Popolocrois is legit a fucking amazing game. I've since downloaded it on Vita, because the load times on PSP were pretty terrible. I remember getting psp for Christmas when it came out and a few random games my mom just picked out to go with it. Brave Story was one of them along with another called Aedis Eclipse: Generation of chaos. I ended up loving both. :)
I was actually playing both YS VIII & Trails in the Sky 2 earlier tonight.. It seems as though ever since I’d discovered Cold Steel I could never get enough of the genre.. Glad to have found your channel!
I was pleasantly surprised to see Wild Arms XF on your list, as it was one of the first two non port/remake PSP RPGs I thought of. The other was Dissidia [012] Final Fantasy. The PSP did get quite a few great titles, but because of how little attention the console itself got most are barely known titles.

Thanks David! I loved Brave Story, though I don't remember much about it. I thought the characters were adorably cute! I also love Jeanne D'Arc and really want to play it again. "Star Ocean: First Departure" I didn't personally play through the first Star Ocean, but I do know that this was the first release we got in NA, and whether it was good or not, it does follow the criteria for making this list. This is a pretty solid list! There are some I haven't played, so I can't comment on, and some I'd put on my list personally... Though that would include ports like VP Lenneth and Tactics Ogre. They're pretty rare to find in their ps1 incarnations that I'd still recommend most ppl grab the psp versions. Well, at this point we have reborn and Lenneth is on mobile and ps4, so maybe the psp incarnations are no longer king haha. Also Persona 3 Portable, I have to give love for getting me into the franchise. While it is a remake, the FeMC scenario feels new enough to me (they handled her social links mechanically and narratively in a manner closer to Persona 4) that's its my preferred version. It doesn't make many ppls lists, but I have a soft spot for Crimson Gem Saga. Also, Spectral Souls... So long as you don't *load* play it on *load* original hardware. It was not well optimized, but it does run better on a Vita and other methods.

I think you missed an underrated game that could fit here. Neverland Card Battle. It's not even available for digital purchase, and it's such a fun B-grade game.
I´m on my JRPG phase right now, deciding that I must finish every one I start never been much of a gamer, and the only one I´ve finished so far was Ys Seven, but Brave Story here is a real solid game as far as I can tell still getting used to the idea that it takes around 20 hours to finish each game though
Good list, but almost half of them were (or had) remakes. 😅 Legend of Heroes: Song of the Ocean - originally released on Windows in 1999, was remade and released for PSP in 2007 Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - again released on Windows first in 2004, then released on PSP in 2011 (2006 in Japan) Growlanser Wayfarer of Time - originally released on PS2 (though, only in Japan) in 2003, remade and released for PSP in 2012 Ys Seven - released on PSP in 2010, released on Steam in 2017 (perhaps didn't know about this one yet since this video was made so close to that time)
I dunno much, but Popolocrois games was pretty underrated outside of Japan, I think... I wonder if there's gotta be a remake or something new from this good 'ol game
Hexyz Force seemed like something special. I need to get back to that game some day. As for Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, I thought I'd enjoy a more patient world building story; but god that game for like 80% of it never really picks up until the end. I just got bored after awhile. I never quite finished it even though it was finally getting interesting near the end. Interesting to hear that the second game hits the ground running. I may have to try that someday as well.
@@ranzorr loved how you ignored that he said since it's the first official English release it counts. But if course you weebs can read and speak Japanese perfectly.
Hate to break it to you, but at least three games on the list break your own rules: 1. Song of the Ocean is a remake of the the PC-98 original. 2. Growlancer: Wayfarer of time is a port of the PS2 original 3. Trails in the Sky SC is a port of the PC original Some would argue that PoPoLoCrois PSP could also be considered to violate the rules, because at least parts of the game are based on older games Popo games, but I'm not familiar enough with the series to comment on that.
I may give that popolocrois a try sometime. Though I never was a fan of the Earthbound series, I do enjoy Trails gameplay and it looks like it could be charming. Btw I notice that your profile pic is the main character from the Crossbell games, I'm so excited for the first one to be finished with the fan translation, 70% done I think last time I checked?
I've already played the current translation of Trails of Zero, it's serviceable and you can easily figure out what's going on. The retranslation of that is chugging along though, yes, currently around 70%.
Since u did put ports and remakes might as well throw tactics Ogre there, its the most complete and detailed JRPG ever made, you can legit play more than one hundred hours and still not get everything

