I personnally recommend cutting the grass first and then apply a moss/weed killer. Two weeks later, after cutting the grass again, aerate and scarify before applying top soil, overseed and adding a fertiliser. It's not the end of the world if you scarify before spraying the weeds but during the scarifying process you are likely to increase the weed population in your lawn and on top of this overseeding is best done after scarification. If you have weeds or have to apply weed killer you better avoid overseeding straight after scarification. But again, agree you should do what best works for you.
Nicely done, like you I dont scarify deep unless its really called for. I deep scarified my lawn last year and there was hardly any grass left,my wife wasnt impressed. However the lawn has now come back and its the best its ever been. On the weed and feed,I would always scarify first to get rid of the crud then apply the treatment.
michael kilner I would like to have a go at some deep scarifying just to see how it would turn out, but I'm too worried about it not growing back. I'll have a go on my own lawn one day. Thanks for watching mate.
for picking up moss with mower try this...... clean deck of all grass, spray with WD40 and the chute, the bag will fill and no clogging 😁. I had some lawns which were infested with moss, treated every six weeks with spring, summer and autumn feed weed and moss killer did the trick, so i treat regular and it's another string to your bow. when the customer sees the results they are hooked. Great video Curtis thanks
Thanks for watching mate. I'd love to treat these lawns often with weed and feed but unfortunately I'm restricted by the customers most of the time, a lot of the time they don't want the extra expense of buying more products.
Exactly the job I've got to do in the morning, I use my beaten up old bluebird scarifier but it works great. As I work with my partner we usually take it in turns to scarify so it breaks up the boring raking but tomorrow I think I'll take my blower with me to make things quicker, but the results after are really satisfying, by scarifying it offers an extra service if we want our businesses to keep growing I think we need to add extra services like this. Great video thanks👍
Mowersandstuff it's definitely an easier job with two people mate, one to be scarifying one to be cleaning up, you'll be sorted in no time, I hope it stays dry for you, thanks for watching.
love ur videos its cool to see how different people all over the world landscape all the properties you maintain are beautiful and you do very nice work. i look forward to more. keep up the nice work
I look after a few different sports turfs my favourite is the bowling green or cricket square have many ups and dow and love horticultural work but the endless sacrifing and mowing and the end of year before topdressing and lead up to the start of the year is no joke as much as I love it cant bet being in the home garden.
Enjoyed the video, I've just started offering lawn care alongside my tree surgery business. I can see the benefits of a motorised scarifier over the manual.... I can't feel my shoulder this week!
UK lawn care, another great video bud, I have a large area to do I'm debating on the purchase scarifier of hire one option but as you said it's an investment if other customers want re service. I've bought a Billy goat vacuum and it claims to be ideal to lift the moss after a good scarification so time will tell. I don't do videos but am starting to like the idea of erm
roy gill I only bought the Billy goat as I got a used one at a great price being £1200 new. No for the little use a scarifier gets I went for a "World" scarifier, £400 new with a all metal construction and Briggs and Stratton engine, can't fault it.
Mowtown NI it's always the way though you don't have a bit of kit and then all of a sudden you get people wanting the job done lol. I might invest to be honest so far the Billy goat worked amazingly well when I lifted 8 bulk bags of leaves saved hours having to rake erm up plus it compacted them easier. I picked up my Billy goat vacuum for £975 which I found via searching the tinternet.
I did this today on a high setting as not to wreck the lawn, there's still some moss but I risk combing up too much and having patches all over the lawn. whats the next stage? do i put more grass seed down? fertilizer? or do I simply just leave the lawn and wait for the grass to grow naturaly? another thing, what's the best time to do this?
Nice one mate a mossy lawn of that size must be a right sod for you and the owner lol. Great job I have saved up for my first leaf blower now but iam now stuck weather to buy the stihl blower or the smallest Honda izy as iam currently useing the smallest mount field and it doesn't bag well at all .
Gowersghost I agree with Adam, get yourself the mower first, once the mower has earned you some money then you can think about other tools, thanks for watching bud.
Green Barrow Garden Services my scarifier isn't propelled but it is a very lightweight machine so it doesn't take much to push it, I find the blade spinning round helps pull you along a bit, if you're using it on a slope it may get you puffing a bit but I'm sure you'll manage fine, thanks for watching mate.
only way you can pick up thatch with mower is lawn tractor with over 500lt collector as smaller collector fills up to quick last time that lawn i do got de thatched we used backpack blower with flat curved nozzle it done better job than round tube
that lawn i mow both devices we used to de thatch lawn one got stolen & towed one can't used as can't use tractor as we taken things off it to stop it being stolen from place it kept it
good video mate, yes I am with you there with the mower clogging pain in the ar#* lol what do you use for editing as I've just started to film and can't get hold of the editing 😤
thanks mate iv just got my phone at the minute to do it on but getting new desktop/laptop next week so will try then. have a look at some of the stuff iv put up please thanks paul
Moss clogs yr mower as its full of moisture and so its like trying to cut thick wet grass, it'll just stick and clump to the innards of your mower and not make it into your bag. BTW use the backpack blower for large lawns like this. It'll save you some time and energy.
job well done .very informative.on the better gardens we do tend to spike-aerate first before scarifying.scarify near end of april and end of sept.some people feed prior to scarifying and some after.what seem to works best for us is scarify get two cuts on it and then apply feed.think a lot has to do with the quality of the feed you apply.area we are moss is in abundance.
caroline camp thanks for watching Caroline, I have never spike-aerated a lawn before but I think I would help out some of my lawns. I will try it in the future.
jason Gardener I normally do it whenever the customers go and get the weed and feed to be honest. It's something I did mention to them to get for the week before I did this video, they got it the week after. Thanks for watching mate.
nice one i get great satisfaction out of scarifying. always think of it as grooming a tatty dog lol.personally on my fortnightly grass cuts i cut grass then apply weed ,feed, & moss killer then try to scarify if its dry next fortnight. to get rid of dead moss & thatch. cheers like yourself i don't go to deep.
thegeordiefellwalker it's a nice job to do if it stays dry, and it always improves the lawn in the end, I have given the lawn a weed and feed since filming this video, I'll do an update in the coming weeks, thanks for watching mate.
the lawn scarifier moss remover will go down in history as one of the greatest inventions in history.

