Congrats! Glad to hear such a vehicle is still going strong. Must be on top of maintenance and vehicle care too. The Tahoe is engineered well as is, but it takes great people to keep them going strong.
84 monte carlo 305 lost count at 300,000 2 transmissions on 2nd radiator full 134a a/c conversion runs great and reliable. Rear seal has slight leak. When reads 1/2 quart low its it's time for an oil change. Perfect timing lol. Fuel injection installed 5 years ago.
Their truck and full size SUV line is still this reliable. Yes, even the new ones. It's their crappy cars and mid/small size SUV's you have to watch our for. But anything that's full frame/V8/rear wheel drive? They've got that engineering figured out.

@@thepatrioarchy I have had HUGE work done on cars in Nogales Sonora Mexico, because the quality of the work and the cost is much lower there. I'm like scotty; I only buy used vehicles. Current one is a 2003 Chevy Suburban 1500 Z71 with 304K miles. Transmission still shifts like butter, it runs like a top and no oil-burning issues as of yet.
I've got the same 07 Tahoe, same color, with 160,000. Just changed the oxygen sensors, shocks and struts and replace rear end gear oil. That truck has had 0 issues. I'll continue to drive it for years to come...
I just bought an old 07 Tahoe decent price, suspension was on its way out but shady tree mechanic replaced it for cheap, 87,000 original miles, did all clean fluids and plugs .
I’m at 267K with my 07 Tahoe. I just drove it 700 to visit family, no issues. I towed the biggest U-Haul trailer with no issues for 200 miles in the NY/PA mountains.
What a surprise, as soon as his older SUV rolled into their "stealership" they saw dollar signs and tried to soak him for $6000.00.... unbelievable!! 😒
I love my 06 trailblazer ext, with a 5.3 and I would never trade it for some new peice of crap, no matter who manufactured it!! Keep up the great work Scotty. I enjoy your honesty.
We have a 2008 GMC Yukon, she's a sweetheart of a truck. 155k on the clock, runs great! Had to replace a few minor things, alternator, water pump, and a fuel pump that was wreaked from salt corrosion. Other than that it runs great, we took it on a trip from WI to FL and got 19mpg on the interstate. For a big truck like that I'm impressed!
My family has a 2011 Yukon really a great truck got it with like 120,000 now has almost 240,000 and almost everything is original and we have beat it to death and it runs great had to replace the transmission at 210 ish but no complaint’s plenty of power and we tow often with it my favorite SUV
Scotty - I had a 2013 Avalanche 4wd that I bought new. I put a big 8" lift and 35 mud tires on it with 500 miles on it. I was religious with maintenance. I sold it in 2019 with 190k miles on the original engine and Trans. It ran like a top, even with the extra weight and stress of the lift, rims and heavy tires. Was checked out by a mechanic prior to sell and it got a big seal of approval. I miss that truck everyday.
@@TetraHydroCannabinolTHC nah they use the same engine and trans as the tahoe, atleast the second generation avalanche does, the second gen avalanche looks exactly the same as the tahoe from the front anyway so it makes sense
My wife and I just bought a 2014 lt Z71 tahoe with 48k on it. It is awesome. Drives amazing. Not a chevy guy but I definitely like this thing. build quality seems good.
@@richardchocha1513 I'm not sure about that. I would think so. The engine is different from the tahoe though. I believe the 13 had a 6.2 while the tahoes had the 5.3
This is the first time ive ever seen a LTZ w/o a Moonroof! That's definitively a special order. No way I'd have a sexy truck like that without one. They don't leak like the 80's cars. Hell I still have my 03 Escalade EXT w/ 250k mi. Still works like new and doesn't leak after 18 years.
Scotty is right about this SUV. I have a 2007 Avalanche I bought back in 2010 with 43,000 miles on it and now it is at 148,000 miles and it has been nothing but good. Routine maintenance and highway driving has done wonders. It is a great family of vehicles for that year with a great engine and transmission!
Thanks for sharing....we need to know. I am from a family with nothing but. But it's been awhile since. ..I always liked them and wondered if I should buy again....I think I will
The Avalanche doesn't have the AFM system on it being pre-2008, so you were fortunate to get a model without that failed system that can ruin your engine.
