and switch it off. After 5 minutes when I restart the engine, the car was normal and I drove the car to home . I am experiencing this almost every week . Can someone help me to identify the problem ?
That is strange. I would probably replace the fuse from the video anyway, it may fix it.
Cuál fue tu solución?
Dead post but mine did almost the same thing. I was driving car kinda lost power. Then all my lights freaked out. Now I think my 12v battery is dead too. I tried the mega fuse no avail.
That sucks. You can try your 12V battery, they make load testers for those that tell you if it’s good or not(something more than a multimeter).
If it’s not that, I would check the hybrid battery power control module.

What is good fuse reading ? Mine go from 0.5 to 0.1 in 3 seconds when testing it with multimeter is this good or bad?
Check this link out. If the multimeter is set to the right setting it should go to 0. That being said, the one from my car said it was good, but the replacement fuse had more amps & fixed the problem so I’m glad I replaced it anyway. If you still have the factory fuse in, I would buy the 150amp & switch it out since the tech bulletin says it should be upgraded to the 150.

Does the radio or the USB circuit work?
Sorry, I cannot remember if they were working when this happened, I do not think so.
How has the car been for you? I see you have a lot of miles on it. How would you rate it?
All 1102 low voltage temp codes?
Sorry, just saw this. I did not see any of those codes, but prior to changing the fuse, the car would not start and drive.
So you don’t think replacing it with 125 amp would work?
I tested both my 125 from the car & the new 150 & it both tested the same showing good. Once I replaced the 125 with the 150 the car started working again.
@@thejoki04 what was the part number for the fuse
Part number should be 375F2-4R150
Ntsb recommends putting the 150.
What year and model is her car?
2012 Kia Optima hybrid
Yes, it should look exactly the same as my video. You can also look at this link below and scroll to page 20 where it will show you.

@@thejoki04 it didn't work. I thought it might because everything else seemed to power on and there was a hum or something from the engine, plus the AC and radio powered on, but when put in drive it wouldn't go anywhere. I saw a check charging system warning with what looked like an alternator and a battery on the display, and after leaving it on for about 10 mins I'd get the same power off car do not go anywhere warning. The battery was so low I couldn't even lock the doors with the clicker thingy. Any suggestions?
I recommend charging your battery in the trunk, you could probably connect jumper cables from another vehicle for awhile. They’d what I did with mine. Hopefully that works! If it doesn’t, it may be the power relay in the trunk above the hybrid battery.
Hello, when Hybrid Warning came you still was able to drive the car or everything just stopped?
Everything just stopped and I was unable to drive the car. I had to tow it off the interstate to troubleshoot.

Hello brother. I would REALLY appreciate your help or someone else’s help. My 2013 hybrid sonata broke the alternator belt a few nights ago. I changed it but since then I only get that message on the screen “HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING. SAFELY STOP AND DO NOT DRIVE” I literally depend on the car to get to and from work and I don’t have anyone else. I would appreciate a LOT of SOMEONE’s help
It sounds like you’re getting the same error I did & a lot of others in the comments. I know there’s no guarantee that changing the fuse will fix it, but it did for me & a lot of others on here. I would probably start with that.
Sir I don’t understand the attached service link , is it for a different fuse?
Sorry, I just realized the TSB I attached is for a 2016 & newer Hyundai Sonata.
The video I show is on my 2013 which I think covers 2011 - 2014. What year is yours?
Mine is a 2013
You should have the same door in the trunk as I do, pull out the orange piece & the fuse is in there. I will comment again with the part number & a link.

Fuse tested good. Best to upgrade. It was your battery in trunk. Bet shortly after this u swapped the battery
I am still on the same battery over 3 months later. Zero other issues since upgrading fuse.
Did you only replace the fuse? Or did you get the entire safety fuse assembly
I only replaced the fuse. You can pop the cover off the fuse assembly after you remove it & the fuse is held in by two screws.
@@thejoki04 I just had this issue a week ago. I had to get towed to my house. My Kia Optima it's still covered under the factory warranty for the hybrid system. The worst part is that the service center is saying they cannot duplicate warning so everything seems fine. I had to call corporate to press the issue that the car was unsafe to drive. Kia told me do not pick up the vehicle it is deemed unsafe to drive but unfortunately my car will be in their hands as long as it takes for them to find out what's wrong
That’s crazy. There is a technical service bulletin that was released for the Optima as well: static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10154660-9999.pdf
I would bring this up with them & ask them for a loaner vehicle while they try figure it out. If I’m not mistaken, loaner vehicles are up to the discretion of your local dealership, but maybe corporate can help you if you ask them.
@@thejoki04 I pulled the 2 screws but doesn't want to come out
Try pry on it with a flat blade screwdriver. If it won’t come out, you may need to order a whole new hev safety plug off Amazon.
Sorry, but your fix description does not make any sense. The fuse is good or bad, nothing in between. I have replace both fuse and inverter and get the same bad behaviour.
That’s what I thought too, the old 125 fuse from the car was showing it was good, but when I changed just the fuse only to the new 150 fuse, it started working again……. I changed nothing else. I went from a testing good 125 fuse, to a new 150 fuse & it started working.
The trunk battery lasts 2 years. If older replace. Then take to dealer get program update. Still issue need hybrid management module
Thanks for the info
You are most welcome!

My pleasure!
So I just had this same issue happen to me on the parkway as soon as I eclipsed that 100,000 mile mark. Just felt I had to throw that out there.. do you recommend the 125 or the 150 amp?
I believe the tech service bulletin on it says you have to upgrade to the 150 amp.
@@thejoki04 so update.. I couldn’t find the 150 online so I ordered the same 125 and it has worked fine. The dealership said there was a waitlist for the part.
