Quick note: Fujifilm loaned me the GFX 100 ii for about a month, which is not a lot of time. I had a few challenges with that limited amount of time with a camera like this. I was neck-deep in an edit for a client, and I had to spend my own money to book a few spaces for some testing, but I could not pass up the opportunity to get this camera in my hands. All that being said, this video is a mix of a first impression and nip picking at a few things because this system is very familiar coming from the xh2s. Enjoy!
Great video as usual. Interesting to hear the X-H2s still ranks high in your view, after over a year. It would be the bomb if you could do an updated "best practices" video on using the X-H2s such as AF settings, day versus night settings for FLog2, recommended gear such as speed boosters, etc. Like a 2024 X-H2s guide on this popular camera. Re software features only available on the GFX (which look awesome), I've been using Fujifilm cameras for about a decade and one of the things that made me love them is they send all the new SW features they can to old cameras (think it's part of their philosophy, even when it might "eat" new sales etc). I'm super confident they are using the GFX to test the features in the real world before rolling them out to the XHS2 etc, basically. And very hyped about that, waveforms etc! So cool. Keep up the great work.
Bro. The stuff you’re shooting with these Fuji cameras is simply gorgeous. The colors and details are amazing but not too sharp yet, thank God not to soft. I’ve been shooting with Panasonic for many years and have loved their evolution. But everything you’re shooting possess the perfect balance of all of the qualities I want to experience in the next evolution of low budget, independent, narrative, film production which are completely indistinguishable from large scale films. I really wonder what “The Creator” would’ve looked like shot on an X-H2s 😂. Can’t wait to see your next original project.

Great review. But… about that EVF… get the tilt/swivel adapter. It transforms the shooting experience. Keep in mind, like you, I seldom use the EVF on my cameras for video. But with the GFX100 II, the tilt/swivel EVF is one of the main reasons to purchase this camera. FYI: I’ve owned the GFX100 II since launch. I also own the XH2S. Fujifilm needs to make a FX3 competitor based around the XH2S, that is compatible with the GFX100 II EVF. Give it built in eVNDs and they would not be able to keep them in stock. Keep it up, great stuff! As far as trickling down features, I’m betting all these features and more will appear in an upcoming Fujifilm cinema camera.
D-Pad: you can use the front and rear dials, I find those much faster to use than the D-Pad, tbh. Front dial: flip through pages Rear dial: scroll 1 entry/row at a time Rear dial press: "ok" / select item.
It seems like some of these functions added to the GFX 100 ii is them publicly testing (mostly) new features on a camera that isn't their main flagship. Specifically regarding the tracking, they had two options to weigh: • Include the new but weak feature in the X-H2s and include a price hike, or • Exclude it entirely and keep the price lower. Is a bad feature with a price hike included better than not having that feature at all and reducing cost? As someone who recently purchased the X-H2s for video, think they made the right choice by keeping tap to track out. I'm also very practiced in using manual focus and auto-focus appropriately depending on the situation, so more enhanced tracking isn't a priority for me.

i'm thinking about this camera not as the second version of the GFX100 but the first version of a whole new approach to digital MF technology. imagine where this same tech will be in like 5 years?
There are loads of full frame and classic 35mm lenses that cover the sensor including the Helios 58mm 44-2 f2, along with more modern lenses like Canon 85mm f1.2 and several Sigma lenses. This means I can use some of my Canon EF lenses and whole bunch of classic lenses and interchange them between different cameras.
as a photographer (who also does a bit of video...) it's my dream to have this camera. I'd like to know though, what speedbooster do you use on your XH2S? Which brand? And to mount a PL lens, do you use a speedbooster too? I love your videos, they make me want to get out there and shoot.
Thanks for watching this! I have a “Getting started” XH2s video you should watch. But to answer your question I've used the meta bones LOCKING EF to Xmount speed booster. I use a pass through PL to xmount for Wooden camera. You don't need a PL speed booster to mount PL lenses.

Just finished watching it. Thank you so much for making this content! GFX100 II is an awesome tool. Here's my points after what I learned from your video. The X-H2s would greatly benefit from video tools such as waveform, false color, vector scope, and recording indicators on the screen. I am not sure why Fujifilm holding us back on that when GH6 (Micro 43) provides it. Since I am color blind to red/green, relying on a light bulb from back of camera doesn't help. I want this recording indicator on screen. On the topic of focus Tracking AF, the X-T2 seems to behave similarly as it doesn't consistently track objects other than human subjects. Tapping on the screen is required to adjust the focus box for the walking subject. Having AI Focus Profiles for different subjects like cars, trains, birds, etc., provided by Fujifilm are the reason it existed. In photo mode, having the Focus Meter from Focus Aid Menu in Photo mode would be useful tool for manual focusing with both vintage and modern lenses. Finally, the lack of D-pads on the GFX 100 II might be disappointing since they are useful for navigating menus. Instead, you would have to use the front command wheel to scroll up and down. I think HLG mode has more dynamic range than F-LOG/F-LOG2.... Anyway, Keep it up!! 🙌

