Fellow Terrans, I come to you in the wake of recent events to issue a call to reason. Let no human deny the perils of our time. They mentioned in the Patreon launch stream. I believe it would more likely be a "The state of the galaxy in Supreme Commander" kind of video as opposed to a deteailed breakdown of a single faction.
Question, I was always under the impression that the Confederacy/Dominion, while powerful, were rather tiny and second rate technologically and educationally speaking when compared to the United Earth Directorate, since they were basically the survivors of several colony ships made up of unwanted criminals, and that the UED mostly didn't mess with the Koprulu sector simply due to the distances separating them making it unfeasible to remain in control. Was I wrong?
It takes years even with FTL to make it to the sector. THE UED, had full knowledge of the situation prior to their arrival. Thus probes and scout ships were more than likely sent ahead. Remember the old cutscenes. They had dead zerg to examine. Not to mention. Even in the books, colonies originating from the sector. So they were colonizes, at various stages of development outside the sector. Probably had some if not total contact with the UED. The technological exchanges with Earth and the lost sector. Could help humans progress faster. I would not trust all the Zerg. The Protoss, sure. Zerg, an enemy that wants to play Borg, but worse? No thanks.
They badly fumbled Mengsk in StarCraft 2. The biggest sin in my mind is that they never explained *why* Mengsk abandoned Kerrigan to the Zerg and kinda went the stereotypical lolevul dictator. The reason Mengsk abandoned Kerrigan was because Kerrigan is the one who murdered his family and decapitated his parents and little sister. She obviously didn't remember since Ghosts are routinely mind-wiped, but obviously, to Mengsk, that didn't equate forgiveness. That's why he sprung her from the Confederates. That's why he brought her in to his inner circle, made her second in command, and made her believe that he was a magnanimous father figure; so the betrayal would hurt Kerrigan as much as possible in revenge for murdering his family. Then when the audio file was recovered revealing Mengsks' actions in the first game, the master manipulator, the charismatic benevolent despot, and leader who knew how to weaponize every form of media into the perfect propaganda is left sputtering at the podium during a news broadcast? Declare that it is obviously forged, we have the tech nowadays, we'll have it centuries in the future. Instead he was a bumbling idiot in a spot where he was most comfortable, acting a character in front of the media. And this diatribe isn't because I liked Mengsk, but the fact that he had potential to be an enduring, multi-faceted bad guy with over a decade of time between the games, with official lore posts on websites, two really good books for his history, "Liberty's Crusade" and "I, Mengsk" show that he, like the majority of people, are complicated shades of grey. And they squandered it. You have to be a real idiot to make a master of media into a sputtering moron at something he's excelled at for decades. It's just piss poor story telling.
+ @TheLoneTerran He always wanted her dead or worse than dead for being the ghost who assassinated his dad. Vengance is what drives him. But since she was a powerful Ghost with PSI of 10, he had uses for her before final revenge at New Ghettysburg. But Mengsk was a scion of the Old Families himself, and although he whipped them out with the destruction of Tarsonis and hunting down the rest who managed to escape, he and his Inner Circle in SOK were a product of Old Families habits. His actions were exactly what the Old Families were, mafioso megalomaniacs hell bent on power and control.
@@aracelymoran2504 Mengsk also wanted the Old Families dead so badly he ordered a suicide mission to stall the Protoss from battling the Zerg around Tarsonsis, even though he had already seen that the Protoss will incinerate the surface of a planet to deal with a Zerg infestation. While Mengsk is written as too much of a blunderer in SC2, it is still worth noting that the skillset Mengsk used was worthless once he became Emperor. Knowing how to lie and cheat your way to the top doesn't help you as much when you get there.
@@Vantud391 That is a good comparison. The very mindset Palpatine used to become emperor ensured his downfall because it created enemies faster than they could be killed.
