This isn't a matter of who did what, it's a matter of who is worse off. Hospitals are designed to care for everyone equally regardless of what they did or who they are. Unfortunately in this case it so happens a bad guy comes over Hospital staff but it's just how medicine works.

Those only work when dealing with small doses of cyanide exposure, and they counteract the Cyanide’s effects but they don’t cure and or heal the damage it causes to organs and or body.
Yep. I had to be trained on what to do if myself or a co worker was exposed to cyanide, and while it is a SUPER dangerous substance, it is possible to treat cyanide poisoning.
What BS. As a HAZMAT specialist and instructor, you don't use Level B PPE for an unknown toxic. Level A fully contained suits are it. If he made cyanide, they would be dead in minutes. Wave a piece of wet cyanide test paper or use a meter with a cyanide cell and you have your answer. Just a great way to stretch the drama.
I love how Maggie is just SCREAMING at the top of her lungs “ GET OUT NOW “. She must have been a super General or Admiral in different lifetime. She just SCRAMBLED the entire fleet into counterattack / battle mode for the emergency. Hands down BEST person of the show.

It's so easy to blame the people who wear the uniform of healing... I completely understand what it means when feeling a great loss of a loved one but it comes down to the body of that loved one and the people who help them do everything they can think of to heal your loved one... I want to thank the nurses and doctors who did everything they could to keep my mom as comfortable and okay as possible... I still have my aversions to hospitals but where would I go if I need to live from life-threatening emergcies... Sometimes lives are taken and we need to be strong to those who depend on us... Life and their sibling death are known to be unfair to all they are just doing what they are created to do so that is why we should live our life to the fullest no matter how brief or wronged it was we make the best of it and go through the process of rebirth
He even told him he did 35 min of CPR on his wife which is an miracle in itself so I don’t understand how he could just endanger dozens of people for it
There should be contingency laws in place to protect Health Care workers in the event of an attack. That aid isn’t withheld from any surviving attackers but any limiting medical supplies or work is reserved for the workers or bystanders effected by their attack first. I understand it seems cold. But sometimes you need to be, but again I’m not saying withhold treatment (never) just prioritize those effected first by their attacks.
I think it’s more like how this border-line terrorist who hurt other people and most likely got people killed is given the medicine first even though he was the one who released the toxin and the medic who saved said guy who did die terrorist like action and lots of others at the risk of his own health didn’t get the medicine because he wasn’t in a bad state. This guy released CYANIDE into a hospital because HE believed the doctors could have done more. He risked the lives of everyone in the hospital for his own selfish reasons and then got effected by his own toxin he released. And yet he still got the medicine over not only a medic, but the very medic who saved his life and many others.
Do you remember the Covid pandemic? In its first year, it was a disease that often caused severe pneumonia. I recall it was my final year of Med school and I attended seminars where doctors were considering the ethics of figuring out how to triage limited supplies especially ventilators since both medical staff and people from the community were dropping like flies. Many doctors were saying that since they were older with comorbids, they would voluntarily give up their ventilators for younger patients with similar severity who would live. Others pointed out that doctors should be prioritized since it took many years to train one back to their level. Other doctors took the route of deciding not to practice or to limit their practice since they argued that based on our society’s ethical policies, a doctor cannot be obligated to render care where his life would be endangered.
This is how military triage works, which is different from standard civilian triage. They prioritize giving resources to those who will be returned to service by doing so, therefore increasing the number of functioning people.
I lost my grandfather on Friday, i don’t know the cause of his death yet but i do know the doctors did everything they could to help him. Grief can do powerful things but it shouldn’t be this powerful
Emergency situations inside of hospitals are so interesting. Something like this could never be truly practiced. But I imagine even though chaotic and crazy protocols would very quickly happen. It's on a much much smaller scale but if you've ever watched a code blue in its entirety it is incredible. I was in hospital and had been there for over 2 week at the time. One night a woman was admitted into my room for an early procedure to look for bleeding. I was annoyed having a roommate (even if only for the night) it was fine. Over the next few hours the lady's entire presence changed. She became very aggressive, then very weak, and then a code blue was called. In an INSTANT there was 15 people in the room more right outside the door. No one told anybody what to do. Everyone just knew. There was a curtain separating me to the far side of the room. Obviously I was of zero priority and was attached to the wall myself. The lady didn't make it but the experience was ..... beautiful. That sounds strange but being chronically ill it may be different for me. The most incredible aspect of the code circumstances is that the majority of the nurses on staff were seasonal. Only having been in the hospital for maybe 2 weeks, 3 tops. But they all still moved as though it was this amazingly choreographed performance. The only thing that would have made it better is if the woman had not passed away. It gave me a ton of respect of the seasonal nurses that come in every year. (NOT that I didn't have respect for them already lol).