It's actually been added to the x.H cameras now and the xt5..touch to focus .. At the end of the day, not many people are going to bar this camera for the video specs. It's too big and bulky and heavy for generalised video when you can get a much smaller camera that can do pretty much exactly the same thing as for photography, it's brilliant in fact, I would love to see the make a gfx camera that doesn't have any video in an at all.
By far the coolest camera I don't actually want, and no one should get for video. You're right that Fujifilm would make a killer professional cine camera, but I'm not holding my breath.
Awesome intro and review! Very tempting... Do you or any folk reading this know when recording 8k 24p Prores Raw to a Ninja V+ if it's also cropping as it does for internal recording? It's impossible to tell from Fuji or Atomos' info, just that it does record 8k PRR up to 29.97 fps. But nothing about how much of the sensor it's using.
I like the idea of the option for the red box on the X-H2S for those that want it - but honestly, having used the X-T5 I find the red box distracting and I don't want it while filming.
Crazy dope breakdown and review per usual. I share the same sentiments about the X-H2S and most of the changes that’s needed for it can be down through firmware. It just baffles me.

When I had a fuji camera, the only drawback I remember was the insipid grain pattern when shooting slow motion. Long, wide, distracting lines. Does this camera have the same problem? I know it was addressed in the xh2s
@@CineDailies very true, I’m just wondering if the lidar will “fix” the slow sensor reading by adjusting the lens at a more acceptable speed than the camera itself can do natively with auto focus. If it can minus the rolling shutter it may make it closer to a perfect hybrid

There are so many options but most videos about anamorphic lenses is for sony full frame shooters. Do you have an advice please?
xh2s를 출시된후 100회 이상 flog2 프로레스로 촬영한 사람입니다. 지난주에 gfx1002를 빌려서 써봤는데 칼라그레이딩이 가장 궁금했고 결론은 칼라그레이딩이 좀거 쉽게 진득하게 잘 되고 좀더 올가닉하다 입니다. dr도 좋은게 확실하구요. 새로나온 gf렌즈와 같이 썼는데 xf 50mm 1.0과 비슷한 af이더군요. 실망.. 전에 캐논 R5 8k RAW로 장편영화 찍었는데 칼라그레이딩에서 그것보다 더 좋은것 같아요. 장편 영화나 큰 프로젝트 찍을 때는 xh2s보다 확실히 좋습니다. 그런데 이건 제즉자 입장이구요. 클라이언트 몇명한테 보여줬는데 가격을 듣고는 그냥 xh2s그냥 쓰고 소고기 사먹으라고 하네요. ㅎㅎ 펌업 업데이트가 이번에 많이 된다고 해서 기쁘긴한데 품질문자라 저에겐 큰 감흥이 없습니다.

I fell out of love with Fujifilm tbh. They still produce a beautiful image, but they make some questionable desicions, like giving all the features to GFX and forgetting about the XH2S (tfw Nikon has waveforms and XH2S doesn't). Fuji used to have a reputation for best firmware support, but it seems like they lost it.

Not yet but the lidar has nothing to do with the camera you use. Rather the lenses you use

장편 영화나 큰 프로젝트 찍을 때는 xh2s보다 확실히 좋습니다. 그런데 이건 제즉자 입장이구요. 클라이언트 몇명한테 보여줬는데 가격을 듣고는 그냥 xh2s그냥 쓰고 소고기 사먹으라고 하네요. ㅎㅎ

Just thinking that wouldn’t the gfx camera have gotten better image quality if you’d used a Fuji lens on it instead of a third party lens?
Heck no LOL not to dog you but there are far “better” lenses than native gfx lenses.
Also, I'm guessing you're commenting on the anamorphic footage? Yeah it's super soft..thats the character.

Awesome review on this camera. I wish you had the chance to test the low light capabilities of the camera I would have loved to see that.
Thanks for watching. I personally don't do a ton of low light filmmaking, so it's normally not part of my testing.

I fell out of love with Fujifilm tbh. They still produce a beautiful image, but they make some questionable desicions, like giving all the features to GFX and forgetting about the XH2S (tfw Nikon has waveforms and XH2S doesn't). Fuji used to have a reputation for best firmware support, but it seems like they lost it.
Yeah not sure what's going on. The xh2s can totally handle it.

The Hasselblad X2D's colors destroys this camera . This is just a hype video.
Does the x2d have videos features? No.
@CEEPMDEE Hasselblad didn’t want money from hybrid shooters. That said, I’m almost always shooting Raw or Log… So colors are decided in post.
