- The first test ride after 2 years of hard work and not riding. A quick shake down run to make sure everything was running true with no apparent issues. All seemed tight. It sounds just like a V4 race bike should! It sure felt great to get back in the saddle, pull up the side stand and let out the clutch. I think my son was more happy to see the old man ride than me.

Wow, I owned one of these in 1986, bought it new as a college graduation present to myself, kept it stock except for a custom exhaust and rode it for 9 years, when I traded it in for a 194 CBR900RR, now I so wish I had kept the bike. I loved mine. but yours is the coolest VF1000R I have ever seen or heard, the exhaust note brought tears to my eyes, thank you so much for putting this video up, wow! and thank you, you are an incredible bike builder!
What a great graduation present. I bought mine new in 85 after selling my 83 Interceptor. It was so radical compared to everything else. I thought at the time I would sell it for Honda's next liter bike but the Hurricane series did nothing for me. The CBRs were really something but a little too uncomfortable for me. Eventually things get cool again the older they get so the R just made sense to keep. I still love the stock look and colors and have since picked up 4 other R's that will get restored. Just need to find the time. Thanks for the kind thoughts. I have a walk around video made right after completion.
Beautiful bike you have there mate! Well done, your hard work has paid off. Your son seems to enjoy the experience too by the looks of it. Safe riding and I hope you have many happy miles out of her!
So many compliments for the bike, it's awesome! You did a great job on it! I have a 1983 Honda VF500F and I'm restoring it, I hope I can make a good job like your!!
your bike came out so nice. i had one in 96 blew the engine running from the state police but got away always dreamed of doing something custom like that really nice job.
Inspirational! Totally awesome story, video, and family!
This is the most sexy Honda i´ve seen ! Im looking for a vf 1000 84 to rebuild too ! Maaaan, good work.
Best regards Salar
Thanks Andy, kind words.

That's totally awesome!!
proud boy!

10 years later...where are we?
@oneredball It has a VFR swingarm on it with an RC30 wheel.
WELL ON A GREAT JOB ON THE BIKE . HOPE U HAVE MANY A GOOD RIDE OUT ON IT. HERE'S A QUESTION WOULD A VF 1000R ENGINE FIT INTO ANY OF THE VFR 750 MODELS FRAMES IN THE SAME WAY A CBR 9OO FIREBLADE ENGINE CAN FIT IN A CBR 600 FRAME. JUST WONDERING DID HONDA MISS AN OPPORTUNITY THERE.
My favourites bike the vF1000r
@ChowdaWoo I have been wanting to do that ever since I saw a guy do it about 7 years ago. I heard the geometry wasa nightmare and have yet to find an engineer to do it for me. Any ideas?
Kelly where in NH are you? I'm by the seacoast and would love to pick your brain on the restore.
Dover area.
Ha. I've got the bug too, oddly enough I have the same helmet and that's what started it. I bought a vf500 to match the helmet, now I think I'm going to go the vf1000 route, they are a much better looking bike.
Wheres the swingarm?
