The psion wasn't JUST a psion. It was Caiatl's best friend after Umun'Arath's betrayal of the Cabal. She needed to confide in someone else, and her psion friend was the only one who she could share secrets with. This is why Saladin was so surprised that there was no malice in connecting minds with the psion, because the psion revered Caiatl to the point where her will to stand as equals resonated with the psion and proved that Saladin could trust Caiatl even after all the tension of the flimsy armistice.
"Mercy" cutscene is one of my favorites. It perfectly showcases why Saladin is so rigid in his beliefs. As an Iron Lord, he saw some of the most depraved shit the humanity was capable of during the Dark Age.
Fun fact:the boss at 7:41 "Mor'ak" is heavily implied to be hive equivalent of hunter vanguard commander, meaning that lucent brood is also lacking hunter leader now.
In the Vox Obscura mission, Caiatl mentioned that one of the images broadcast by the rebel Psions of the future was “a ship-stealer revived.” Back when she was a Baroness in the House of Devils, Eramis was known as the Shipstealer. How about we just shatter that Eliksnicle before anyone tries anything?
This season essentially takes place in parallel to the witch queen. So as far as saladin knew at this time they were using corrupted not true light. 2 light stealer is the name cause they are strolling the light from us guardians to use in their experiments. Like the stored light in savathunes labs back in the throne world. The hive DO have the light. But there also still doing hive things to our light like savathunes brood has always done
The gaurdians enemies have been able to drain them of their light for sometime. Its not necessarily a "steal it and use it" but rather removing it from the gairdians to make them vulnerable. Savathun did this during the red war and vex did this with saint
Loved this season. Saladin's story is probably my second favorite of the black and white cutscenes. Really puts into perspective why he was such a hard-ass back during Season of the Chosen, but it also shows that he's not completely inflexible in his beliefs. This season really cemented why I love Saladin.
"Lightstealer" is both a religious term for how it's viewed (at the time) that the Lucent Hive stole the ability to use the Light somehow. Savathun's memories confirm they were chosen. But it also denotes the fact that the Hive can drain Light and make Guardians easier to kill like in the Savathun's Song strike from D2 Red War (on Titan). Also i cannot WAIT for you see Haunted it's probably a top 5 season for me.
Saladin, is a character, that hides under this vanier of ruff and gruffness, a broken yet warm heart, that i think hes afraid to open up to people, thats why in Iron lords dlc, he sees you avenging his people and opens up to you with a smile and warmness
Him and Drifter are actually quite alike in that regard, both covering up empathy and compassion with stoicism/callousness because of experienced trauma. It's not a coincidence that the two of them are some of my favorite characters in Destiny lol
@@tarakolindo Tbh, I don't regret getting another copy of D1 for my Series X during Collective con, and got the Dlc with it, I haven't played Iron Lord before then and when I did play it, it made me understand him even more, making him a top favorite of mine, I still consider Taken King my favorite dlc but, iron lords is up there now
Something to know is that in the Cabal Rites of Proving aboard Caiatl's ship, Saladin didn't once use the light or his ghost or the healing from it. He won those fair and square, raw weapons and strength.
Before crow killed the psion in a lore book from that season it shows his actions in helm while we were on the moon, he wanted to take the psion to eat ramen
Also, when Saladin says "I was given a wish and chose to fight a dragon" its not only a metaphor but its also literal, during the great hunt he fought a ahamkara that turned into a regular dragon
18:06 i LOVE that u caught onto that, as the Witness is involed or referenced it's motifs plays, u missed this but in Season of Arrivals, many themes of the planets that the Pyramids were on changed to sound as if they were "corrupted". Much like how the Witness corrupts other with it's influence through the Darkness
8:00 happened in Savathun's Song, old strike. 9 guardians had the light ripped out of them and converted into crystals. We talked to one of them over the course of the strike, but only way to disrupt the hive ritual was to overcharge it. RIP Taeko-3.
