I'm in Maui and got splints in my right leg after a run. Bought your tape at Long's, followed the video and now I'm not stuck on the condo couch anymore. The pain is much more manageable. Thanks!!
@rinlag123 It's actually really simple for shin splints- KT Tape is basically holding everything together to prevent microtears (shin splint pain) from occurring. Works beautifully.
@ChillDudeTwentyTwo KT Tape is used for various techniques to increase fluid flow, de-load pain receptors, facilitate or inhibit muscles, reduce edema by opening up the lymphatic system, or mechanically support a joint through its full range of motion. Based on the application technique, how much stretch, where, and in what direction - you can achieve drastic improvements in acute or chronic conditions. In some cases, such as muscle technique, KT Tape signals to the nervous system what we want.
@ChillDudeTwentyTwo no gimmick. Light elastic tape has been used for 30 years to address these issues all over the world. Olympic athletes, professional athletes, and athletes of all types have used KT Tape with enormous success. KT Tape has not only saved careers and allowed the weekend warrior to remain active, it has helped tens of thousands of people recover after surgery, heal faster after acute injuries, and perform at optimum levels whether it’s in competition or in everyday life.
Here are some ideas; - Don't increase your mileage too quickly. - Run on softer surfaces, when possible. - Give yourself enough rest and recovery time. - Get the right running shoes. - Replace your running shoes if they're old. - Do heel raises and toe raises. - Stretch your calves.
No- rigid tapes like athletic tape wouldn't be kind to your shins. KT Tape works because it's highly elastic so it moves with your body while providing support.
What is the best way to prevent this kind of shin splint from occurring in the first place? This video shows the exact location that I get shin splints.
It would be very unlikely. If you apply incorrectly really the only side effect is that you won't see the results you should. Don't sweat it if it doesn't look exactly like in the video. It doesn't have to match exactly to work.
@ChillDudeTwentyTwo These mechanoreceptors are located just under the skin and are highly sensitive to surface sensation. These signals, applied correctly, can encourage the brain and body to heal itself without the use of drugs or restrictive modalities. In other techniques, such as the “band-aid” technique, we can mechanically de-load painful areas and increase blood flow.
@ChillDudeTwentyTwo KT Tape will therapeutically create a sensation at the surface that will stimulate and promote the body’s natural response to pain. We can also use the tape to reduce swelling by opening up the channels that move these fluids. This technique creates convolutions in the skin that pull on the fibers that connect to the lymphatic system. This tugging and subsequent opening of the lymphatics allows this fluid to quickly flow away from the area.
@420killawhale Usually it just boils down to a couple tricks when applying the tape. The most common reason is the ends of the tape being stretched. After that it's usually not rubbing your hand vigorously over the tape after applying to activate the adhesive. Let us know if those help? thx.
How does the "new" method you posted of taping shin splints compare to this video? I have been using the 'old' method for about a year and just noticed you have a new video on post shin splints... please advise. Thank you! PS: my point of pain is about 3 inches above the ankle bone.
Is this taping technique intended just during actual participation in sports, or can it be beneficial to apply it every day during common daily activities while suffering from shin splints?
@mjc3389yt KT Tape is meant to be used before, during, and after any type of physical activity. If you have a recurring issue with shin splints I would tape before- you'll be amazed at the difference.
The tape come off around the ankle part a few minutes after applying. I am not stretching it around there, the skin is clean and i apply heat, and i rub the tape after.
I purchased KT tape today, but it doesn't appear to be perforated in the center to produce this tape? Do I need the KT Pro tape for it to be perforated?
Is this a gimmick meant for Americans? How does this super-elastic tape decrease pain in posterior tib original tendinitis/osis? periostiitis? Let alone stress reactions/fractures...It seems it may only have an affect on the skin overlying.
can u just put the tape right along the shin splint area and not cut it and do all of that fancy stuff? also i just have the black tape why do u need the red one?
@ChillDudeTwentyTwo Rehabilitation and normal range of movement will follow, all helping to speed recovery and get the athlete, or weekend warrior, or busy mom and dad, back to what they love. Hope that's not too much info:) Let us know if you have any other questions. Thx.
not sure the answer to the first part but the synthetic tape is lasts longer its waterproof. sleeping with long socks on keeps it on longer as well. keeps the blankets and sheets from lifting the ends up
I have this issue and I'm currently in PT school. I was hoping you could tell me why you have the Tibialis Posterior in a flexed position, rather than in an extension/stretched position? In my mind it would make sense to evert the foot and dorsiflex to stretch the muscle and then apply the tape that way the tape doesn't allow the muscle to contract as much. Or do you want the tape to help contract the muscle? Any feedback as to why the taping is done in this way would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
Hi Dan, this video you saw is one of our older videos and we have two newer versions. Here is the newest version we just released a few weeks ago, and it does indeed have the foot positioned as you suggest: th-cam.com/video/owztUlYRexw/w-d-xo.html Great feedback, thank you. And happy taping!
KT Tape thanks the response, watched the other video and looks like the correct way. Why do you have this video up still if it's the incorrect way to do it?
Notice how the video has a super-imposed link on it which says: "Click here to see the latest version" - that's intended to direct traffic to our newer videos. The newest video we just posted will soon be the one we re-direct to.
I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else wants to learn about best way to treat shin splints try Cranstirk Splint Cure Channel (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my buddy got cool results with it.

These videos are amazingly informative and I'm grateful for them - but the music at the start is SO LOUD compared to the speaking part afterwards
No. We don't make the perforated tape anymore. Check out our newest videos to get the instructions on taping with the solid strips of tape.

I see there are a few videos for this ailment. How do I know which is best?
I would recommend the tape over the sleeve.

No, but you can leave them on for several days at a time.
You could give it a try and see if it helps but in general KT Tape is not a good solution for stress fractures.

if applied wrongly is there a chance of KT tape aggrevating the injury?
You should trim them. The tape will stick much better and hurt less coming off.
No it shouldn't. It should stay on through work outs and showers.

I confused about whether to use this taping method, or the distal posterior tibial tendinitis taping- they seem to be for similar pain?
I tried riping the tape like you do at 0:57 but it didn't work
Same
Ashley Foltz you have to use we scissors
lol i think that's only work for K-tape .. not other brand
It actually works pretty cool
why don't you tape the pain site directly? Is it better to tape only around it?
How does taping relieve pain ....how does it work ???

I normally use KT tape but can i use the Ptex tape the same way?
Can a leg sleeve help me prevent a shin injury
Yes- this should work well.
No- one color is all you need. We only use two colors for clarity sake on the video's. Thx.

I have pain on bouth side of the leg, on that side you have showed and on other side of that side
Thank you for sharing this video 🤝 my pain is gone 🙀

How does it work? What does it do?
I bought some and tried it out the other day but all it did was rip a strip off hair off me leg.
Check out our website for all the info on how it works and what it does. Also you can watch our latest videos.
If I sweat from my legs will the tape come off???
Can you reuse the strips or no?

Does this stuff stick onto, "hairy" skin well? And which kind of KT Tape lasts the longest?
not sure the answer to the first part but the synthetic tape is lasts longer its waterproof. sleeping with long socks on keeps it on longer as well. keeps the blankets and sheets from lifting the ends up
@lafq If you need something stickier check out the brand new KT tape pro- it's 300% stickier. For more info check out our website. thx