There's a big ole ton of stuff that can kill you pretty quick just from getting a whiff! Ehe. Even rotten potatoes, if they're in a pantry or root cellar for long. They give off solanine gas which can knock you out in all of a minute and kill you within a few more. It happened in I think Russia to an entire family. I know it's not a little canister type situation, but it's still a fun fact. Have a groovy day!

In regards to everything said here that is how it works in certain circumstances however I do believe in this situation, both had relatively similar likelihood of survival, remember this is epi, uts helping their situation. It's not an organ that will be destroyed by other factors of a person's life

Doc's life is more important than the guy who just poisoned an entire ER. If protocol demanded that the attempted murderer gets medical priority over a dying doctor then protocol must be changed. My little sister died 2 years ago of SADS the paramedics gave CPR for two hours before they asked my parents if they should stop one of the paramedics was balling his eyes out of course i was angry but not at the paramedics im grateful that the paramedics continued even tho they knew she was long gone i cant imagine its easy loosing a patient let alone a child patient
one thing that always irritates me in this show is how they struggle with wanting to help the "bad guys." if anything i'd want the bad guys to live and get better as quickly as possible so they can face the full wrath of their consequences...

And anyway, death is seen as an easy way out and the “bad guy” definitely would’ve seen it that ways because he would’ve been able to reunite with his dead wife. Isn’t it a bit wrong that Ethan got praised for going back in the toxic chemical to save Patrick but April got shamed for going back in the toxic chemical to get medicine to save Ethan?
It's wild how inaccurate the chemical side of this episode was. Always gives me a good laugh. The canister is labeled with its nfpa code, and underneath just says "toxic chemical" rather than the actual name of the chemical. Also, apparently, the hcn gas was liquefied, but the canister did not appear to be pressurized, so I'm not sure how that would be possible given hcn is volatile. The "liquefied" hcn gas can also supposedly vaporize almost instantaneously as it somehow gives a near lethal dose (300mg/m^3) just seconds after its liquid form was released from the canister, with most of the liquid still on the ground. And they spent so long trying to "identify" the substance when the canister should be labeled such that you can literally just read it off the canister. And apparently, HCN poisoning has no antidote except oh wait, it actually has quite a few.
I know it's a panic situation and it's hard to think clearly, but I feel like slapping the container out of his hands (into an isolated room with a door) before tackling the man into a room with so many other people in it would have been a smarter decision. Then again, in the first place I would rather pull the man in, run out and close the door on him; if he still drops the canister in the process, worse situation, but even then, isolated room = more time before gas leaks = more time to evacuate and less chance of fatal inhalation.
Or, pull the guy in, slam the door shut, and lock it, with both of you/myself and him, inside the room ... Would be self-sacrificing, but the needs of the many ... besides, with Cyanide, you can't outrun it. The best thing you can do is keep it contained in as small an area as possible ... ... also, Cyanide is pretty damn fast acting. Its why, in real life, those working for the British SOE, and the American OSS, when dropped behind enemy lines in Occupied France, during WWII, where given glass Cyanide ampoules; crush between the teeth, and death is in seconds. It's also how Himmler himself committed suicide, as no-one stripped searched him for anything dangerous, thus missed the ampoule he hid in his clothing.