Please also play the dungeon Duality when you go about season of the haunted. It really adds to the story As for Saladin, he and Drifter show what it means to live this long. Saladin had to become ruthless to not be exploited since he was in a higher position of power, so he had to care less. The more people he met, the less it mattered to him. Drifter tried to survive as the underdog the entire time, never knowing who to trust, therefore having to live in fear and trying to get on alone. Both show what immortality can do to a person, I like that it is shown here aswell I also love that in future Lore to come, you can always see a context from Caiatls and Saladins side, as they grew quite fond of each other. Saladin finally having something to focus on, becoming more caring again, Caiatl seeing how much experience he has gone through and coming to the understanding that Saladin is quite the asset and respects him deeply for his contributions and said experiences. I think this was a big step toward Caiatl understanding us better and forged a bond unable to be broken. Ever Also context is important, these developments don't happen in an hour, these take weeks. While nowadays it kinda becomes stale, it helps to flesh out changes, since there is more time and growth Also oh boy, these Psionic predictions sure are something...
41:35 - read the lore tab for the Handcannon Survivor's Epitaph that came out with Season of the Splicer. Saladin didn't do it, by contrast to another certain Warlord all Guardians tend to revere.
It’s easily the best first season of any expansion year, for sure. So much great lore that both expands on The Witch Queen itself and also continues fleshing out secondary characters like Saladin and Caiatl.
1:02:45 during the great hunt saladin fought an ahamkara that granted his wish to fight a literal fire breathing dragon. As he said because 'we are what we survive'
1:03:00 It really was a wish, during the Great Hunt of the Ahamkara. He said something along the lines of "All knights wish to become dragonslayers" when accosted by Efrideet for making their battle more difficult.
I’m interested in seeing the reactions for stuff that is in this most recent year. I also look forward to watching your reactions to the next three seasons because they are pure GOLD
A big problem with watching this cutscene is that it takes place at least after the first mission of Witch Queen. You shouldn't have walked in their because you gun down at least 40 cabal soldiers trying to get onto Savathun's ship, which is where you see the hive risen using those shields.
Definitely another good season, always love getting more dark age lore. To answer some of your questions at the start: the reason for all the "corrupted light" talk and whatnot is because this season is technically occuring at the same time as the witch queen campaign, whereas past seasons could be thought of as occurring after their respective dlc campaigns. That lightbearer knight Zavala shows in the hologram at the start is the same one you found in the first witch queen mission, so while Ikora is studying findings on mars, Zavala was here discussing the psy-ops approach with Caiatl, and no one yet knew the truth about the hive lightbearers at this point. As for a heart-to-heart with crow.... Ohhhhhhhh boy are you in for a hell of a season next up, especially if you thought you cried a lot in this one :)
There’s some lore that shows interesting interacts between hive ghosts and lucent hive. For example a ghost that believes in the sword logic that gets angry at its hive light-bearer after it lets the ghost of a guardian it killed go. Another is a hive light earring that keeps killing itself because it hates the light only for a peppy ghost to keep reviving it determined to be friends, kinda cute and kinda morbid.
If you loved Risen, the next one is gonna be a banger, Season of Splicer easily takes the cake on my favourite season due to the activities and aesthetic, ontop of the alliance with the Eliksni being such a huge W. But the next one is my favourite for story, no spoilers though!
You know I think seeing you experience this story is making it hit me harder than it did when I played it myself. Perspective is cool like that. I think you’re going to like the seasons to come a lot. It gets even better from here (in my opinion). And yes I feel like Crow’s story is the embodiment of angst and hurt/comfort themes lol
The creepy Motif that plays when the pyramids are mentioned is actually part of the general "darkness" motifs, it's kinda woven into some of the soundtracks, be on the lookout in the future soundtracks ig ^-^
I really really emplore you react to the Duality Dungeon dialogue, especially the collectable dialogue. Once you complete react to the next season of course. Lets just say if you want more on Calus Duality is a feast of lore.
both is true, savathuns hive have drained guardians of light and stolen it since the red war at the very least, the ghosts still chose their hives and raise them as lightbearers edit: i realized that's still confusing: those are two seperate things, the light they wield is their own, the stolen light is used for rituals
Idk if anyone else has mentioned it but the begining seems weird with misinformation from the vanguard because this season is supposed to be happening at the same time as witch queen so they don't have the info that the traveler chose the hive yet.
