I'm British and returned today from a week in Benidorm. Full passport checks and immigration control both ways baggage scanned in case you bring an extra 20 cigs in and risk having the allowed 200 confiscated. It's a total disgace that unknown, often savage men have no such restrictions .😠🇬🇧
And if you had lost/or passport stolen, you'd be up the walls with worry. You wouldn't be allowed travel. Have to get on to embassy and consulate. It's a nightmare. Yet others will lose the documents on purpose. It makes a mockery of the systems in place.

Every airline bringing people into the country without papers should be fined for each person, same as truckers.
There are just over 8 BILLION people in the world and growing uncontrollably in third world. 7 BILLION are in the the countries that DO NOT have social system benefits. 3 BILLION are young men able and willing to trek to Europe for social benefits. And they are trekking. Europe is finished.

The answer is yes. Passports should be checked, and photos are taken. If they turn up looking for asylum and do not get it, they can be returned.
If they have no passport they cannot get through.
If these people are really economic migrants why can't they be given expat status for 1 to 3 years to do jobs that the locals do not want, or jobs where there is a shortage of workers to do the job.

I came to Ireland 20 years ago to live here peacefully, they check everything about my past life, criminals records, school, and colleagues' certificates, even though they checked my mother and father names and records ( my parents were farmers and both are dead)...I came to this country to have my family ( my wife is Irish) and to be a good citizen....but these guys cross the border like a rabbit in the middle of the garden...wtf 😮

Why is this even a question ? We have been pointing this out for years! There in Uk on benefits, ferry ride over here under different name claiming benefits since forever, doing same during covid...
If i fly to Uk when booking ticket ,have to give passport number as it should be,have to show passport at hoarding, and coming off...which is Exactly the same Process fri a British citizen to come to Ireland...

Anybody remember when Local Councils spent loads of money on massive Iron Bars to block Irish Travellers from parking their caravans on waste land , they even used enormous Rocks , now the Iron Bars are being used to protect total strangers. Undocumented people are coming from UK recently with the crack down over there. At the Mater hospital they come and say "my no speak English" when they arrive and when they are in they speak perfect English with a British accent .
Nobody checks these people and they all come with cars with British plate numbers .

Of course there should be controls. We should accept applications from war torn countries like Georgia and Ukraine but not from countries like Pakistan, Nigeria and Algeria countries not at war. Now that migrants are streaming from NI, no doubt because they know what a soft touch Our Justice Ministry is, there should be controls on buses and trains arriving from the North.
The present Government appears to want uncontrolled immigration. It fails to deport people and is abysmally incompetent and inefficient in processing claims.

From the UK in peace. I have a lot of sympathy for the Irish over this, we have the same issues over hear. But there is a great irony here, it was the EU and the Irish government that insisted on having an open border in the brexit negotiations.

Putting border controls on the border would breach the Good Friday agreement and the agreement with the EU agreed during Brexit

People are forgetting about good Friday agreement. There can't be a hard border between North Ireland and the Republic of Ireland . Golden solution to this problem is that the Uk government should start checks at Uk main land ferry ports and airport, and one travelling to North Ireland from the UK mainland should produce their residence proof that they are legally allowed to live in the uk as uk national or temporary residents then they will be allowed to travel to Norther Ireland like this it will be like kill two birds with one th stone there will be no hard border in irish sea because immigration or residence checks are already done in uk mainland and it will not encourage asylum seekers to travel between NI and UK mainland but i daught that UK ministers will be willing to spend money on this checks or irish government should pressures UK government to start this checks by contributing fund to help start this process so no asylum seekers and enter NI ans the Ireland
ERR ask France to stop the migrants not the UK. The Rwanda bill only becoming law less than a week ago and the Irish government are using it as a scapegoat for it`s own countries failure on immigration.

With that attitude you will get nowhere fast. You are essentially expecting another country to solve the problems of illegals to Ireland. The security at ferry crossings to Ireland are practically non existent. The airports outside Dublin are not much better. There is little challenge to anyone from outside the EU. In cases when deportation of illegals is agreed, the Minister fails to follow up and send them home! The problems are systemic in Irish government, Garda and Civil Service so passing the buck to the UK is a pipe dream!

It would be very simple to escort them from the gate (after retaining their passports on boarding) and to walk them to immigration. ID confirmed, status confirmed, country risk assessed , validity clarified, bogus claim removal assured. It is then a simple mater for Ireland , as a “sovereign” nation to set the permission to fly visa as they see fit , with assessment of that country’s citizens risk and the risk given to the airline to police. In simple terms the current system is colluding with the illegal immigration. That’s your political parties .