If you had perfect awareness and control of your body, reaction time, and mental faculties, you could look for an opening to grab him and lock him into the room where he can only harm himself. Unfortunately, even trained professionals do not always have this full luxury. I hear the character Choi used to be a marine, so that would explain how he was able to remain as calm as he did and was able to react as fast as he did, but of course that doesn't mean that he would make the absolute best decision in the moment.
I’ve seen them save someone who’s actions killed others and he was prioritized even though he was the reason people were dying. So wrong they chose his life over the ones he killed. They died because he was their priority prior to everyone else’s emergent situations. There was one available surgical suite and he got it.

The label should have an actual name… also, that thing is pretty dangerous to be level 4 for fire and biohazard, while also being a level 2 radiation threat. I lost my grandfather on Friday, i don’t know the cause of his death yet but i do know the doctors did everything they could to help him. Grief can do powerful things but it shouldn’t be this powerful
Emergency situations inside of hospitals are so interesting. Something like this could never be truly practiced. But I imagine even though chaotic and crazy protocols would very quickly happen.
It's on a much much smaller scale but if you've ever watched a code blue in its entirety it is incredible.
I was in hospital and had been there for over 2 week at the time. One night a woman was admitted into my room for an early procedure to look for bleeding. I was annoyed having a roommate (even if only for the night) it was fine. Over the next few hours the lady's entire presence changed. She became very aggressive, then very weak, and then a code blue was called. In an INSTANT there was 15 people in the room more right outside the door. No one told anybody what to do. Everyone just knew. There was a curtain separating me to the far side of the room. Obviously I was of zero priority and was attached to the wall myself. The lady didn't make it but the experience was ..... beautiful. That sounds strange but being chronically ill it may be different for me.
The most incredible aspect of the code circumstances is that the majority of the nurses on staff were seasonal. Only having been in the hospital for maybe 2 weeks, 3 tops. But they all still moved as though it was this amazingly choreographed performance. The only thing that would have made it better is if the woman had not passed away.
It gave me a ton of respect of the seasonal nurses that come in every year. (NOT that I didn't have respect for them already lol).

this really puts it into perspective how dangerous cyanide is. like i knew its a poisonous substance but i didnt know how bad it could be from just a spill like that.
There's a big ole ton of stuff that can kill you pretty quick just from getting a whiff! Ehe. Even rotten potatoes, if they're in a pantry or root cellar for long. They give off solanine gas which can knock you out in all of a minute and kill you within a few more. It happened in I think Russia to an entire family. I know it's not a little canister type situation, but it's still a fun fact. Have a groovy day!

It's not that they would rather save him, they are legally obligated to. If the killer had any family that cared about him, the hospital would be liable for criminal negligence.

It’s like that old joke. When the patient survives, they thank God for saving them but when the patient dies, the doctors are evil for not trying hard enough and should be blamed for the death.

No, medical, ethical protocol is whomever would benefit from the treatment most and have greatest opportunity to survive with length of life & quality of life.
isn’t that part of why they don’t give people with certain diseases/severities/drug or whatever habits a transplant because they consider it too high a risk of them not benefitting enough from the organ anyway
@@ghoullovinbutch As far as i understand yea, if you have 1 liver available for 2 patients, one being 67 and a heavy drinker vs a 25 year old healthfreak the freak gets it. i`m not completely sure if that is actually how they do it but that is my understanding of it.
Transplant Committee looks at things like prognosis, expected lifespan, genetic considerations, urgency, transportation, etc.
In regards to everything said here that is how it works in certain circumstances however I do believe in this situation, both had relatively similar likelihood of survival, remember this is epi, uts helping their situation. It's not an organ that will be destroyed by other factors of a person's life
most unbelievable part is how long it took for cfd to determine that it was cyanide. it's fairly common it has a distinctive smell and a very easy test
Doc's life is more important than the guy who just poisoned an entire ER. If protocol demanded that the attempted murderer gets medical priority over a dying doctor then protocol must be changed. There's a reason why you help yourself before you help others, the same logic should be applied to that who can help others as well.