I didn't actually know that the first season in an expansion happens concurrently with the main campaigns release! This makes a lot of the early conversation make a lot more sense, thank you!
the seasonal activity/battlegrounds from this season, as well as some activities from other seasons, got turned into strikes so if you're lucky you'll get them in the strike playlist
Ana had been working on figuring out how to bring Rasputin back to life, this season (i think) confirmed that he was still alive and dormant inside an engram, on the Grand Overture exotic you can get during this season.
Something that isnt well explained here is that the events of the season happen alongside the WQ campaign. Thats why we are talking like we dont know what the hive are really doing (as we are finding out in real time in the campaign while we fight here)
4:40 nah that’s a D1 track. From the taken kings first cutscene where the ghost explains his journey before u. I’m assuming the one ur talking about is “Kings Decent” on the OST, the lightblade intro from the witch queen campaign (that one’s also super nice). That mars missions is filled with D1 music and a d1 location.
This season takes place before you defeat Savathun. And the Lucent Hive Lightbearers both have ghosts AND kill Guardians and harvest their light. The regular Hive have had the ability to drain light since the beginning during all the moon content in Destiny 1. They can drain it, eat it or store it, and use it in dark rituals. The Lucent Hive who have been chosen by ghosts have their own light, but Savathun has been granting some manner of light to even non-lightbearer hive and has been using it to power certain things in the Throne World that the Wellspring alone cannot. Compared to the... "Dark" Hive, the Lucent Hive can do even more things with the Light from Guardians because they have their own Light too.
The first season of an expansion and expansion itself chronologically take place at the same time. So early in this season is supposed to be taking place at the same time as the events of the witch queen campaign
To address some of the confusion at the beginning. The season launched simultaneously with the witch queen expansion so those first few missions and dialogue are all misinformed. The characters don’t know the truth yet so Saladin says their light is corrupted or that they stole the light cause they don’t know yet. Also, I was on the same boat regarding the absence of Rasputin. Don’t worry, IMO his season is the strongest of the 4 seasons in the witch queen expansion. You just gotta be patient till you get to it
I dont see it yet, and im "officially" too late but this was the season that released the same time as witch queen so the stories ran parellel to each other, that's why we still think the hive stole the light
Hive collecting guardian light has always been a thing. Think back to titan and the void light. This time they can wield the light not just use it in their rituals. Or that’s how I made sense of all this.
Crow be like:"Uhm I feel so bad for billion year old genociders so I'm gonna kill this completely innocent dude that got sent to us by space warmongers as a sign of good will whose whole race was enslaved, seems about right!"
In his defense, he didn’t know it would kill the psion. He was just trying to turn the machine off. Still a bad call and ignorance certainly isn’t an excuse, but
Yeah, it was absolutely the wrong call. He didn't mean to kill the psion but could have stopped to ask literally anyone what would happen. He's just a little too empathetic for his own good. 🥺
If you thought this was emotional wait till you get to season of the haunted aka season of emotional damage also I lol'd at "you can't deep stone lullaby me right now"
Yes you weren’t around for this but the hive can drain us of our light, in the witch queen at the very beginning they mentioned it too, a reference to an old mission about Void Light 🤭 They definitely have drained guardians of light in the past and used it as power sources
48:50 "This season hurts, dude, my little heart!" Oh buddy, if you think it hurts now... 😭 Also, part of me wishes you'd shown a counter for every time you said "House of Wolves" when you meant "Rise of Iron" 😂
Typically the first season of a year tends to be not great? Being paired with expansion release it means the content is small and treated as a side to the main dish - Undying with Shadowkeep was pretty bad. Hunt with Beyond Light was CARRIED by Crow's writing and the Hawkmoon quest, since the new gameplay added was effectively FF14 FATEs crossed with tiny lost sectors. Risen? An amazing story that rivals the best, and the new content was also pretty darn good. Two cutscenes was all it took to turn Saladin from one of the blandest characters in the story to... well, you watched em. Opinion on him 180'd. If you've not already recorded it, you're gonna love Haunted. Some of the strongest character writing put out in the entire game.

