Piranesi was one of the most unique and entrancing reading experiences I've had. The mystery of it all really pulls you in, and it does so much for a book that's a little over a hundred pages.

I would be super interested in seeing a long books video because the fear of long books is real, but I read Gone with the Wind last year and it became a favorite of all time, so I would definitely like to read longer, more intricate stories such as that one.

    • @abigase135
      @abigase135 2 ปีที่แล้ว

That's true, I've had that fear for so long and the issue is that I keep adding those books to my tbr. I tried picking up Illborn and finished it in a couple of days. So I guess it depends on the author(their writing and pace).. some make you feel how long the book is while others make every page enjoyable so you're never bored. The good ones aren't easy to find tho lol

I’m definitely going to add some of these, I think I was expecting shorter books. I tend to read books in the 300 page range as a regular length book, so 250 doesn’t feel that much shorter, especially because I have limited reading time and manage maybe 20-30 pages a session (on a good night 🥴) Would love to see a list of novellas. The Yellow Wallpaper is a favorite.

I tend to find graphic novels/comics/manga quick read, usually they take under a day, depending on how invested I get.
Also a lot of books can be a one day read if you get invested in them. I had to read ‘The Kite Runner’ for English Lit and every time I finished a chapter I thought just one more. Come 6am the next morning and I’m emotionally devastated but I finished the book. Took me about 12 hours (though I did stop for dinner and did get a couple of hours sleep).
Edit: I originally said any book could be a one day read. Yeah. Some books are just too long but if you want to go for it you do you.

things have gotten worse since we last spoke is kind of disturbing tho,, i read it and it was good but it was kind of disgusting lmao i couldn't chew down food after it that day after reading it. i had never actually read a twisted fiction type of book before this so that's why it was disturbing at first but if you like that kinda stuff then it's good!

@@shirohboy I would really suggest looking at triggers before, if you have anything against animal harm or vivid descriptions of harm to humans or animals, this is not for you. It was not something I would consider reading in a weak mental state, I live alone and it sent me into a suicidal spiral.

The very first sentence is reminiscent of first sentence of ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF SOLITUDE. I’m wondering if that was intentional…we’ll never know Zafron died in 2020.

reading short stories sounds like such a good idea to get back into reading! since starting college a few years ago, i haven't been able to read nearly as much because i can't just hop in my car and drive to the library and it's too far to walk to. i feel like it's literally affecting my mental health because the longer i go without reading the more depressed i get and reading ebooks and audiobooks just isn't the same for me and it's so much harder to get motivation to read them. to get me out of my reading slump i decided to look for graphic novels and manga because i figured i could probably go through them relatively fast but i do miss novels and will definitely be reading some (or all) of these books!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower was a very important read for me because it made me realize my own trauma from the lens of the MC. I loved Ace. I keep also getting to have all my friends to read it. Her Body and Other Parties is also amazing! I want to see more poetry discussed on booktube in general. I'm a poet and I don't read enough poetry because I never get recs.

Read The Perks of Being a Wallflower last 2020. I bought Before the Coffee gets Cold as well as the sequel last year and I am excited to read it. Thank you for uploading this video. Been looking for a booktuber to finally recommend good short books and I’m happy that you uploaded. And since you read A Little Life, A song of Achilles, and A Man Called Ove and cried on them. I bought it as well.

I think you will enjoy this book then, Meet Me at the Museum - Anne Youngson, a relatively short book (less than 300 pages) and the writing is in a letter format between two middle aged people. I don't want to give away too much, but I hope you someday pick up this book, I enjoyed reading it and finished this in a couple of days:)
Love the videos and already added these books to my list😊

Some of my favourite short books are 'In Watermelon Sugar', which I found super unique and cozy, and 'This Is How You Lose The Time War' which has some of the most stunning prose I've ever read. It's basically about two characters who write letters to each other over a span of time and each character is actually written by a different author. It's one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. Highly recommend both!

Bit of trivia: I recently read 'Dracula' and was curious how common it is for books to be made up entirely of letters and/or diary entries. It is called an Epistolary novel. Anyway, good recs!

It was more common in the Victorian era. The movie “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is based on the Captains log in “Dracula”

thank you, thank you, thank you!! for continually recommending ACE. as an aroace person it’s hard to find any representation in media and it can even be hard feeling included in the queer community sometimes. i have had ACE on my tbr for a while and have heard about it from other ace people but seeing my favourite book-tuber not only read it, but have it be in their top books of the year AND continue to recommend it means the absolute world to me!!! it often feels like we aren’t taken seriously so it just made me really happy to see you talk about it so positively!!
    All the love!! 🥺🥲🥰