I think you missed an underrated game that could fit here. Neverland Card Battle. It's not even available for digital purchase, and it's such a fun B-grade game.
I´m on my JRPG phase right now, deciding that I must finish every one I start
never been much of a gamer, and the only one I´ve finished so far was Ys Seven, but Brave Story here is a real solid game as far as I can tell
still getting used to the idea that it takes around 20 hours to finish each game though
HOLY SHIT BRAVE STORY I FUCKING 100% THAT GAME FR IT'S AMAZING
i was trying to remeber the name of Brave Story all day. THANK YOU
Edna: What's gonna happen to the Heroine(about herself) of the story?
L0L, funniest quote.
Edna cracked me up that whole game, I love her!
I JUST bought a PSP for all the Ys games possible, so this is perfect!!
Good video and good list! It would have been great to also note which of those games are available digitally for the PS Vita.
Good list, but almost half of them were (or had) remakes. 😅
Legend of Heroes: Song of the Ocean - originally released on Windows in 1999, was remade and released for PSP in 2007
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky - again released on Windows first in 2004, then released on PSP in 2011 (2006 in Japan)
Growlanser Wayfarer of Time - originally released on PS2 (though, only in Japan) in 2003, remade and released for PSP in 2012
Ys Seven - released on PSP in 2010, released on Steam in 2017 (perhaps didn't know about this one yet since this video was made so close to that time)
Props to the Trails series? Have my thumbs up.
I dunno much, but Popolocrois games was pretty underrated outside of Japan, I think...
I wonder if there's gotta be a remake or something new from this good 'ol game
Heh Now I tell you one truth : You Are Best Gamer of the PSP game and you are the first player in the world
That doesent realy make sence
@@bigbootyenjoyer what you mean ?
@@AlomzoTigerheart9000 he isnt 1st player in the world
@@bigbootyenjoyer I mean 1st in RPG
@@AlomzoTigerheart9000 i belive there are better players than him
Hexyz Force seemed like something special. I may have to try that someday as well.
notyoursavior78 play the SC because that's when the action really begins
I've always wanted popolocrois. I have most of the others. Very good list.
You earn my sub for number 1 choice good list of games 😁
Is every Ys series connected to each story? Or for every Ys series, different story but with same characters?
>No ports or remakes
>3 ports and 1 remake
which ones?
@@TheKnightOfBuquicious The two Legend of Heroes, Growlanser and Popolocrois, thought they all got their first English release on the PSP.
@@ranzorr loved how you ignored that he said since it's the first official English release it counts. But if course you weebs can read and speak Japanese perfectly.
@@TheGaara802 Doesn't change the fact that they're ports or remakes
Nice list. I personally enjoyed Growlanser.
Hate to break it to you, but at least three games on the list break your own rules:
1. Song of the Ocean is a remake of the the PC-98 original.
2. Growlancer: Wayfarer of time is a port of the PS2 original
3. Trails in the Sky SC is a port of the PC original
Some would argue that PoPoLoCrois PSP could also be considered to violate the rules, because at least parts of the game are based on older games Popo games, but I'm not familiar enough with the series to comment on that.
Popolocrois was awesome
Ah memories...
Thank you for this video I've been playing my PSP since I got it in 08 play Everyday on my break at work
Love the PSP. Great handheld.
Brave story still bangs even in 2018
lol Ys VII was ported to PC 1/30/2018. Great Video though!!! :D
I LOVED POPOLOCROIS!! What a hidden gem that was
SOOOOOO many mispronunciations.
I forgive you, it is a good list.
Gene DARK
Since u did put ports and remakes might as well throw tactics Ogre there, its the most complete and detailed JRPG ever made, you can legit play more than one hundred hours and still not get everything
wow ur taste is a gems alright!
Popolocrois is an amazing Game. Wish we would have gotten more Games. But its technically a port of the First and Third Game + some new Stuff
Great videos!
So, wait. You will include Growlanser, but not Star Ocean 1st Departure, which we never got on SNES...ok...
In my first battle on the psp Star Ocean 1 right at the end my character just floated into the sky.
Heh. I think the only one on this list I've actually BEATEN is Brave Story - New Traveller. It's funny how it subverts a few common RPG tropes.
The animations used for Jeanne d'arc were not from the game they were from an anime called rage of bahamut
good list but what game was like hexyus force? Mechemia? I'm looking for it but have no idea how it's spelled.
Ah yes, John Dark. My favorite video game.
Can you do a video on jrpgs with the funnest side quests?