After he mentioned the meds he gave her it seems like she went into anaphylactic shock so this lady probably had known allergies and came into contact with them ; anyways if the medication and CPR wasn’t able to save her, you can’t really blame the doctors.

My little sister died 2 years ago of SADS the paramedics gave CPR for two hours before they asked my parents if they should stop one of the paramedics was balling his eyes out of course i was angry but not at the paramedics im grateful that the paramedics continued even tho they knew she was long gone i cant imagine its easy loosing a patient let alone a child patient

@@DevlinskyIt would go against protocol to give it to the doctor because the “bad guy” was in a worse condition. They’re just doing their jobs. And anyway, death is seen as an easy way out and the “bad guy” definitely would’ve seen it that ways because he would’ve been able to reunite with his dead wife. Being forced to live, incarcerated and grief stricken, is a worse punishment.

Umm, does anyone else not see the connection that the cyanide poison die the same thing as what it did to his wife? I get that's the idea of why he brought it but, doesn't it make anyone else think this guy may have killed his wife? Maybe not intentionally but tracking in a chemical from work and the exposure killing her?

It's wild how inaccurate the chemical side of this episode was. Always gives me a good laugh. The canister is labeled with its nfpa code, and underneath just says "toxic chemical" rather than the actual name of the chemical. Also, apparently, the hcn gas was liquefied, but the canister did not appear to be pressurized, so I'm not sure how that would be possible given hcn is volatile. The "liquefied" hcn gas can also supposedly vaporize almost instantaneously as it somehow gives a near lethal dose (300mg/m^3) just seconds after its liquid form was released from the canister, with most of the liquid still on the ground. And they spent so long trying to "identify" the substance when the canister should be labeled such that you can literally just read it off the canister. And apparently, HCN poisoning has no antidote except oh wait, it actually has quite a few.
This is the reason Medical staff are trained to have an escape plan and not let anyone come between them and the door

I know it's a panic situation and it's hard to think clearly, but I feel like slapping the container out of his hands (into an isolated room with a door) before tackling the man into a room with so many other people in it would have been a smarter decision. Then again, in the first place I would rather pull the man in, run out and close the door on him; if he still drops the canister in the process, worse situation, but even then, isolated room = more time before gas leaks = more time to evacuate and less chance of fatal inhalation.
Or, pull the guy in, slam the door shut, and lock it, with both of you/myself and him, inside the room ...
Would be self-sacrificing, but the needs of the many ... besides, with Cyanide, you can't outrun it. The best thing you can do is keep it contained in as small an area as possible ...
... also, Cyanide is pretty damn fast acting. Its why, in real life, those working for the British SOE, and the American OSS, when dropped behind enemy lines in Occupied France, during WWII, where given glass Cyanide ampoules; crush between the teeth, and death is in seconds. It's also how Himmler himself committed suicide, as no-one stripped searched him for anything dangerous, thus missed the ampoule he hid in his clothing.

@@nigelft it depends on the ventilation system in the hospital. even if it' just the one room, it could still get into the air system which would still mean evacuating the building
If you had perfect awareness and control of your body, reaction time, and mental faculties, you could look for an opening to grab him and lock him into the room where he can only harm himself. Unfortunately, even trained professionals do not always have this full luxury. I hear the character Choi used to be a marine, so that would explain how he was able to remain as calm as he did and was able to react as fast as he did, but of course that doesn't mean that he would make the absolute best decision in the moment.

I’ve seen them save someone who’s actions killed others and he was prioritized even though he was the reason people were dying. So wrong they chose his life over the ones he killed. They died because he was their priority prior to everyone else’s emergent situations. There was one available surgical suite and he got it.
I know it’s bad but think. If he were to be last and died, he wouldn’t get his punishment. With him being alive, he can get the punishment deserved.

Small correction, the blue 4 and yellow 2 are health hazard and reactivity, respectively hydrogen cyanide is both deadly and rather flammable below 73F while being rather reactive