Sweet scarifier
I'd love a big lawn like that my vintage mowers would love it!
I think you should try setting number two.
MrSqwertery At least!
Congratulations on the 1000 subs bro, well deserved your channel is coming along nicely
more of these plz
Great video thanks will have to look at buying one
Terry Crowley thanks for watching Terry, the scarifier is a good tool to have mate, there are always mossy lawns to tidy up.
Nice work. I wonder if a etesia mower would collect the moss
Some people say weed, moss killer first so it’s not spread when scarifying. What do you think?
UK lawn care, another great video bud, I have a large area to do I'm debating on the purchase scarifier of hire one option but as you said it's an investment if other customers want re service.

I don't do videos but am starting to like the idea of erm
roy gill I have a Billy goat vacuum, fantastic for lifting Moss, real time and back saver.
Mowtown NI so would you also suggest the Billy goat scarifier, seems quite expensive but again it's a Billy goat so surely the name sells itself
roy gill I only bought the Billy goat as I got a used one at a great price being £1200 new. No for the little use a scarifier gets I went for a "World" scarifier, £400 new with a all metal construction and Briggs and Stratton engine, can't fault it.

It was a little more once I wanted the extra hose kit which I have yet to use lol

i have a weibang scarifier and shes a beast.
How much should i be paying for this size lawn. To be scarified. Cheers
i usually dethatch, then aerate, then over seed, then fertilize and i end up with the best looking lawn on the entire street
Hi Curtis . Can I still get away with scaify my lawn now it has so much moss in it or should I wait until September. Many thanks
Very informative, many thanks good filming.
Paul. Maple Landscaping thanks very much Paul. 👍🏻
I wonder if they would be interested in changing the grass to something that is to thick for that moss to flourish like a zoysia. Great video bro!
Mikes Lawn Care that's a great idea mate but unfortunately I don't think the customer would go for it. Thanks for watching mate, hope you're busy.
well done mate, think your the biggest lawn care channel how🍻🍻
jason Gardener no chance mate, there's a lots of bigger and better channels out there, but I'm happy with the growth of my channel.
Decent mower and decent broom then worry about a blower
Gowersghost I agree with Adam, get yourself the mower first, once the mower has earned you some money then you can think about other tools, thanks for watching bud.
buy the smaller izy push mower ideal for smaller gardens trouble free mower as long as you keep it clean underneath.
Hi!!
Ive recently started providing a scarifying service. Just wanted to ask you how much you would charge to scarify a lawn of this size?
Weed and feed AFTER scarifying. That way more of the product will seep into the lawn. It will be beautiful.
Hi there. Just catching up on all your vids...love the honesty. Can you tell me what you use for a combined weed and moss killer?
Best to just use Evergreen Complete 4-in1. Does the job!
Never done this job before. Do these machines propel themselves forward as I'm supposed do one and it's sloping ground. Nice work 👍
Green Barrow Garden Services you can buy self prepelled ones for a little extra
roy gill Looking at hiring one and it doesn't look to be self propelled.
Uk Lawn Care Thank you for replying. Not looking forward to it.

Do you diagonal too..on same setting...kettle on !!
what liquid moss killer are you using?
Hi what month of the year did you do this?
What you do with all that thatch
that lawn i mow both devices we used to de thatch lawn one got stolen & towed one can't used as can't use tractor as we taken things off it to stop it being stolen from place it kept it
Nice job and congrats on the 1k subs
D. Gentry cheers mate thanks very much.
use the mower with a bag to pickup the clippings on the lowest setting
can I ask why did you not use lawn sand on the lawn before you scarified
paul bugden basically the customers don't want the extra expense, i have given the lawn a weed and feed since filming this video. Thanks for watching.
good video mate, yes I am with you there with the mower clogging pain in the ar#* lol
what do you use for editing as I've just started to film and can't get hold of the editing 😤
Green green grass uk my editing is very basic, I use windows movie maker, it isn't the best but it's what I know how to use. Thanks for watching.
thanks mate iv just got my phone at the minute to do it on but getting new desktop/laptop next week so will try then. have a look at some of the stuff iv put up please
thanks paul
Stick A feed with high iron in that'll knock the moss back a lot
Jonesy Boy the lawn has had a weed and feed since filming this and it's looking good, thanks for watching mate.
Moss clogs yr mower as its full of moisture and so its like trying to cut thick wet grass, it'll just stick and clump to the innards of your mower and not make it into your bag. BTW use the backpack blower for large lawns like this. It'll save you some time and energy.
TheGav0071 thanks for the information mate, now at least I can explain to my customers why it takes so long to clear up all the mess.
do you overseed after?
RJC-Services not on this occasion mate, I did feed it about a week later, thanks for watching.
Compacted lawn.
Ye nice job bud..bg86 blower too...ya don't use an fs50 for edging do ya...Stihl all the way..canee beat hayter scarifier
See I like a mossy lawn. I understand it’s not great for the actual grass but moss isn’t the worst thing you could have on the lawn aesthetically

nice work mate.
when to weed and feed, i think you should go with you own experience and results.
👍
jason Gardener I normally do it whenever the customers go and get the weed and feed to be honest.