@@bernardd.partridge3152 They say the "07's don't have AFM. Let me know if you know when they added that feature. I usually look at the GMC Tahoe or Suburbans. I could get one, but my "01 is still reliable and adequate.
My 06 gmc has over 500,000 miles on it. Never replaced trans. Or motor. Transfer case was replaced at 300,000 miles. But it Runs perfect still strong. 6.0 vortech with the 4l80e is a real good set up.
I disabled the AFM/DOD on all of mine. I have a few 07-14 Tahoes. They all have well over 175K miles and 10K engine hours. Very few issues between them all. A radiator here, an oil pressure sensor there, shocks, an AC blower motor in one, but really minor stuff. I think maybe $2K max total in repairs in any one of them. For 10-15 year old trucks I have been very happy. My favorite vehicles.
Glad to see Scotty finally endorse a Tahoe. I have been running our 4 wheel drive 2012 for over 7 years now without any issues. It has 124k miles on the 5.3 cu in. It has no rust, no sunroof, and I have no interest in ever replacing it with a newer one. BTW, my wife drives her dad's 06 Camry, also a great car. I do the oil changes on all our vehicles, 2012 Tahoe, 2007 Camry and my much loved 1996 Ford F150 in-line 6.
To turn off the DOD in these, put on manual mode and set to the 4th-6th gear. That deactivates the system. I’ve used in my 11 Avalanche and just love the thing!!!!
Keeping the OLDER CARS that still run, Beats making a stupid car Payment. I haven’t made a car payment in [15] +Years. I’d rather pay off the house first.
My 03 Yukon Denali we’ve owned since new has never had the ac touched or charged and it still blows ice cold in the front and the rear. They don’t build them like they used to.
@@edge7587 i think it mostly comes down to how you take care of your vehicles, we even have a 2000 Audi A6 v8 since new that’s been totally reliable, only thing that has went wrong is the transmission at 100k miles and the airbag control module needs to be replaced due to corrupt programming.
Thank you Scotty for showing your opinion and information about the 3rd Generation Tahoes (07'-14'). Been saw your vids about the 2nd gen Tahoes (00'-06') I always wondered what you thought about the 2007-2014 models since you talked about the 4th generation (2015-2020) are not very reliable suvs, but finally you made one about 3rd generation. Always a pleasure seeing your vids and info keep it up and again thank you. Much love for ya Scotty!💯
I own a 07 Tahoe that I bought in 06 and today it has 111,570 miles. The only thing I'ved changed is the wear n tear things. Engine is smooth not loud at all...still running great! The dealer keeps wanting to buy it from me. I'm in Cali.
I have this truck with 250k on it and it has no problems.. Scotty2hotty knows his stuff a solid legend mechanic thank u for your expertise.!!!! Also toyota is the best. !!
I've got a 2004 chevy tahoe 5.3 4x4 with 301k miles on it. Original engine and transmission. Very well maintained. I'm currently getting 19.3 mpg. I plan on keeping it forever hopefully.
In 2016 I purchased a 2010 Tahoe LTZ 4*4 from a local dealer. I do all my own work, except auto transmissions.... I have done minor changes, TPS, alternator, brakes, shocks, headlights, driver's lower seat and foam. I have put on 120k miles, now at 190k. This Tahoe runs great, looks great. A new engine or transmission from an overpriced dealer is still a small fraction of a new Tahoe..... This SUV is a long term keeper.
I'm the 2nd owner of a 2008 K2500 suburban. 6.0 Eng is excellent. I'm pushing 258k miles and she still runs great! My family has grown so large that we are upping ourselves to a van, I'm looking at a 2017 Chevy 2500 because it still has the 6.0L eng and 6speed xmsn that I know and trust. It also will pull my trailer as needed, not to many large family vehicles out there that can carry a big group and tow.
I have a 07 Z71 Tahoe with sun roof. 230,000 miles. No leaks. Original transmission and engine. Had to have rear end work done. Oil pressure sending unit goes out every few years. My wife drives everyday, still gettin’ it!
I have a 2013 Tahoe RWD with @ 145,000 and the heavy duty tow package. It runs spectacularly, especially after I bought a DiabloSport Tuner to deactivate AFM and install the economy 87 octane tune. That tune gives a much, MUCH better throttle response and the truck is no longer sluggish during acceleration. Also, I no longer worry about an AFM lifter collapsing and destroying the engine... a $4000-5000 repair.
