    • @epiphonesg007

      Port area is too small if you are going to power it over 20W below 40Hz.
      The port will cause chuffing, especualll in dynamic movie scenes.
      Ive recently built a portable bluetooth speaker with 2 6.5inch woofers (xmax of only 9mm), I used a 110mm (little over 4 inch)port tuned to 36Hz and below 40hz and over 80W of power you can hear the port slightly. (Which is ok, since the portable amp will only be 100W)
      Small narrow ports also make the port more prone to port noise.
      I would go over a 5 to 1 ratio (width to height), unless the port is at least 25% larger then necessary.
      WinIsd is a great free program for modeling drivers under power.

      @jimthesoundman8641 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@epiphonesg007 I agree, the port is too narrow. That's why most ports you see are circles or squares. You can even make triangular shaped dual ports in each of the bottom corners. In most speaker design programs, you can play around with the size of the port, and the length of the port, and the number of ports, to find something that works well.

    I'm 67, and watching this makes my blood pressure go down (I suffer from hypertension). I've done many things in my lifetime, but building a set of speakers or a subwoofer is something I've always wanted to do. I really enjoyed your video and soon plan to make an attempt at building something I can be proud of. Well Done John.

    Dont use fiberglass to stuff the subwoofer. The fibers will be blown out and airborne into the air you breathe.

    • @Grommet2007
      @Grommet2007 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Wrapping the fiberglass in t-shirt material will stop this from happening. Or you could just use polyester fiberfill instead.

    Very cool! I love the look of OSB (it has a calming effect on me somehow) and have had fantasies of building something like that. Maybe with an epoxy finish instead of sanding to hopefully make it smooth while trying to maintain the sense of depth. 5/5, would woof again. Woof!

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Stimpy&Ren I was talking about using OSB in general as a design element, not necessarily for speakers. But using OSB for speakers is just fine if you deal with the resonance by other means. What difference does "high quality" in "baltic birch" make in a speaker?

IF the outputs are 4 ohm connecting 6 or 8 ohm speakers is usually OK 🆗 Love your vids and awesome workshop
