  • After many months of trial and testing, it has out performed previous solutions I've used. This is a general purpose treatment for the dreaded Mealybug, Mold, Powdery Mildew, Aphids, etc....USER BEWARE: Always do a test patch before using on your precious and dearest plants.
    NOTE: Methylated Spirit is also known as Denatured Alcohol in other countries. Please be aware that the one I use in this video is Ethanol base 95% proof. Methanol and Ethanol are different types of alcohol or chemicals. Methylated spirits is Ethanol (alcohol) is what I use. Ethanol is less chemically toxic than Methanol.
    Methanol is extremely toxic to humans if ingested or if vapors are inhaled. .
    #succulent #fungicide #pesticide.

    Hi Liz. I’m addicted to succulents as well 🙈 My succulents saved me from serious medical and mental problems. I’ve learnt so much from your videos.
    I just wanted to pass on a tip I learnt when propagating leaves. If you find your leaf is only throwing out lots of roots, but no babies or little ‘pimples’ as you call them 😂…try pulling of half the amount of roots on the leaf. This often work and you’ll have more pimples in no time. Let me know how it works for you 💜

    Hi Liz, our weather here (NZ) is so damp warm even cool at times that my dahlias are showing signs of white spots on the leaves .. do you think it would be safe to use the meths solution on them? Do you think it would hurt the bees? Thanks for any suggestions, Yvonne

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it's powdery mildew on Dahlia, it will kill the fungus spores on contact but might need to provide more air circulation. Always do a test patch first to make sure it doesn't burn the leaves. I find that it doesn't worry the bees because it dries up so fast, but I always prefer to not spray it on the flowers where the nectar is.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good nematodes or bad nematodes? I haven't had any problems with the bad ones yet. I believe if you have a healthy soil, the good ones can control the bad ones especially in a garden scenario. But if you have the bad ones in pots and it killed your plant, I would get rid of the soil and also the plant with it.

  • @Shadowluver1242
    @Shadowluver1242 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Liz! Question, I saw another video where you said this will help dry out the soil as well. If you have a pot that had mold/fungus/root rot/etc. would you throw out all the soil? Or can the soil be saved maybe with this spray?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fungus can lay dormant in clean/fresh soil for years and need the right condition to wake them up. Wet, humid and dark places with no air circulation is an ideal place for them to grow. If I were to reuse infected soil, I would pop them first in the oven or microwave before reusing.

    Hi Liz. I live in Melbourne. Is this safe on other plants? I have a Lace Myrtle. Every year when the leaves grow back, it gets white fungus or powdery mildew on it, not sure which it is. I have used this solution in my indoor plants such as begonia, pothos, philodendron, peperomia, etc. You can do a little test patch overnight to see how it will affect the plant. Otherwise, if it's my Lace Myrtle.... I would just cut off the affected stem if it's not too much.

      *Isopropal alcohol* is a slightly different chemical compound. Liz use to use it for mealy bugs but She has a video about why she no longer does that I haven't had the chance to watch yet.
      *Denatured Alcohol* (aka Methylated spirits or Methanol in Europe & Australia & Canada) is the same chemical make-up as Ethanol (aka ethyl alcohol) which is the same as alcohol you drink, but is a much stronger alcohol content. Moonshine is what we're talking about (aprox 100 proof), but poisonous chemicals have been put into it to keep people from drinking it so the government can control (tax) the stuff you drink. People have died from drinking it, which makes one think a little differently about the government's desire to tax us over their desire to "protect" us. Anyway, you wouldn't want to drink straight moonshine (although some people do it), but it can be diluted to be like Vodka (which is about 80 proof). Typical Denatured Alcohol is around 100 proof (same as moonshine). With Liz's dilution of I Cup Alcohol to 1/4 Cup water, Vodka is in the ballpark. I'm going to try it, test it on something I have too many of (Ghost plant) to see how it does. I bought some nasty, cheap, rotgut vodka on sale for cleaning and making herbal tinctures for things like sore throats and sanitizing things. You can make vanilla extract with rum and vanilla bean. Alcohol has many uses, that's why I bought it even though I don't drink, and it never goes bad, that's why the bottles I have in the back of the cupboard are 20+ years old.
