Graphite and Its Awesome Properties

- Graphite is one of the many interesting forms of carbon. And carbon I love! It morphs into coal, diamond, graphite, graphene, fullerenes, nanotubes, buckyballs and more, all with their own set of fantastic properties. Except for CO2, that causes global warming. But graphite is awesome!

Here we succeded. We had the "campaing to the desert" around 1860 or so where the militia went to the south part of the country (we dont have desserts so... the name is dumb) and exterminared most of the natives and stole the lands.
Btw they are still mostly empty 😱

I'm a welder, and we use carbon rods coated with copper for air arc gouging. Because the Carbon can withstand high temps, the steel becomes molten. Then you introduce a high pressure air stream that causes rapid oxydization that blows a gouge right into steel. It's super loud, and creates a huge amount of toxic fumes too.
What is the source of the toxic fumes? Burning metal or oxides Burning?
@TheDerpy Kitty CO always has a clean scent lol
It is so therapeutic though, I love gouging and watching the molten metal just cut away like butter
It's pretty cool, but it always seems like you're in a tight spot when gouging so no matter where you direct the air, you're getting showered in sparks... and holy hell is it loud
Funny how ar the end of the video, where he's melting the copper, it sounds exactly like it

you know, the thing I love about using graphite rods when heating things with an arc (like in an arc furnace) is that the graphite basically vaporizes and burns into CO2 in the air, essentially making a flame that burns and probably makes the arc even hotter, and larger.
That moment when the "safety-gloves" caught on fire XD.
garden gloves bruh
theSalmonMan XD I know, it's just liked how that fire appeared out of nowhere straight from a cartoon.
When he was melting the copper wire, it's because there was some wax on the carbon rod, that got soaked into the glove. Was is very flammable, and is why it made his "glove" burst into flames.
I was wearing practically the same type of glove when i accidentaly touched some cca 600°C aluminium rod. Piece of glove turned into charcoal and it didn't evne have time to catch on fire. :D

When you were touching together the two graphite electrodes, the way they burnt up and made a squeaking noise suddenly reminded me if a metal fabrication process known as air carbon arc (ACA). You use a roughly 3/8" carbon electrode with compressed air and like 300 amps DC to just blow big chunks of molten metal in your steel.
Suddenly carbon arc welding, and old carbon rod burning spotlights make so much more sense. 😳