Despite despising Blizzards stupid plot that was Legacy of the Void and generally felt that Starcraft 2 went downhill storywise after WoL I am really glad you made this video, would love to see one about the UED aswell. Plotwise and thematically I love the original Starcraft so much more. A lot will complain probably that I am watching it through nostalgia goggles but back then Mengsk wasn't villain generico like he was in two. He was a cold, calculating man that plotted his entire rise to power far ahead of time and nobody knew it. Then we had the Overmind with its mysterious goal, Samir Duran and his hybrids and a protoss fighting conservatism and reform. Brood War expanded so much on this and with the addition of the UED expanded the Starcraft Universe, The factions where actually a lot more morally grey and not some plot about Xel'Naga being gods and humanity is their successor bullshit. I watched an interview in particular about Starcraft 1 and the focus wasn't individual characters but more the actual politics and war at large. The Terrans were never meant to be some "divine successor" to space gods but were just humans trapped in a conflict larger than them. The protoss were fanatic traditionalist religious templars that faced extinction due to their unwillingness to change and I don't know if I make any sense but you had a feeling of something bigger going on. You were part of a galactic war where generals planned and executed moves but were just individuals that could be killed, although I liked the introduction of the Queen of Blades I hated how she basically became a space saiyan destined to save all.....
Also agree. Starcraft 2 storywise was a huge disappointment. LotV ending was just painfully bad. Kerrigan should not have been redeemed. Her betrayal in Brood War stands as one of of most unforgivable I have seen in any fiction.
I think its the same with halo, 1-3 all fit into the lore and brought a sense of realism to the series. Halo 4 brought in super god beings and it went downhill from there. Starcraft 1 all held to the same rhythm just as wings of liberty did. Then heart of the swarm came around and here come the super god beings.
yep, I heard it too -_-. Sad really, they get some really difficult names, but "Raynor's Raiders" is suddenly to difficult?. Meh, let's just call it a type-o and be done with it.
I'm pretty sure it was pitched that way. or that blizz wanted to make a 40k game and never got the green light on it so they just changed it..... i could've sworn i heard it was about starcraft... especially if you look at the game .. the marines general build.. the zerg - tyranids, protos - eldar , xel naga - old ones etc. parallels. it kind of gives you that impression. but i cannot remember where i read this.. so i'll trust you are right, but damn
Those are just parallels, the two are not connected beyond the tropes. warcraft was the game that came from a falling out between GW and Blizzard, not SC. there was never going to be a 40K game by Blizzard, this is a myth.
Originally Blizzard did do a demo game for a WarHammer 40k rts and gave it to GW who then promptly told them to piss off then GW tried to sue Blizzard over Starcraft but the court's saw enough of a difference that it never happened and Blizzard was smart enough to secure their franchise but GW then had Relic make the DoW series just to piss on Blizzard when it failed they had Relic dismantled and that's among the many reasons I no longer play WarHammer 40k.
"Ryan's Raiders" lol. Even though the music was a bit off at times (sountrack from the game itself would've fit perfect) and there was the mispronunciation, still went full fangirl to see the Terran Dominion from SC show up on the channel. Love the work so far, and everyone makes mistakes :)
While I understand the reasons of it, from the world building point of view it was extremely strange when the UED, for some reasons, had the exact same types of spaceships and ground vehicles as the Koprulu Terrans, even though the Koprulu tech had been evolving separately for centuries.

Well sir you see in this universe there are often things that can be ascertained of value, this is a great many a things so to fairly acquire and give away these items a universal standard, for which is used to purchase items, is made. This is known as currency or worth. And when judged by the Emperor it has been decided that because they refuse to engage in glorious melee combat and would rather shoot you from miles away that the TAU ARE WORTHLESS. *This explanation was sanctified by the Ordo Hereticus and as such any opposing argument is not only wrong but also heretical and we'll extermanartis your home system*
Alright you got me, this video did an amazing job of explaining and looking at the Terran Dominion in the Starcraft Universe. I am actually impressed for how in depth it gets. You just recieved a new subscriber, I will now take a look at the IoM that you put up. Hopefully it is as in depth as this one.
“You don’t seem to realize my situation here. I will not be stopped. Not by you two, or the Confederates, or the Protoss or anyone! I will rule this sector or see it burnt to ashes around me.”
