Downward prop wash can also kick up debris into the tail rotor. Sloped ground right behind the skids, like this pilot did, deflects the air sideways and reduces risk of an object from the ground causing a tail rotor strike.
So many different types of missions and reasons for doing things. I always find it fascinating. Curious what machine you’re flying and what type of missions?
I am wondering if that helo had a mech problem and couldn’t fly away from there… the pilot can’t walk down, he/she must call another helo ok but how to repair it if the problem is important ???
I’ve spent my entire career working very remote locations. In this case, there’s plenty of room for another helicopter, but I’m also prepared to camp at all times.
@@HeliPilotLeigh Yeah. Most of crashed I saw were they on way to landing like at wedding site and emergency site. I had a feeling that helicopter simulator may don't have "overhead wire". I need to be on habit to picture myself looking for wire before landing. Maybe I can post my idea on MSFS forum about dangerous of overhead. to keep players on their toes.
I think the Helicopter Flying Handbook lists the reason as "It looks dope as hell"
By golly, now that you mention it, I remember reading that now!! Hahaha, totally!!!
keeps pax from walking into it, and keeps it from hitting stuff.
Nise Voise Over 🥰 Thanxs for the Info! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Thank you!
Love flying Alaska ❤❤❤
The best, right!?
Great explanation....thanks 😊
Most welcome!😊
Short and sweet. Love it
Thank you!
I did it to keep crew members from walking into it !! Not very pretty.

So many reasons to hang that tail!🙌
That’s such a cool shot and area! Where is that?
Thank you! This is Valdez, Alaska
I don't often do that, as I want to check it before next flight. A simple 90* and have best of both worlds.

Yes Ma'am. Also I think about how difficult seeing overhead wire as I already watch video of helicopter crashed due to overhead wire.
wires are a major hazard for aircraft. You'd think we would all fly higher, right?

What's up with the hole in the ice?
In this video? Maybe you are referring to the exposed rock with waterfall? I’ve got other videos with lots of glacier holes.
I'm 64-years-old, my tail's been hangin' for years. 😆
Hahahaha
@@HeliPilotLeigh your reply "Hahahaha" with add word line under it as it said "Translate to English" 🤣