08 Tahoe LS in Blue Granite Metallic Just turned 290k and runs fantastic. Had her in 4 low earlier to get down a muddy trail. Nothing beats the turning radius of the Tahoe!! And with 320hp it doesn’t feel sluggish. Love this thing.
Hey Scotty you right they are good solid SUV’s I have an 2006 Tahoe and it’s has no rust on it and I have the same aluminum chrome wheels on mines.I have 462,000 on it and it still runs like a dream.
I Have a 2011 Chevy Avalanche with 114,000 miles and love it. Never no issues runs like new. I plan to keep it for ever until its considered a classic. Will put a new engine transmission when they wear down. The only thing I hate about these GM vehicles is the flimsy dashboards that crack and dry out out. I ended up putting a dash skin cover on my avalanche. Looks like oem and new and better cheaper alternative of replacing the whole dashboard. Surprised that Tahoe in video does not have no cracks.
I have a 2012 Tahoe Z71 in Massachusetts. It has all the features, retractable side steps, leathers, navigation, camera, 130K miles, plus a sweet DVD system. Runs great. Thinking of selling tho. But after this, maybe I'll keep it... Maybe
I have a 2007 tahoe ltz, 256,000 loaded interior. Absolutely love it looking for another cant explain how much I love this car, built tough 4 low, never got stuck up in southwestern Pennsylvania in the boonies. Hard to get stuck such a well built vehicle.
My 14 Yukon denali has 143k miles haven't replaced anything yet just tires and fluids pretty bulletproof and powerful . I did buy a device to turn off the AFM. The only bad thing about that generation yukon, tahoes was the dashboard they always crack.
I had an 07 LT Trim Tahoe 5 years ago and just bought an 07 LTZ Trim a day ago. Scotty I’ve still got the LT 3rd Row Seats original to the LT Tahoe if you’re interested. They’ve never been sat in and garage kept since I pulled them out of the LT Tahoe in 2019. They aren’t the leather the LTZ comes stock with but they are cloth in great shape. I’ll send pics if interested. If not, I understand. Great ride and happy to have come across mine a couple days ago as I knew I would own another Tahoe. This time I went LTZ Trim and no regrets! I appreciate you and your channel! You’re honest$$$ and a great example many Mechanics should follow. Stay Safe my friend…
I operate a 06’ GMC Savana work van. It has 230,000 miles on it and runs great, even with the shop owner ignoring oil changes, like 25,000 miles overdue. Before current truck I drove a 03’ GMC extended cab pick up that racked up 240,000 and never had a single repair done other that belt tensioner and a water pump and brakes. Personally own a 16 Sierra 4 door and love it.
I have the same Tahoe without 4 wheel drive just 2 wheel with 83,000 miles. And it's like brand new. I'm the 2nd owner. I got it from a 90 year old man. Never had a cigarette in it. Time capsule. I'm so jazzed about it. I payed $3500
I love my 2008 LT..I do have the bypass programmer to keep it V8 mode. It's about to roll 220,000 on original engine, transmission and other major parts.. runs like a new one if not better
I purchased a 07 Tahoe z71 with 152k miles for 4K great shape but lifter 6 was stuck i unstuck it installed the bypass module I have 159k miles now running super strong love the truck I own a 2019 Tundra TrdPro I haven’t drove it in a year I prefer to drive the Tahoe
Thank you for arming us against crooks. The one vehicle I ordered option by option was a '79 Chevy cargo van with a 350, long wheelbase, rear heater large fuel tank, heavy duty brakes, battery, radiator, oil and transmission coolers. I ordered it with the lowest ratio rear available for fuel economy, since I was buying it for talks I gave with reptiles rather than for heavy loads or towing. I got manual windows and doors locks so there was less to go wrong and optional sway bar for better control in corners. It was a great vehicle.
I had a 2005 Suburban 4WD and drove it until 2015; mostly highway driving between Milwaukee and Chicago. Put on over 200K miles and was very comfortable but it did eat suspension parts with all the pot holes in the Chicago area. Every year, I would look for something nicer, but never could find a better ride for the buck. Now I'm in a Highlander up north and an Accord down south.
