Wawa's Beetle Gets BIG Upgrades! After Being Parked For 23+ Years!

  • So my 14 year old daughter bought her dream car, this 1971 VW Beetle and since it has been parked for at least 23 years it basically needs everything rebuilt in the brake, electrical, and fuel system so that's what we are going to start doing in this video. Can she get this car back on the road for the first time in years, and have it ready in time for her to get her license?

Great job Wawa! I can't wait to see you behind the wheel cruising in the car YOU helped bring back to life! There's a certain sense of pride you get knowing that YOUR time and energy put that car back on the road. Reminds me of my first vehicle- a 1970 Datsun pickup. It needed all new brakes, a clutch and a few other odds & sods before it was driveable but to this day it is my most fondly remembered car because of the work I put into it. It was still just a beater, but it was MY beater! I hope this Beetle does the same for you!

I enjoyed Part 1 and cannot wait for Part 2. I grew up as the youngest of four children and the only girl so my heart is so touched by Wawa being right in the middle with her parents and siblings in the garage. These are also my fondest memories from my childhood! As girls/women, we may not have the hand strength to grip and "wrench" like the guys but we can get our little hands into places the big guy hands can't. Keep on keeping on Wawa! You have skills that most girls/women will never have and it is yours for life! 🎉❤👍

Such great family time. It is great to see a dad taking time to teach the kids how to work on old cars, especially Wawa's first car. I would, however, make sure that the kids wear safety glasses when working on the brake springs. My cousin lost an eye when a brake spring let go while installing brakes. It would be heartbreaking to have any of the kids suffer such an injury.

Old VW owner (my car is old not me) tip: keep an eye on the rust. It might be ok now but when rust starts to appear you need to get rid of it fast. Also keep an eye on the light bulbs. They always seem to burn out.

That the one thing I like about Tennessee. Our climate is really nice for preserving cars. I rarely see any with significant rust issues.

Well done Wawa you did a great job and there is nothing better than working on your own car you get to learn now it works and a real sense of achievement
And if the lift was a bit lower you could have got those brake retaing clips in a lot easier
Love watching you all work together and having fun doing it 😊

I just want to say that I'm glad WaWa was wearing her safety glasses for this job especially installing the springs in the drums. I say that, because yesterday I was doing the exact same thing without glasses. I was using needle nose pliers to pull the spring to the hook point and the pliers slipped. I was straining pretty hard and the pliers flew around and hit me in the eye. I was fortunate that it only tore the white part of my eye and not the Cornea. I will be dropping antibiotics for 2 weeks to prevent infection. Learn from me! I recommend the glasses be Z87 rated, which is evident by that code being molded into the frame of the glasses somewhere. I had safety glasses within arm's length but assumed the job wasn't worthy of them. I'm old, but still learning. Even if it is the hard way most times.

Incredible video. I can’t believe how into the world of dirt and grease Wawa has gotten, and loving it.
She and Ralphie make very apt students under Josh’s tutelage. Mom also joined the fun.

Man, what an amazing family to see everyone involved in the repair, sometimes even the animals are around 😂. But most importantly, it's the quality family time being spent together and at the same time, both parents are teaching their kids valuable life skills lessons. I am just in awe of the family's respect for one another even when situations are stressful. That is what the world needs, peace, love, and tolerance. A huge high five to these two parents, they are doing an amazing job raising their kids. We can all learn from that......... remember we not too old learn. Thank you for these wonderful videos. From a cold winter South Africa.
