It was incredible Sandra. My brother is a full zone higher than me. I’m 7a he is 8a. He gets warmer about 2 weeks before me and cooler 2 weeks after me, and it really makes a big difference.
Sweet! No pun intended 😎Can’t believe I missed this video. Somehow! Great harvest. The cool thing is that that garden soil is getting richer and richer season after season. Sweet potatoes are a great soil enhancer. Those are some beautiful Japanese sweet tators
Absolutely freaking amazing!! I’d say about 38 pounds. You got some really huge sweet potatoes. I didn’t know about waiting two weeks. I always learn something new with your videos. Congrats! 🎉 ❤
Glad you were able to learn something new. 😁 and you are the closest guess so far. I will be telling everyone tomorrow how many pounds we were able to harvest.
Greetings, Rick, from Windermere, Florida zone 9b USA 🇺🇸 🍠👍🍠 I'm guessing 35 pounds I've grown Sweet Potatoes a few times and always have them sprout up again. The leaves are edible and delicious 😋 if you fry a piece of bacon, chop the washed leaves and wilt them in the hot skillet 🍳 Are you having a wonderful weekend with your family?🧡🦃🧡
Not sure if they will come back in Virginia or not. My brother zone is 8a, and in Delaware I’m zone 7a. I know there are still some roots in the ground in his raised bed. I planted some small sweet potatoes back in my grow bags after my harvest just to see. I’m having a good time with everyone and getting some work done too 😁 You are the closest guess so far, I will give it a few more days and reveal the weight.
@@GardeningwithBarchuckin Wonderful. I lived many years in Newport News VA. Still have family and friends there. I like the cement block raised needs too. 👍
Crazy awesome Rick !! How many slips did you plant ? They obviously loved that soil !! Not sure what the pest damage was from. I'm 19.7 lbs Let's go !! Cheers J&C 🌱💥🌱😁
It was 8-10 slips, they did a great job growing in the new garden area. A buddy said it might be damage from the pill bug(rolly polly) which makes sense because they are normally in the compost and that is what we added to the bed. Your guess is close to what I was thinking 20-30 lbs. I will let you know in a couple days what the weight is. 😁
I had a few sweet potatoes that were partially eaten by mice or maybe voles, not sure, but they sure did like them. I think growing sweet potatoes has to be on the top 3 list. My guess is 50lbs, tough to guess by just watching. Great harvest Rick.
We added a 1/2” hardware cloth to the bottom of the cinder block raised beds because I did see what looked like vole damage when he moved in. But they have a dog so he keeps a lot of critters at bay. You guess is very close. Closer than mine was I will give it a few days and let you know. I don’t want any cheaters reading the comments for the right answer 😁
Thanks Juani! I was extremely happy with the results. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 Great question, after the 2 weeks of curing the sweet potatoes. They should last for a few months storing in a cool and dark place. Starting the slips will start in about another month and a few will be used for that. 😁
@@juanisgarden5356 with gardening you already have an idea if a vegetable is good or bad, it should not be soft or squishy, no bad smell, and no mold or liquid on your coming off the potatoes.
I don't have any sweet potato slips right now. And will show a video on how to start sweet potato slips after the new year. But it is pretty easy to make them. Start with your sweet potato either place it in soil or a cup of water, roots should start forming and with in a few weeks slips will start appearing. Cut them off and stick into water, then plant into the garden.
Yes, Mark! I will start some seeds probably around mid March. What I can do is so a seed viability test, and then show how to plant them into small pots. Then let them grow as a seedling into a transplant. Show how to harden them off outside and plant into the garden. Thanks for the question Mark.
That is a good harvest. Plenty of nice usable sweet potatoes there. Your brother must somewhere warmer.
He is in Zone 8a Virginia. Very pleased and happy with the harvest.
Woooow!!😊
So great potato!!☺️👍
Is it sweet potato?
Wonderful luck!!😍
Thanks, yes these are sweet potatoes. But they need to cure for about 2 weeks to taste the sweetest. 😁
Great job harvesting those sweet potatoes
Thank you it was exciting 🍠😁
I love the thumbnail lol. Seriously great harvest man!
Thanks I was surprised pulling out some of these monsters. So I figured give the crazy face thumbnail 😁 very thankful for all of the sweet potatoes 🍠
Incredible sweet potato harvest, Rick! To think the slips were only planted in July. Amazing!

Wow. What kind of sweet potato were they?
I had two types yam orange skin and flesh and the sweet potato (I believe Japanese) purple skin with white flesh.
Congratulations! 👍
Thanks 😁

They were very good, Deborah! Very close, it was 41 pounds.
Good harvesting advice and an exceptional outcome. Transplanted our over-wintered potted planst a couple of weeks ago so looking forward to it.
Thanks Matthew! This was an awesome harvest, and very pleased with the outcome.
Love a good treasure hunt!
I've seen damage like that from rolly pollies (pill bugs).
Ah good call Jack. They tend to be in the compost and that’s what we added when made the addition to the bed. It was an awesome treasure hunt. 😁

The good potatoes are the smaller tender ones....this isn't a fishing show lol
I like all sizes, but definitely the smaller ones are more tender. Thanks Joey!
35lbs?

Can you teach how to grow ghost chili peppers

You can still eat them just cut out the bad
That is exactly what we did, anything that had any damage we separated and used first.
