Lumber futures closed at $695.30 per 1000 board feet today; up $200 per 1000 bf since November 1st. Keeping you updated Ken, thanks for the great video!
Love to see what you're up to from time to time.. The only thing I would never do is square the J like that.. 45 looks way better.. Either way.. Have a great day
By the way Ken, you're doing great! Cant wait to start building, I get so excited every day I check for a new video or even an old one, if no one else has said it, the way you teach inspires and encourages me. Could you do a question and answer video. I would like to ask if you could show step by step how from start to finish the measuring part of building the foundation and forms etc...start to finish. How or where to place j bolts in the beams.... Do you ever use blueprints and if so could you do a garage explaining how to read a blueprint. Curious Watcher... Thanks for all you do in explaining things. Joy to watch you and Chad.
I watched a few vids and I like yours the best with the top piece first and less seems. How did you bend the aluminum? I did a google search and nothing pre-bent comes up
When you hammer nails, it sounds like a burst from a machine gun. When I try to nail that fast, I make a mess of my board and bend my nails. You must have super powers. :-)
Wouldn’t doing the sides first and having a flap the top will cover be better in case water gets behind it somehow? I’m about to do my door in the next couple days. Thanks for the video.
Yes! You are spot on. Everything on the outside of a house should “shingle downwards such that water sheds down and away without being trapped. By the same logic he should have slid the flashing above the door up under the house sheathing. Good catch.
This time of year... Merry Christmas to the Carpenters! Jesus made a table in Passion of the Christ. Being a material kinda guy I thought, "what's that table worth today"; lol! The most venerated object of all time!
I'm a big fan of your work and youtube channel. I'm sure you're asked about traveling alot. I'm in northern part of ga and was wondering if you knew of any contractors down hear that you would recommend to build me a 2 car detached garage?
I wish my 50 year old home had all these protections from elements. The only positive i see is the redwood lumber is holding well behind the stucco, surprisingly.
Is the cost increase supply and demand or is it the devaluation of the dollar with all the money that has been printed lately? Seams like everything is more expensive.
Ive argued this with wiss forever but the red snips are actually lefts, not rights. I would think red=right but its not. Ive carried 4 pairs of snips in my bag for 30 years. Right straight and offset and left straight and offset. You cant do metal work without them all. Given the price of your coil stock its interesting you havent switched to PVC sheet (royal, azek, permatex) on the jamb faces of garage doors. The trim coil gets so beat up there over time the PVC seems a lot nicer especially if you can run extruded instead of ripped material (extruded finished edges and sides)

Super helpful. Thanks for sharing!
Great video, I have learned so much from you. Thank you!

Ken, In a world of woefully undersized garages with tiny doors that barely fit a small car, this full-size garage is a sight for sore eyes!
Haha yes
Very nice work Ken!
Thanks for watching
Straight tin snips cut strait real well too. Left and Right are made for cutting curves.
Love how both of you can nail so fast 😂😂😂
Haha the illusion

Haha you nailed it!
Haha yes
Thanks Ken. FYI I see left handed hammers on sale this week only, Amazon. Peace.
2 for the price of one? :)
You make it look easy. I wish I could do this, just had hail damage. So my vertial pieces are bent at the bottom from the concrete heaving.
Honest question. Why did you do the top piece before the sides. If the sides were up 1st, wouldn't it be harder for water to get in the seam
The sides tuck under the top
95$ roll here in iowa, man has that stuff got thin over the years. I do the sides first then the top
Yes that’s what it used to be

Great....I needed that! Jim
PS......how about the same but with brick partially and vinyl siding, using pvc!
Sure
I get phone calls informing me that my car warranty is about to expire. I drive a '01 suburban. Never had a warranty.😂

Nice job as always

Sorry I don’t really know anyone around there. Hope your project goes well

Nice
God bless you🙏🏼
Thanks same to you
Posting to help grow the channel. Thank you.
Thanks a bunch
Thanks
Do people trim with wood around doors anymore. I was going to do wood around mine, is there a reason for no wood, thanks in advance.
tricky hammer move!
Haha
Damn when I was doing windows and doors a roll was $75. I remember 3 tab shingles being $19 a bundle
Do you build in W CT btw?
Sorry we don’t travel that far

The building season started off with COVID and it’s been crazy since.
👍👍😎✌️
and dont use pressure treated?,like i did,,,ate up the aluminum, ended up using that plastic board

Here, a roll of metal was $187 a roll "forever", now it's $300.
Tell me, do you ever have any problems with hand tools you being left handed?
Yes occasionally. :)
❤️👍 Serbia
I guess your helpers don't get a free hoody jacket . they have to buy one I guess
Haha
Nails and aluminum should be banned in this country.
👍