I'd like to see one on the Zerg swarm, there is some massive changes pre Brood wars, brood wars and under the queen of blades that would be great to cover. I personally love the fact that before the death of the Hivemind, each brood had a task and purpose within the Zerg order of battle. It was not merely a swarm, it's cerebrates were field marshals, specialised in their own right for instance: Garm (orange zerg) was a moderately sized, moderate quality brood, it had numbers, and a decent enough investment in quality and command and control, it was the first swarm to engage the enemy forces head on utilising combined arms warfare and close coordination between different unit types, Garm is the most versitile 'battle line' broods.(there is also essentially a fleet arm swarm(red) and even a special forces brood(white) ) Jorgmundur (purple zerg) was the largest brood, its numbers were vast, it invested all materials and command and control into bringing more numbers to the field. Jorgmundur was second in the hivemind's battle order. If enemy defences prove to be too tough for Garm, the unrelenting hammer of Jorgmundur's numbers would fall upon it. Lorewise I'd expect say, Jorgmundur zerglings to be inferior to Garm zerglings in a head on fight, but you might make 2 Garm zergling and 3 Jorgmundur zerglings for the same investment of resources.
Wait a second the Terran Dominion does not include Holy Terra? Foolish Imperium rip offs can't even get the names right. (The second part is a joke, no one get too pissed please)
Man oh man is this the lore driven content that makes me fall in love with StarCraft. I don't care about the online play so much, but I must have played through the story of each game 10+ times. Forget the dominion though, I wanna see a version of this on the Protoss, but I'm pretty sure there isn't enough facts available for as detailed a video.
Did anyone ever wonder if Mengsk did the things he did in SC2 not because he was a "traitor to the movement" but because he realized that the only real way humanity was going to survive at the time was with an iron fist to prop it up? I mean hard times need strong men with strong methods to get things done?Or that maybe just maybe he saw what was comming and was desperate to stop it? #IwaswithMengsk #Mengskbecamethedemonweneededtoslay
"You'll regret that! You don't seem to realize my situation here! I will not be stopped! Not by you, or the Confederates, or the Protoss, or *ANYONE!* I will rule this sector or see it burnt to ashes around me!" - Arcturus Mengsk, declaring the rise of the Terran Dominion
Wow. Terran Dominion are beautiful place. 5:43 Cool, poster with symbol Terran Dominion. No wonder how Terran Dominion have Honor Guard elite troops, a lot of squads and powerful technology weapons from Moebius Foundation research.
Hell...it's about time! Been waiting on you for this! Another great video with kickass background music. Gonna have to enjoy this later with a glass of Ol' Scotty Bolger's No. 8.
Ahhh! Been waiting for the Terran Dominion. Arcturus Mengsk is such a good example of a man who has no loyalty but to himself. A better politician than a military leader too. He lost Kolhar, lost to the Zerg, lost to the Protoss, and then lost to the Zerg again. Still, he made a great villain. He was on par with Emperor Palpatine for ruthlessness.
Just another reason to hate Jim Raynor. "Hey guys, I know we're dealing with an existential threat in the Zerg right now, but my morals say I should risk humanity's extinction just so I can tear down the person in power I don't agree with".
and then he allies with the being that killed billions in the previous chapter and millions more in the very episode he allied with her in. Raynor is complicit in like 3 different genocides over the course of the franchise.
Yep, and this episode, which judging from past videos should either unbiased or lean slightly towards the subject of the video, instead acts like all these things were justified.
Original SC story: Humans have no FTL tech, colonists are frozen in stasis, ATLAS (colony ships) navigation breaks down and by accident they land in Korpulu Sector, isolated from the Earth completely. Brood War story: Earth knows, Earth flies in to intervene. Magic. (While still basically using the same tech and design, plus medics and valkyries and better missiles in goliaths - which were designed by the Kel-Morian Combine.) Not even considering that early in the BW Zerg campaign you are shown that Tassadar's whole noble sacrifice was useless.