I bought an '07 Avalanche a few years back. Trans went out and that's when I found out they owner before me was pulling something way overweight for the truck. So, it was no surprise when the engine went out. Got a Jasper remanufactured one slapped in. And you're right, I can do that numerous times and still not reach the price of a new one!
Wife had an 08 tahoe. Pretty decent vehicle. All it needed was the oil sender at the back of the intake manifold and an idler pulley because it made that squealing sound they all make but she didn't like it. That's all i ever had to do to it until she hydroplaned and totalled it. Now she has a 2013, I've done brakes on it and aside from fluid changes nothing else. They're pretty reliable.
I drive 2012 Tahoe. I am from Europe where these vehicles have a bad reputation. I love it. Bought it second hand, it was cheap, it is comfortable, everything fits in. Build in Arlington, Tx! What I like about it is the simple technology and the huge support information you can find on youtube. Any problem? You will find a helpful video helping to fix it. I do maintenance myself (very easy), also small repairs and only take it into an independent mechanic (sorry Scotty) when something is that requires special tools or skills. I have 123 000 miles on it, 100 000 are from me. Only larger problem I had was wheel bearings and brake calipers. Parts are cheap and I can order them online from the US.
I recently got a Suburban Z71 2004 and it drives great and 6 feet and even fit fine in the third row seats. Also, it feels very solid. I have seen some with almost 400k miles, and mine is 201k miles. If it gets up to 300k miles, I would be happy with it
This is like my situation. Same year, different trim and the Tahoe was given to me by my dad. Pretty cool car and drives very good for being at 223,000+ miles.
What's ironic is 2007 is the first year of AFM on the 5.3 which is when all the engine problems started. Prior to that the Tahoe Yukons and Escalades were rock-solid
I have a 2013 with 132k on it made in Arlington as well. Runs great and only normal routine maintenance on everyday wear and tear items. I hope to keep it past 300k
my 2007 Suburban has over 365K miles. i just replaced the drive shaft yesterday. all i wanted to do was change the universal joints , but i bent the shaft end when the new u joint was being pressed in. oh well. the new ones come with totally installed brand new u joints all balanced.
I love my 2010 Tahoe, but we recently have been having problems with it guzzling oil. It’s been leaking and we have to put a quart of oil in about once a month. Other than that, it’s a really great car, aside from the dashboard falling apart.
My '06 Envoy Denali was losing oil, so I put in a modified driver's side valve cover. You can also just drill holes in the metal baffle inside the stock valve cover to prevent oil from sitting on the baffle and, then, getting sucked into the PVC system - this issue should have been solved by GM.
2 years later, but here is an update lol; it started misfiring and leaking more, and the interior is now falling apart. Long story short, we are trading it in for a new 4Runner :)
Scottie. I also have an 2007 tahoe LTZ 4x4. Loaded. Mine has 235000 miles. I just replaced the front rotors and brake pads mine has a dvd player and touch screen, it had 99000 miles when I bought it back in 2013. I will drive it till it can no longer drive.
My wife drives a 2010 GMC Yukon 4x4 with 5.3 It currently has 192,000. Last week we took it on a 8 hr trip. It runs like a sewing machine & got 18mpg, which I was pleased with for what it is & the mileage. I have always used quality oil & filter. It doesn't leak a drop of anything & only uses half qt of oil in between changes. I don't like the VVT or the cylinder deactivation. If I am driving 60mph or less I always use manual mode & only let it go to 5th gear... this keeps it from continuously going from V8 to V4 to V8. With the high miles The valve train still doesn't have any clatter at all. Everything is factory original. Been a great vehicle for us !!!

I love my 2010 Tahoe, but we recently have been having problems with it guzzling oil. It’s been leaking and we have to put a quart of oil in about once a month. Other than that, it’s a really great car, aside from the dashboard falling apart.
Try changing the driver side valve cover. These trucks have an oil consumption issue
Yup, the PCV valve is built into the valve cover and when it gets clogged it causes oil consumption. Just did it to ours.
There are fixes for less oil consumption.

It currently has 192,000.
Vvt isnt cylinder deactivation it's variable valve timing
