I'm genuinely curious how long it took to create this book. Like there's so many allusions and I cannot imagine how long it took to make a puzzle like that in the 1930s that took someone with google six uninterrupted months to solve. That's honestly insane.
my idea of solving it: Jack hires a number of people equivalent to the number of pages, everyone learns their one page by heart with all the references. And then they start a brainstorm that leads to the end of the world
Summarize each page in 2-3 sentences. It helps you gets the gist of the story better I think. Oh, and 6 murderers and 6 victims right? Isn't it possible that the murderers could be victims themselves? Note every person, date, place too! Oh, and also repeating words that seem to have relevance in the story!

i'll never end up doing it myself so this is really entertaining to watch, but the last person who solved it agreed to keep the process and solution a secret with the publisher so people could keep doing it themselves. it might ruin the whole magic and unsolvability of the book if everyone posts what they've done :)
imo the people who want to do it themselves simply won't watch or search up a video like this. he clearly explained what the video is about at the start, from there onwards it's up to the audience if they want to watch or not. the same way video games don't go out of business just because there are a bunch of full game plays uploaded on the internet, this book won't lose its charm and challenge just because there's a youtube video on it. at the end of the day it's up to people if they ruin it for themselves by watching it when they intended to do it on their own. also unless you buy this book with a non-disclosure contract signed at check out, the publisher is a fool to expect everyone just forever keeping their mouth shut on it in the year of 2022.
I think they should throw fun and challenging activities like this into educational settings. I would definitely take on this challenge if given in class and would make the learning experience of anaylising setting and context a lot more entertaining.
You got me hooked on this mystery!! By the way in 9:10 about the De Witt brothers John and Cornelius. The opening sentence of that page was talking about murders. The passage wasn't talking about their actual birthdays, it was referencing the anniversary of their murder on August 20 in prison. He meant birthday of a good murder that happened in prison.
You're right about this, but according to the Chambers Book of Days (which was the source that the writer of Cain's Jawbone used), the murder occurred on August 10th. So that would be the date

I'm early in the vid, but please DON'T leave the sticky tack longer then a week. It tends to leave a residue. It's good that you're using the white variation; my old workplace used the blue ones and it stained.

Since the seasonal decoration and misc documents were changed out anywhere from a week to a month or more, my employer bought the sticky tack from the dollar store down the street. Took probably way too long before we had swapped from the blue to the white. But even the white version I believe left a residue.

I'm Polish and I had no freakin idea about any Hyacinth Day, so I cannot imagine some random guy from different country just knowing that in 1934. This book is crazy!
I started reading it this week. I decided to read it in the printed form just like a regular book (at first). After that I googled a pdf that I´m going to print out. I will use this fanmade version to find out the correct order. Cause i dont wanna cut out the paged. There are some slight hints. like the thing with the full stops, there are a few the quotations that have their following part on the next page but they never match (I am looking for the same style, and rhymes) and also the line spacing. It varies (I dont know if you noticed, but if not: you´re welcome) and it has like 3 different spaces I guess. So what I´m gonna do: I´m gonna rearrange them by the line spacing, compare the quotations and the full stops and I also thought about arranging them by the different settings. And hopefully I will get the correct solution. little disclaimer at the end: I have no idea if this is a good way to do it and as I am tiping this comment I didnt even finish reading it in the first place. So I cant give you any hints about the solution, it´s all just my guess and how I´m going to do it. Feel free to tell me how your idea was.