The time has come my fellow Terrans to rally to a new banner. In unity lies strength; already many of the dissident factions have joined us. Out of the many we shall forge an indivisible whole capitulating only to a single throne. And from that throne, I shall watch over you.
nice video guys, I really love the quality that you put in your work,I would like to see if you guys can describe the SCP foundation if it is possible of course
Why on Earth did you guys choose the runt of the three main Terran factions? The Terran Confederacy created most of the Terran military technology, and the United Earth Directorate was the strongest Terran faction. The latter literally plowed the Dominion into the dirt in the span of 4 battles. The Confederacy has a lot of lore back in the Starcraft 1 manual, especially concerning the start of Terran civilization on the Koprulu Sector AND the Guild Wars, while the UED's activities are all over Brood War since their entry into the Koprulu Sector was the driving force of 2/3rds of Brood War's plot. You guys would get a lot more mileage if you chose the UED or the Confederacy for a video.

who the faction ,i presume UED from the song of it?
+Beta Stilter
This is Mengsk's speech at the end of the Sons of Korhal campaign.
SkyTech RTS ahhh i see, thank you for it,i honestly thought it the UED due to despite they gray moral, they truly want to help abit they a little naive about certain thing
Nah UED is better
This one felt surprisingly long. Especially with how you managed to fit in some facts on the other factions. One point off cause of ‘Ryan’s Raiders’. Honest criticism isn’t bias by any means.
u bias mo fo
I hope there's more content in the future in StarCraft for Earth and their territories.
yeah, i wish starcraft made UED story better rather than just appearing, capturing few worlds and getting beaten up back to earth
"I will not be stopped! Not by you or the Confederates or the Protoss or anyone! I will rule this sector or see it burnt to ashes around me."
Badass boast
5:58 "Ryan's raiders" ah of course the infamous Ryan's raiders led by jim raynor
Jim Ryan*
come on its Andrew Ryan

Decepticons (Transformers)
Cybrids (Earthsiege/Starsiege/Tribes)
The Gorn hegemony (Star Trek)
The Empire of the Hand (Star Wars Legends)
Thanks for the Dominion episode, your usual sharp professionalism was most welcome.
Got my vote.
Also, I’d be curious to see how (if at all) they’d tackle “Life Is Strange”…
For aiur! For the swarm! (Please complete the triumvirate and gives us an analysis of the zerg and protoss)
Andrew West agreed
Thank you so much for covering Star Craft. My favorite Sci-fi series before I discovered Mass Effect.
Hey you know that guy Ryan? Yeah, i heard Ryan has his own Raiders now
"Is this peace just another interlude to war?" Well, they do need to sell more video games, so I'm thinking yes...
I mean you're not wrong
I will not be stopped. Not by you, or the Confederates, or the Protoss, or anyone! I will rule this sector or see it burnt to ashes around me! - Arcturus I
Balls...Balls everywhere! I *heart* SC franchise since the day Gundams were battling across the Koprolu Sector.
girl, you were what drew me to watch these to begin with. I will be sorry to not hear more from you. hope your new career bring you happiness. you genuinely deserve it.
Since you guys are doing RTS factions. You gotta do the UEF or any factions from Supreme commander.
UEF UNITE!
RazgrizOne, The Cybran and Ayon need to be looked at as well if you suggest the UEF
Yeah, thats why I said any factions from Supreme commander.
Other than the intro movie and the odd line here and there....There really isnt any lore behind the Supcom factions.
They mentioned in the Patreon launch stream. I believe it would more likely be a "The state of the galaxy in Supreme Commander" kind of video as opposed to a deteailed breakdown of a single faction.
Do one over the zerg swarm. It's something I don't think we've seen much of on this channel and would be an interesting topic to cover
The way you guys are presenting all these factions and people is all but superb
@@dragonstormxbasicly StarCraft's Palpatine.
100% agreed, sick of the overly large grandiose heroes of magic and gods nonsense that they keep doing with Sci Fi.
Thank you so much for doing the terrans, I waited so long for StarCraft.
