- After hearing gun-fire from a nearby turf war, the team of Firehouse 51 attempt to lock down the station but are held hostage by some fleeing gang members who are looking for a hide-out after one of their own is shot in the stomach.
From Chicago Fire Season 5 Episode 16 'Telling Her Goodbye' - Members of the fire and rescue squads become hostages when a group of armed gang members invades and assumes control over Firehouse 51 during a turf war.
Chicago Fire (2012 -): Firefighters and paramedics work together to save lives on a regular basis. They also face personal issues, but they keep them aside in order to focus on their profession.

@@runsoncaffeineit's funny, because when you understand and respect firearms, you get the opposite effect. I'm a big gun enthusiast, but I only ever shoot paper. One time, a coyote was threatening my cat outside. Let me tell you, pointing a gun at a living creature is nothing like Media or fiction would have you believe. I didn't have to shoot him in the end thankfully, but it's such a horrible feeling when you don't want to hurt things but you're being forced to potentially do it.
They aren't boys, that would imply they are human, gangsters aren't exactly human, most of them.
This was one of my favorite episodes, shows that those firefighters are prepared to handle more than just the fire training they have.
If Chase would have just said “trust me, I’m a doctor.” this entire situation could have been avoided.

Thats on the producer and director. Script was written for obviously a lot of units to show. Yet they only provided 2 extras to drive the 2 cars
If a firehouse got taken hostage, people would notice. They are very publicly placed, would be called by dispatchers all the time, and them not responding would lead to issues.
This is the major thing about why Emergency! from the 70s (also on NBC; have been truly enjoying it on DVD) did more for me than this ever will; I don't think I recall any time when the firefighters of 51 in L.A. County were taken hostage at the station (Gage and DeSoto were taken hostage on a call, but that was for a brief time, and it was resolved without any bloodshed or guns, as I understand it).
Why do they not trust firefighters. Their whole job is to save lives. Holding a gun to their throat doesnt help them do that.
These same type of people have prevented firefighters from arriving to the scene of the fire or medical emergency. Some will even shoot at them while tending to emergencies.
Hence why Fire and EMS often rely on police to secure a scene. Because police are armed, and trained to deal with combative people.

@@classact9557 It seemed strange to me. because in my country firemen are armed and sworn officers, they carry guns (mostly a Bersa Thunder 9) and can make arrests and have the same powers as the police. They would get instantly shot lol or at least met with some resistance.

Honestly, this was one of the craziest episodes of Season 5. I mean, I never expected a gang to take over Station 51 and have one guy who was a literal idiot, thinking that Stella, a Firefighter/Paramedic would kill his friend. On top of all that, Casey got shot, and Gabby was really worried for her husband as she didn't know if he was okay or not.
That guy that thought Stella was trying to kill their friend was clearly paranoid and most likely under the influence of something.

First 5 seasons of this show were pretty awesome I think this was a later season episode and it was definitely intense

Underneath all that bluster, those gangbangers are just wannabe tough guys. This was a cool episode, though.
Things that only happen in Fireman/Hospital shows
1. Ambulance car jacked because 1 of 2 criminals is shot and needs treatment. (Usually brothers)
2. Firehouse/ hospital held hostage.
3. Doctor/ Fireman held hostage in grocery store with hurt civilians.
Firehouses being held hostage has actually happened a few times. Normally, they only hold the firefighter hostage when they're out on calls, typically calls where PD isn't sent out, but there's been more than a few news stories about fire house getting held hostage with the people inside trapped.

Here's a Lil knowledge street gangs would most likely never take over a fire house it's like an unspoken rule to never do certain things in the hood that would shake the infrastructure of the balance because these are often the people that save them

This is my first ever exposure to this series but…why is the logic so bad? Those thugs claims to treat the firehouse with mutual respect while wailing pistols like a bunch of untrained civilians. Worse yet, no one pointed out their barbaric nature and de-escalate the situation by simply implying that they’re to help, not to expose. THEN AN ICING ON THE CAKE, KNOWING that anyone without the context of the situation would most likely try to call for help in a hostage situation, she still purposefully let her colleague loose knowing that may cause more unwanted chaos in the midst…WHY?!?!?!
And the fact that the guy closed the door instead of getting out and warning them