He's just a grumpy old man with a kind soul, and I was judging him way too harshly this and previous seasons. 😭
It didn't show, but on the War Table, the gift Saladin left Crow was his axe and pendant (like the one he gave to the girl).
Fun fact:the boss at 7:41 "Mor'ak" is heavily implied to be hive equivalent of hunter vanguard commander, meaning that lucent brood is also lacking hunter leader now.
Ironic
and he was ressurected in Ghost of the Deep
In the Vox Obscura mission, Caiatl mentioned that one of the images broadcast by the rebel Psions of the future was “a ship-stealer revived.” Back when she was a Baroness in the House of Devils, Eramis was known as the Shipstealer. Eliksnicle Im dead 😂💀

SAME. It wasn't character growth even though it looked like it. This is just who he always was, and it was so beautiful to see. 😭
"Lightstealer" is both a religious term for how it's viewed (at the time) that the Lucent Hive stole the ability to use the Light somehow. Savathun's memories confirm they were chosen. Hilarious when you realise the same person does both their voices. :)
I guess you could say they see mouth to mouth eh?

38:30 Worth noting that Saladin allowed himself to be put under himself, to experience what the Hive were going through.

The darkness/witness motifs in the music are always so good! Love the remixes of older tracks that have it mixed in.
The song that played in the HELM near the beginning of the video is "Remembrance" from The Taken King C:
Definitely another good season, always love getting more dark age lore.

Kinda weird to think about the fact that the first mission of the Witch Queen is us just murdering our allies until we get on Savathun´s ship😂

Ngl, it's sounding more like "rizzin" with Crow in the mix.
It's coming, you guys. He's almost at the Season of Emotional Damage.
You're not going to be okay xD
That cutscene hit me hard on the feels but wait until season of the haunted there is a cutscene which is even more heartbreaking 😢
This season takes place before you defeat Savathun. And the Lucent Hive Lightbearers both have ghosts AND kill Guardians and harvest their light.

Bruh I'm so hyped for you to watch season of the haunted
All I have to say... "Honey, you got a big storm coming"
THE WAY I WHEEZED AT THIS COMMENT 🤣
You are NOT ready for the emotional damage of next season
Hive collecting guardian light has always been a thing. Think back to titan and the void light. This time they can wield the light not just use it in their rituals. Or that’s how I made sense of all this.
Next season is gonna be good
Crow be like:"Uhm I feel so bad for billion year old genociders so I'm gonna kill this completely innocent dude that got sent to us by space warmongers as a sign of good will whose whole race was enslaved, seems about right!"
In his defense, he didn’t know it would kill the psion. He was just trying to turn the machine off. Still a bad call and ignorance certainly isn’t an excuse, but

If you thought this was emotional wait till you get to season of the haunted aka season of emotional damage
also I lol'd at "you can't deep stone lullaby me right now"
If you thought you would cry this season the next one will destroy you.
Yes you weren’t around for this but the hive can drain us of our light, in the witch queen at the very beginning they mentioned it too, a reference to an old mission about Void Light 🤭
They definitely have drained guardians of light in the past and used it as power sources
48:50 "This season hurts, dude, my little heart!"
Oh buddy, if you think it hurts now... 😭
Also, part of me wishes you'd shown a counter for every time you said "House of Wolves" when you meant "Rise of Iron" 😂
oh man....if this broke you wait until season of the haunted.
Bros heart is not going to survive these next few seasons😭
Who gunna tell him about the Moon season?
Typically the first season of a year tends to be not great? Being paired with expansion release it means the content is small and treated as a side to the main dish - Undying with Shadowkeep was pretty bad. Hunt with Beyond Light was CARRIED by Crow's writing and the Hawkmoon quest, since the new gameplay added was effectively FF14 FATEs crossed with tiny lost sectors. Risen? An amazing story that rivals the best, and the new content was also pretty darn good.

Say what you want about Saladin but his voice is 10/10
Saladine the goat
POG
If you think season of the risen broke you, haha wait until you react to haunted
first
Every season from now on is pure gold. Im especially looking forward to your season of the Seraph reaction 🫡