"I can't wait to get out of this chicken shit outfit!" - Terran Marine
"Still stuck in this chicken shit outfit" - Starcraft 2 Marine
"i'm about to drop the hammer" - siege tank
Wrong. It was Pvt Hudson who said "how do I get out of this chicken shit outfit?" Also, Hicks was a Corporal, not a Private.
"Ryan's Raiders." Really man? Really?
yep, I heard it too -_-. Sad really, they get some really difficult names, but "Raynor's Raiders" is suddenly to difficult?. Meh, let's just call it a type-o and be done with it.
OH JESUS CHRIST NO!!!!
I bet autocorrect made the script "Raynor" into Ryan, and it got missed. These things happen. Its not the end of the world
Human Domain, the poor man's Imperium.
considering starcraft started as a warhammer 40k game.. haha
+Attila Kos
This is not accurate, that was Warcraft for Warhammer Fantasy, SC was always supposed to be SC.
Thank you Templin for putting it out. Now do something for Warcraft and Wing Commander.
I'd say the Covenant from Halo would be an excellent topic. Very interesting and diverse faction.
"Guys like me don't get second chances darl'n. We only get to finish what we started." ~ J. Raynor.
This is the single best video on this topic!!
I'm glad I found your channel!

I don't know man, it's like you're trying to tell me something here, something about the worth of the Tau. I'm not really sure. Can you explain to me again?
Well sir you see in this universe there are often things that can be ascertained of value, this is a great many a things so to fairly acquire and give away these items a universal standard, for which is used to purchase items, is made. This is known as currency or worth. And when judged by the Emperor it has been decided that because they refuse to engage in glorious melee combat and would rather shoot you from miles away that the TAU ARE WORTHLESS.
*This explanation was sanctified by the Ordo Hereticus and as such any opposing argument is not only wrong but also heretical and we'll extermanartis your home system*

"Outstanding!" - Terran Marine
*Bursts in wearing Ultramarines Power Amor * FOR THE EMPER...I knew I shouldn't have taken that left turn in Albukuaky
It was not merely a swarm, it's cerebrates were field marshals, specialised in their own right for instance:
Garm (orange zerg) was a moderately sized, moderate quality brood, it had numbers, and a decent enough investment in quality and command and control, it was the first swarm to engage the enemy forces head on utilising combined arms warfare and close coordination between different unit types, Garm is the most versitile 'battle line' broods.(there is also essentially a fleet arm swarm(red) and even a special forces brood(white) )
Jorgmundur (purple zerg) was the largest brood, its numbers were vast, it invested all materials and command and control into bringing more numbers to the field.
The UED controls Earth, the Dominion doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of contending that world.
Wrong empire, dipstick.
UED controls Earth.
Chief it takes a long ass time to get to earth it not happening.
Protoss video would be cool
Marin Ciprijan Entaru tassada.
For Aiur
That would require additional pylons.
Not enough minerals
I might already know this lore, but i really appreciated your presentation of it.
HELL YES, STARCRAFT STUFF! I'd been hoping you'd touch their factions for a while ^^
Once again, an excellent dive into a subject, not previously known personally.
A different tack with the music, creates a different feel.
Let's all remember that the Dominion is alive and well in Starcraft. Hopefully Valerian will be a much less tyrannical ruler than his father.
The UED is still out there as well.
4:32 the capital was names after his father, not off mengsk.
they need a Starcraft tv series
Himajama you again
Homeworld please oh wise Templin-sama!
"You'll regret that! You don't seem to realize my situation here! I will not be stopped! Not by you, or the Confederates, or the Protoss, or *ANYONE!* I will rule this sector or see it burnt to ashes around me!"
- Arcturus Mengsk, declaring the rise of the Terran Dominion
I can't not read "Nuclear Launch Detected" in the Overmind's voice.
"My Dominion, right or wrong."
-Some Dominion Trooper/Laborer
Don't know why, but I really like the music. Far more than the others which I never really did notice.
"Don't do this, Arcturus!"
