    The outro is actually from an 80's(might be late 70's) horror movie called Phantasm, so good call there.
    And this album is amazing, milestone in Death Metal.

    I remember buying this album on cassette when it first came out when I was 16. I didn't know anything about Entombed but I was really into Sepultura Beneath the Remains, Bolt Thrower Realm of Chaos, Pestilence, death and morbid angel altars of madness. I was at independant records in Colorado Springs. This guy named Kurt Huebert worked there. He was also a photagrapher for Pit magazine. He would go around the record store with a walkman portable cassette player and let you listen to albums like this. He let me listen to left hand path and I was blown away. I think that day I also bought Paradise Lost Lost Paradise and Hellbaastard Natural Order albums that were also great. As far as I know, Entombed was the first group with that swedish death metal guitar sound. We used to mimic it by turning down the tone knob all the way down on our guitars to get that bass overload heavy sound. They used a peavy amp and a boss heavy metal distortion pedal with the knobs all turned up all the way to get it in the studio.

    • @donavonhoward114
      @donavonhoward114 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everyone used to think that Entombed were gearheads or something because of their guitar tone, lol. It was actually the exact opposite. Everyone playing that European style of Death Metal had to have that guitar tone after Entombed, and Dismember. Entombed was also one of the early bands that had a really good drum tone on record. I miss the 90's, and 80's Death Metal, and the Thrash scene that came before it. It was all new ground, and new soil being turned, and that soil was extremely fertile. Even when Death Metal as a business started going downhill in the mid-90's, there were still great albums being released every year. The internet wasn't around, and we knew little about the bands we listened too, yet we still felt like we had a relationship with those great bands. I remember when TH-cam was still in it's infancy I was researching about all the bands I had listened too since I was really young. The only stuff we really knew about the bands we loved on a personal level was through magazines, television interviews, and radio interviews. A lot of it was learned through word of mouth, or rumors, and some of the information we would get about our favorite bands and musicians was false. Most people found bands like Entombed just by hanging out at the record stores, listening to random new Metal albums, and testing the waters. No singles, no early releases, no bullcrap. All trial and error, and having FUN.

      Kurt Huebert!!!! As in Independent Records and video in Colorado Springs. He was the guru of everything death metal there. He introduced me to entombed, Obituary carcass, autopsy and several others. Last I heard, he had become a school teacher of some kind. What a blast from the past. I've always wondered about that guy.

      @@odell4625 Yah it was so strange back then because that was one of the only ways to get introduced to music like that. Independent records was only record store in town that had music like that untill Wendy Perlstein opened the pit record store.

    If I remember correctly they didn’t publish the lyrics in the liner notes. (Just some cool photos and a few lines from Left Hand Path.) I’m remembering this from buying the casette when this album came out, so it’s been awhile. I’m pretty sure any lyrics you read online are people just interpretting what they hear. LG’s vocals are fairly “clean” as far as being able to pick out what he says, if you listen to it enough times.

    imakaiya The song Left Hand Path is an artwork. If it's the first time you hear it, I understand, it's quite an impact. I'm 43 years old, but I still remember when I was thirteen years old listening to this song for the first time on a cassette and it influenced me for the rest of my life. And to this day I still think it's the best song in the history of death metal.
    Entombed is next to Paradise Lost, Candlemass, Death and Sepultura (old), one of my favourite bands. I've played through all their eras. The first two albums are pure Swedish death metal. The third one is a turning point, and an approach to a new genre: Death n' roll. For many fans "Wolverine Blues" is the beginning of the betrayal for many fans. Similar to what Metallica did with the "Black Album". "To Ride..." was the ultimate betrayal. But I like the later death n'roll era. Less than their death metal era (Left Hand Pah and Clandestine are sublime), but I like it. Wolverine Blues, Uprising and Morning Star are highly recommended albums. It's rock and roll with death metal. It's like listening to motorhead + death metal. 😆

    • @macPles
      @macPles 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LHP and Cland are brilliant but I have a special place for Wolverine Blues, really intense album. Similar to Carcass with Swansong, love all Carcass albums but there is something about Swansong that is just, well, beautiful as with Wolverine.

    • @SavageZoom
      @SavageZoom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@macPles If I had to make a ranking, Wolverine Blues would be behind Left Hand Path and Clandestine. And that's not a demerit. Quite the contrary. I totally agree with you about the intentionality of Wolverine Blues. Tracks like Eyemaster,Out Of Hand or Demon prove it. And I also agree with you about Swansong from Carcass. It's a very good and underrated album. Behind their masterpieces, but not mediocre. We have the mania of separating things by very good or very bad, and it doesn't work like that.

    Hi Kaiya! I liked it a lot! More than anything came to mind. Clandestine album is probably written by many people, I think it's also very good, it's important that it's not L.G. Petrow also sang. On the other hand, the band Firespawn, which is not an old band, is worth checking out, because it features a very good and mature L.G. Petrov's voice and the music are also very good. Before his death, his last records were with the band Firespawn.

      Yes, it has the 2 songs that you first felt were weaker. You're absolutely right, even if you have to listen to a record several times to know for sure which tracks are actually bad. Me and my friends in the early 90s, when we listened to these records, for example Left Hand Path, from beginning to end, like you did now :-) And we didn't rewind the tape, we just played the album all the way through. We also liked the weaker tracks, if for no other reason than the way they sound :-D

      'Wolverine Blues' does a better job in that concern i think. Production-wise 'To Ride, SSaStT' is awful and it has songs that are a bit hit-and-miss with clearly some filler on there. Wolverine has nothing but killer tracks in my opinion, but you're free to think otherwise, ofcourse.

    Facts for you to know my lady about this classic ➡ When the band recorded it their members were only 16-17 years old .. ‼ that specific guitar distortion got nominated as the Gothemburg sound ..due to its rawness and low down tune sound of it ..that then many several bands copied it and still do up until this day .. ◘ their opening track Left Hand path its considered the most influential piece of art within the Death Metal Genre .. ↔ The original drummer of the band Nicke Andersson parted ways to create his own project The Hellacopters ♀ The vocalist Lars-Goran Petrov recently died of cancer ▼ ..What you just listened is a gem within the metal community ...please ENJOY !!!!!

    Hey, friend. Just came across your channel. As soon as I gave you a chance, I subscribed immediately. Great review of Left Hand Path. I'd love to see what you think about Wolverine Blues, To Ride, Speak the Truth..., and Morning Star. Anyway... Consider me a fan. I'll be watching for your posts on a regular. In the meantime (and forgive me since I haven't reviewed your back catalog yet), but have you reviewed any Kvelertak on your program? Aside from mid-era Entombed (tons of Enslaved, and hella lots of Today is the Day), they're my all-time favorite. Check'em out if you haven't yet (especially the self-titled and Endling 2023). Looking forward to it.
    Until next time...
