I have used this variation in few local tournaments and i loved! The play is you have to activate the barrier of frost in between gaps, when the opponent is pressuring! Love that!
When MKX first came out, the argument could've been made it was the worst variation simply because of how bad it use to be before the variation got buffed in the 2 balance patches later on in the game's life cycle. If I remember correctly, barrier of frost had a longer start up that wasn't 3 frames and definitely had less recover time. So if it came out, you were already far more unsafe especially whiffed along with the fact the barrier parry window didn't last as long. With frozen aura, It didn't have the frost bomb added explosion and it didn't have the after freeze after doing enhanced slide. So when it came to vanilla MKX you had a variation where your parry was nearly useless and your frozen aura had no real offensive capabilities which bordered on variationless is where the argument comes from.
I believe Lex Luthor's shield trait takes no block damage at lvl 3 but it dose get taken out by Superman trait, even while blocking. Lex is a under represented character in Injustice 1i would love to see a vid on Lex in the future
I never thought the Unbreakable was bad, but definitely not great either. The mind games you brought up with guess whether they'll go for the Ice Aura or Ice Parry is a lot more effective than you let on. Beyond all that, there's not much really going for or against Unbreakable.
I believe Predator also takes no block damage when he amplifies his invisibility, but please don't take my word for it because I'm not 100% sure as of yet.
He was talking about a variation Unbreakable vs. Grandmaster Sub Zero. All characters have this fighting style system that can combo into each other for damage increase and hits. Unbreakable Sub Zero has more cons than pros is what he is trying to say.
His kit isn't bad at all. There just isn't enough in it. Unbreakable has one the lowest string counts/combo counts. Very little juggle options. It's an extremely defensive/counter-heavy kit for a game that wants you to be aggressive. All this is also why his combo damage is higher compared to others.
Unbreakable was the main variation I used when playing subzero. I don’t think it’s useless it depends on how you play. For me it was high risk high reward with the combos I’d pull off. With other players I saw some using him very defensively utilizing his parry a lot.
To be fair grand master were superior, but it could lay down a lot of pressure with the aura, and had great dmg. I prefered unbreakable aswell, and I was pretty decent in rankings.
This video makes a glaring omission - in the final patches of the game, 99% of characters that had armored moves that launched for a bar got their moves nerfed to where they needed 2 bars to both have armor and launch the opponent for a combo. Unbreakable Sub-Zero was the only character that wasn't affected in that way in the game. Therefore, as long as he had a bar and aura, the character could launch you for a combo from up to 2/3rds of the screen away. So, Unbreakable stopped opponents from playing neutral in a way that most other characters could only emulate by using double the resources. As far as tier lists, Unbreakable stopped being at the very bottom of the list well before the final patches had been rolled out - once the parry, aura and ice burst got buffed, he was no longer bottom tier material.
Ohh, that is an interesting point. I suppose the issue is that Grandmaster can do that too. Place the ice clone, MB slide for armor, then the opponent gets tossed backwards onto the clone.
@@TrueUnderDawgGaming He can, except there are characters that make the clone null and void (Takeda, Ermac and Kenshi) who at the first sign of the clone, will do a special/normal that will break right through it. the way you explained it made it sound like your playing rock paper scissors when you go for a combo reminds me too much of for honor where 90% of the game is hoping the other guy chose the wrong move or praying that you chose the right counter to a move
Honestly that didn't make sense when you said the negatives equal out the positive. At face value sure but in actual matches where people always love to counter poke the parry is a solid. And saying that new players love to jump attack is thing yes. But that just means you need to be able read your opponent which is easy because some people can't let go of jump spam and are easy to counter with other means. Not to mention you forget that the aura gives subzero enhanced slide a combo extender by freezing the opponent in the air which I belive makes it the only armored combo extender in the game.
No character in Mortal Kombat is bad as long as you know how to use them. Someone who is comfortable with the moves, knows the combos and devises a strategy to win matches could make use of this character. It is that wag with every fighting game.
Hmm no mention of f4 aura being plus on block for pressure and ex aura after f4 jails into 50/50s. Also mb slide with aura on reaction to projectiles and as a armored launcher is what makes this variation so good.

Bro I mained unbreakable sub for over a year before MK11 and trust me I stomped most players, he was like the only guy left with an armored launcher/combo extender after the big patch that removed them
I'm pretty sure crystalline tremor meter burn buff nullifies chip damage too.
unbreakable at launch was so bad and after they finally buffed him no one wanted to play him anyway
He is great still
I love when he's explaining the zero block damage reptile's attacks are just show as high low or mid so some of his attacks are just mid
I’ve seen this character played once. It was a ft 10 between Sonicfox and Tom Brady
I play unbreakable and it does have his advantage of chip damage, and it works really good at the end of a fight
Do you know how many Grandmaster Sub zero players I make rage quit because of the Unbreakable variation that is Low key B+ Tier...