"It is done"
arcturus got what he deserved in the end.
Just a helpful vocabulary tip a combined arms approach is when you throw everything from the kitchen sink to nukes at your enemy.
I gotta say I truly enjoy these uploads, great work. I would love to see you folks do something on the Metabaron please.
One of the most interesting sci-fi organizations to come out of videogames IMHO, right up there with NOD.
I don't know about the soundtrack!
yeah it seems way too upbeat and happy. They should have used some of the actual game soundtrack.
Terran Theme
I say the soundtrack fits. It matches the ragtag vibes the Terran themselves and is a homage to the Starcraft Terran theme.
Agreed, it also needs a -20% volume modifier
Empire of the Isles from Dishonored, please?
Wow. Terran Dominion are beautiful place. 5:43 Cool, poster with symbol Terran Dominion. No wonder how Terran Dominion have Honor Guard elite troops, a lot of squads and powerful technology weapons from Moebius Foundation research.
Now all we need to see now is a video on the Protoss
Can y'all do the Institute in Fallout 4?or maybe the NCR
Interesting change of tone and pace, I liked it.
Awesome.
I Love StarCraft. And this was the best of your Videos. Thank you very much.
Hell...it's about time! Been waiting on you for this! Another great video with kickass background music. Gonna have to enjoy this later with a glass of Ol' Scotty Bolger's No. 8.
Earth Federation, Principality of Zeon, Londo Bell, Neo Zeon (x3)
Either of these (But rly EFF or Zeon tho)
At least Terran Dominion isnt corrupted as Warhammer’s Imperium of Man
Ah finally, some Starcraft. Now we just need to get Spacedock on this train...
I'd love to see one on the Protoss Empire. For the Conclave!
@@Gustav_Kuriga He should have just poisoned Arcturus' tea and signed on with his son.
Ah, yes, everyone knows about Ryan's Raiders! XD
I truly love these videos, they bring me great joy.
0:20 Greatest nation of Humanity? The UED beg to differs...
And here I am groovin' along with background music.
Original SC story: Humans have no FTL tech, colonists are frozen in stasis, ATLAS (colony ships) navigation breaks down and by accident they land in Korpulu Sector, isolated from the Earth completely.
Brood War story: Earth knows, Earth flies in to intervene. Magic. (While still basically using the same tech and design, plus medics and valkyries and better missiles in goliaths - which were designed by the Kel-Morian Combine.)
Not even considering that early in the BW Zerg campaign you are shown that Tassadar's whole noble sacrifice was useless.
Yess! More, please! I would love to hear about all the Blizzard lore!
I would love to see them cover the Mobius Foundation.
Another good video, and my suggestion for the next episode is the Realm of Alera from Jim Butcher's "Codex Alera" series.
Awsome videos, in depth and informative. Would like to see gears or war in the future
The Templin Institute should do an episode on the SCP Foundation.
Corrupted Archangel Oh Hell yes. or maybe a dossier on one of the major SCP's like 049 or one of the doc's like Bright.
The time has come my fellow Terrans to rally to a new banner. In unity lies strength; already many of the dissident factions have joined us. Out of the many we shall forge an indivisible whole capitulating only to a single throne. And from that throne, I shall watch over you.
“Damn you Arcturus! Don’t do this!”
4:32 Just a little clarification. Arcturus didn't name Augustgrad in his own honor, but in his grandfather's, Augustus Mengsk.
Now do a Planetside 2 faction. The lore behind each is awesome.
Can you talk about the factions of planetside2 in future vídeos.
Perfect choice of music!
Awesome video! You guys should do one on the moebius corporation
I notice some people don't like the music but it actually fits perfectly with Terran. Listen to the original Terran themes.
nice video guys, I really love the quality that you put in your work,I would like to see if you guys can describe the SCP foundation if it is possible of course
Make a video about Yuuzhan Vong Empire ;-)
You guys would get a lot more mileage if you chose the UED or the Confederacy for a video.
surprised they haven't covered The UED (United Earth Directorate) and how messed up ZA WAURDO is
