    I have seen so many people reacting to Bollywood but the way you analyse, describe, relate and articulate is amazing. People just look for the grandeur, or costumes, or how dashing/beautiful the person on screen is, but you deeply observe the content, theme, plot(before starting the video, which makes sense and is important btw and reactors who don't do that ends up laughing in the end. Dude you can't judge a piece without a pretext). This is why you're my favourite.

    Great reaction, sir! As a Scottish guy who also loves Bollywood and the visual beauty of these movies and the music, I am a huge fan of Aishwarya and appalled that this movie was a flop. This song is so astonishingly emotional, you just don't need to translate the lyrics. Try Ek toote huye dil ki from the same movie. Well done for highlighting the sheer beauty of Indian cinema

    A lot of people say that she didn’t do justice to this role in comparison to rekha ji, but really is that so? Look at the emotion in her face, this movie was wonderfully done. Both actresses are very talented in their generation. I can’t even listen to this song without crying because of how powerful her performance was in this song alone. Thank you for being so candid and honest in your reaction.

    Goodness me... I enjoyed this so much, I had to watch it twice. The first time my eyes were flooded ugh...she did an outstanding job conveying those deep sorrowful emotions. Love the reaction as usual. Don't know what you did differently to your hair but I'm loving the more relaxed, slightly messy look, very nice.

    I can feel the sadness though I don't really get the point of what it speaks about. Overall how the scene made and how the actress acts are A+, they can make the audience feel the sadness as well. It also reminds me of Barbara Streisand's singing, in which able to make the listener tuned in to the song's emotion 🙂

    Umrao Jaan is a real story she died in 1937 in Lucknow and a song named 'justaju jiski thi usko to na paya hamne' from the old Umrao Jaan movie was originally written by herself you should check the old one that was very close to originality

    This was set at the time when it was hindustan 🇵🇰🇮🇳🇧🇩. The desi/south asian muslim culture is so beautiful. Umrao jaan is an Urdu novel and the first Umrao jaan movie was the Pakistani movie Umrao Jaan Ada 1972 starring pakistani actress Rani, and then bollywood made a remake starring rekha in 1981 which was clearly inspired by the pakistan one, and then bollywood made another remake in 2006 starring Aishwarya Rai which also had maintained the same essence that was in the first movie

  • @starsimvidz
    @starsimvidz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    This is actually not a particularly defining role in Aishwayra Rai's career. This film ended up being a mostly underwhelming and overlooked remake of the "Umrao Jaan" film made in the 1980s. That one is iconic, and is a defining role of the great actress Rekha,

    Audience wasn't humbled but felt ashamed because they were humiliating her right before the song. She was performing in her hometown(her birth place) that's why she said that once who were friends are now strangers. Her own family refused to accept her as a courtesan + prostitute even after knowing that she was kidnapped and pushed into it.

    True story

  • @shabnumtv9097
    @shabnumtv9097 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This song is testimony to Aishwarya's poweful acting, to humanise the misogynistic practices of the time; however, the clips that intersperse the song are a somewhat ham-fisted attempt to hold up a mirror to society (and the audience), whereas this had not been given sufficient prominence for much of the film. That said, while Aishwarya is, as ever, a technically brilliant and expressive dancer, I don't believe this was her best performance, as it seemed a little too maudlin in places (it had none of the complexity she brought to Jodha Akbar or Devdas), and the chemistry between her and Bachchan was wooden (frankly, Rai outshines him in every scene). The film also drew unfavourable comparisons with Memoirs of a Geisha, which was released a little earlier.
    You compare this film to Devdas, but a better comparison may be made with 1959 masterpiece, Mughal-e-Azam, in which a prince (Dilip Kumar) and a dancer of the court (Madhubala) defy the will of the king in truly epic fashion. But it is Madhubala who adds weight to the film, and is in a class of her own, both for her dancing and her acting (all the more remarkable given her terminal illness and her very real suffering at the hands of the director). Compulsory viewing has to be Jab Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya; I love how she is able to make the other characters in this song uncomfortable with her every piercing glance.
    Teri Mehfil Mein is another brilliant song from this film, but may serve better as an example of traditional poetic duelling - usually the preserve of masters of classical music. Indeed, the lyrics are very pointed in their meaning, being laced with barbs as much as debating the nature of love, and these barbs are a powerful expression of the rivalry between the two singers. The cinematography is tight, focusing mainly on the two singers, to the point where the love interest is almost irrelevant, until the very end.
    Peerless.

    This is an old story retold in a new movie, the original movie was played by Bhanurekha Ganesan, Rekha. These stories are in fact strongly related to the demise of the post Mughal Indian Empire, stuff like this was the reason for the demise, it provided a chance to foreign companies to gain power and cunningly used the backing of the British Monarchy to seep into the areas of the country that were weakened in power due to immorality of royal members indulging into womanizing, gambling and drinking habits, maybe bad for the old India, but it eventually led to the rise of public and then the democratic freedom of the region in 1947 after almost 200 years. Regardless, it also sent out waves to the British Empire to start leaving the world alone, so most commonwealth nations got their freedom.

    How girls were abducted and taken to different cities and sold to these places. Here, these girls were forcefully made to learn dancing and singing. Rich people of that time used to come to relax and pay large some of money.

    This is in no comparison to the original iconic Rekha’s Umrao Jaan. In my opinion this one fell quite placid. Ashwaraya in my opinion has never been a credible actors, only a decorative piece. The only movie I thought she did well was Ham Dil De Chukke Sanam. You should review songs from that movie. Great cast and the story line was very good with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. The song in particular to review is Nibooda Nibooda, but all other songs are also good.