Merry Christmas and a happy new year liked and subed. I didn't know there were more than one variation. Mmm must take a look.
It has one advantage over almost all others, the one bar armored launcher.
Nah I used to play him he was good imo
this variation is a lot better than I thought not gonna lie
There wasn't a single Unbreakable Sub-Zero in sight when MKX was popping online and now there's a whole swarm of them in the comments 😂.
I actually picked up this variation as a joke but now that version of sub is what i mainly play because its just really fun
the way you explained it made it sound like your playing rock paper scissors when you go for a combo
reminds me too much of for honor where 90% of the game is hoping the other guy chose the wrong move or praying that you chose the right counter to a move
have yet to play this specific game, but i’ve always loved playing as Subzero. it breaks my heart to see this toxic slander. >;^(
I used him exclusively until Smoke in UMK3 came along and Noob Saibot in MKT. I used him and Noob Saibot both about equally in MK4.
Poison ivy also has the mud move that removes block damage
Honestly that didn't make sense when you said the negatives equal out the positive. At face value sure but in actual matches where people always love to counter poke the parry is a solid. And saying that new players love to jump attack is thing yes. But that just means you need to be able read your opponent which is easy because some people can't let go of jump spam and are easy to counter with other means. Not to mention you forget that the aura gives subzero enhanced slide a combo extender by freezing the opponent in the air which I belive makes it the only armored combo extender in the game.
As a sub zero player on mk 11 this made me happy lol
Much like the other comments I wouldn’t say he was terrible but unbreakable couldn’t compare to his other variations
You do great job at explaining pros and Cons
No character in Mortal Kombat is bad as long as you know how to use them. Someone who is comfortable with the moves, knows the combos and devises a strategy to win matches could make use of this character. It is that wag with every fighting game.
Hmm no mention of f4 aura being plus on block for pressure and ex aura after f4 jails into 50/50s. Also mb slide with aura on reaction to projectiles and as a armored launcher is what makes this variation so good.
TrueUnderDawGaming: sub zero is a useless here
Also him: *shows a combo of sub zero*
When I play sub zero I only play the unbreakable variation. I just like playing variations that I don’t see much of
As someone who still plays OG mortal Kombats, this is strange af to watch. I miss deadly alliance and deception.
Ahem, Mr.Dawg, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.
I don’t even play this game but the video was so well made that I was able to enjoy it regardless
Bad or not. This was the version of sub I used.
All 3 variations of sub struggle vs Possessed, imo. Still, good in depth look at the character's least seen variation.
It's underappreciated it seems stronger than you think. You just have to face up against someone
Actually my mains in this game are Unbreakable Sub Zero and Inferno Scorpion. I just love both a lot and it's a pity noone plays them
UNBREAKABLE is my go too if I play SZ he’s way more fun than the others
So you decided to use the worst forms of Sub zero and Scorpion. Interesting!
Inferno Scorpion saw lots pf play at launch; low minion was deemed busted beyond belief back then. The game has changed so much.
@@kylenguyen7371 Really? What was the difference back then with the low demon?
@@NphiniT I love the frozen aura on Sub Zero and the demons in Scorpion's variation. I didh't say I don't play the other variations of them as well. I love all of them
5:14 here I believe in *Unbreakable Sub-Zero Supremacy*
I don't even play Mortal Kombat but i found this entire video lol, very entertaining way for you to explain the basics too
I don’t really play MK but I needed to know this information
MRGSTAR321 was probably here , hoping it would be Bo Rai Cho.
He’s not bad, it’s just that he’s not as easy and fighting game players are scrubs who go for only the easiest characters that take the least skill
I'm just here to watch you beat Reptile down like continuity's done for decades.
Great video, but I think I'll stick with Cryomancer. Lol.
TRUEUNDERDAWG HOW ARE YOU DOING TODAY MY FRIEND HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING TOO MY FRIEND
YOU ARE VERY WELCOME TOO MY FRIEND
I love your intro music 💯🥇👍
"35% with no meter" proceeds to use one meter in that combo😂😂😂

Ngl I haven’t ran into this variation enough online to give an opinion on it😂 usually I face grandmaster sub and every now and then a cryo
Less used? I mean this is the Variation that dude used to beat Netotigr’s Jacqui.
Apparently there's people, who don't know what they're talking about him, there's no issues, just cause of what he's able to do, doesn't make him "SO BAD".. I'll tell them otherwise, make a point, every single character (including him) has their own unique thing
Unbreakable sub is one of the most fun though
I dont understand fighting games at all but I enjoy MK11 at a very casual level and these vids are really entertaining 👍
