That is a nice flea market find.
Yes it was. There were a few keepers and a lot of "projects" in the lot I purchased. More to come - Dennis
Hi Dennis,
Lots of great memories w this Senator ! Very satisfying...
Continued Best Wishes,
Cons
Thanks Cons - Will call you this week! (hopefully). Dennis
Always appreciate your videos, Dennis. I got into repairing old reels while recovering from Covid a couple of years ago and I learned a lot from watching you work.
Happy to have helped inspire you. Enjoy the reel repair, but remember to take them fishing! Dennis
When it comes to Saltwater Reel you can’t hardly beat a Penn .
That is their niche. They have been making saltwater reels for over 80 years and they know what they are doing - Thanks Bobby - Dennis
Excellent Job Dennis!
Glad you liked it! Thank you - Dennis
Hello Dennis, I received one of these reels from my grandad, it says made in Japan on the bottom but I can’t identify it, are there any videos on how one of these reels work and how to use it? Thanks 🙏
Penn never made the Senator reel in Japan. It is likely that you have a copy of the Penn reel made by Olympic and sold under several brands including Kmart as the Oceanside and Olympic as the Dolphin.
It would work similar to the Penn reel, but it is not a Penn Reel - Dennis
This reel appears to have a steel main gear. When I look on the Schematic for a 112H and a Jigmaster 500 they both have the same part number 5-500, yet my Jigmasters have a bronze main.
I noticed the same on a LongBeach video of yours, steel main gear yet the LongBeach 267 and 268 I have share the same part number yet are bronze. Was there a point in time that Penn switched production to bronze main gears yet kept the same part number?
Keep up the great videos coming.
Yes - there were different alloys used at various times for the main gear. Thanks for noticing and for asking - The bronze or brass gears are more quiet but prone to wear. The steel gear are harder and more noisy as a result - Dennis
a nice ole classic!
Yes it is. And made in the USA too!
Hi Dennis one question i heard transmission fluid has a lubricant that stops rust. Can i use it for the out side of the reel and the guides.
I would not do that. One reason is the smell. The other is that I do not know what else may be in it that could hurt the rod and reel rather than help it. - I would use something like Penn's rod and reel cleaner instead. - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle thank you for taking the time to respond. I really use your channel for any reference on any reel I find. I've been watching your Channel for 5 years.
