You are a trooper for playing this on the actual Hardware with the Red Filter. Yeah, this game has the potential to be a pretty good Wario Land, but it was held back by the console it is on and the fact that it's so short.

As well, I’m such a big Wario game fan (the warioware series …not so much.) All his platform games are always so much fun to play, almost more fun than the Mario ones! Which is why I really wish they’d release a properly colorized version of this game, least to the level of Wario Land 4. It just looks like so much fun…though the red tint is a bit off putting for me, so I’ve never really taken the time to play it. Which is why I really appreciate your video on it, so I can at least enjoy the game vicariously through your videos…least until they run out of Mario games to re-re-release and do something with this overlooked gem. Whoa! A VB Wario Land player who knows about the secret run button! That’s pretty uncommon on TH-cam. I play this game every year on my Virtual Boy. It’s the reason I own the thing in the first place. I’ve always loved trying to beat my best time, completing the Playboy run in doing so.
I recently did play through this game on a real Virtual Boy, both quests, and got all 7 endings. Even did one with 99999 coins, though you get the same ending as the 50000 coin one.

Cause the game did have an "Auto Pause" option where after some time has passed, it will pause in-between stages to tell you it's time to take a break and rest your eyes.(With the graphic of Wario sleeping from the intro)

I even got achievements for it and was able to swap out the bleeding red for perfectly workable white! That actually gets around some of the "blends into the background" issues, something about the added contrast. Oh, also, the endings for Hard Mode are completely different even outside of how well you do.
It's rather disappointing that VB Wario Land didn't get a 3DS remake. Renegade Kid, the developers of Mutant Mudds, even tried pitching it to Nintendo, but no dice. Definitely deserved a remake more than bloody Urban Champion ever did.
I actually really love this game, discovered it a few years ago via emulation, loved the level design. Even with it's short length I had a blast. I have replayed it several times over the years.

This vid is what got me to start running through the Wario Land games, completed the first and VB Wario Land so far. The first one's pretty decent imo, I'd say on the level of Mario Land 2. This one I think I liked a bit better, it's pretty damn good. Especially on the 3DS though with Red Viper, because the 3D support really makes this game. It feels great to play it like that, even if it hurts after a while.

I remember playing this at a friends house in the 90s, it seemed cool but we never got past the first level so it must not have been too enthralling
