Don't recall how I became a Skinner megafan here in Canada (unsuccessful in starting a "Skinheads" club for some reason) .. but 30+ years later, I'm still happy to drop everything and give him a listen.
Always pleased to see you doing well Chris, I was your front of house manager when you were a volunteer box office worker for a while when we were both at the Triangle, doing our drinking at the Sack of Spuds, where you would often make us laugh.
I’m from West Brom and my sister an avid WBFc supporter. Always like Seeing Frank and happy of his success , but found out thing from this interview that I never knew, never mentioned his drinking and sobriety which I was surprised about. Well done Frank…nice hear from you.
Frank is such a great communicator and this sort of thing seems so easy to him. Really miss the radio show already - such a great bunch of people. I hope they are given other avenues to continue
Saw him at Jongleurs in London with some London friends when I certainly didn't know him. As a Bham-born West Brom fan with a bit of inferiority complex at the time, the fact that he absolutely stormed it and crushed the opposition that night was immensely gratifying, and made me a fan ever since. Thanks Frank.
Approx 5:29 mins in: Yes!! That radio show was THE BEST moment of Saturday mornings. Honestly it really needs to cary on in some shape or form. With respect to Absolute, in my opinion, you let go of an absolute (excuse the pun) gem!!! Please, somebody keep this show going!
Really enjoyed this conversation between two exceptional people. Saw Frank's stand up show at the Leeds Playhouse recently which was brilliantly spontaneous and hilarious.
Got tickets to see Frank in Birmingham in November never seen him live,im sure he Will be great always been a great stand up,loved his radio show can't wait 👍
Frank has what I'd call Comedy Tourettes. There's no gap between him hearing something and him coming back with something funny. He's hard-wired funny. I'm 100% as funny as Frank ...... if you give me about 12 hours to think about a funny reply. (My life is a series of "Why didn't I say that back then?" moments) and it's why my Standup shows would need to be 24 hours long, with very long silent pauses.
L’esprit de l’escalier! I love that expression - “spirit of the stairs”, when you think of a perfect retort once you’ve left the room and you’re half way up the stairs 😂
The Monster Raving Loony party are changing its name to avoid accidental association with the Tories. And Count Binface has refused the offer of a coalition with Sunak for fear of "looking silly"
Yay!!! Frank Skinner!!! An INTERnational absolute pleasure! (I'm American) i still laugh at the blooper video he did with Tim Key on series 1 of Taskmaster.
I'm a US citizen. I've never heard of Frank Skinner. But I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation between James and Frank!! Two very intelligent adults with great comedic timing. I kept thinking that Robin Williams would have been great in this Convo except Robin would have had difficulty containing his high energy level. But he would have loved these two!
As always with Frank Skinner, so much honesty, intelligence and insight. Love what he said about the barrier presented by a West Midlands accent and getting people to look beyond that. Having grown up in Walsall and working in education, its still a very real misconception.
dunno why hes playing that nonsense victim card, was bigger brummies before and after frank. jasper and lennie and ozzy to name but 3, never heard them say such things. franks funny but an old man since 1990 lol
I remember Frank at a place in Bearwood and later at the MAC, then the compare for the comedy night that introduced some great comedians, what a laugh. There were lots of references to stuff in Birmingham, I remember one routine about the buskers that was hilarious.
Frank, in his socks with red toes and heels, swivelling his foot. This could turn into Haiku! I do like him. I met him only on TH-cam, itv artist of the year.
I met Frank Skinner in Edinburgh one time and told him 'its never coming home' as a bit of banter, and he was just about crying, his jack the lad persona was just an act
@@tynebar it's pretty self explanatory Edinburgh during term time lots of students as there are 2 or 3 universities and 4 or more colleges, they have holidays ,the students go home during those holidays, the fringe happens during those holidays. So speaking as someone from Edinburgh there is less students about ,by quite a large margin ,during the festival and the fringe.
I remember frank skinner (and sean hughes) on the just for laughs Montreal comedy festival and in particular frank doing a joke about unlocking a dogs jaw by putting his finger somewhere inappropriate (one of his hands as the dogs mouth and the other the finger insertion.)
They will forgive you anything except unmerited success or success they think is unmerited, which is a rather different thing. Because there is only so much space for an actor or comedian or artist or musician or writer for every one that makes it thousands don't and so people applaud success but hate it when they think it blocks real talent.
I can never join the dots between this slightly sycophantic James O'Brien to the more bully-like figure he becomes when he talks to the public. I hope this is the real him.
Watch the Shaun Atwood and Jon Wedger interview. David Badiel and Frank Skinner are shown in a clip during that interview making a joke about Jimmy Saville. That ‘joke’ reveals just how well Saville’s heinous proclivities were known. What an excuse for a human being. Enjoy your retirement, Frank. May sleep escape you, like your one time comedy partner.
That thumbnail has annoyed me so much I had to come in just to stop it appearing. No offence Frank, but I can't spend one second listening to Jobbie. For the record, I've never begrudged Frank his success, and I find it hard to believe anybody would. Nobody deserves it more than him, I'd say, so I don't know where he's coming from. I have noticed he talks about his success, quite a bit, and it can be charming at times, but mostly it's just unrelatable, and frank was always a relatable comic. I look at Gervais, and Billy Connolly, as two comics who comment on their fame with success. Gervais was never relatable, so it's almost a natural progression for him, and Connolly always laughed at the craziness of it all, but he was talking about Hollyweird, and that's a different kind of success.
Would love my hero, and he is, James to have taken Nicola Sturgeon for an interview. . But as they say there ye go. Show them a photo of a campervan and a party with forensics tents and ye ye go.
Frank's got it all wrong as per usual. People don't mind you being successful what they object to it's you shoving their face in your success and flouting your success and wealth in front of the entire world.
Pretty sure Skinner and his crew were expensive. So the maths will eventually get rid of him once the figures stop making sense. That is commercial radio.
Don't recall how I became a Skinner megafan here in Canada (unsuccessful in starting a "Skinheads" club for some reason) .. but 30+ years later, I'm still happy to drop everything and give him a listen.
I was only lamenting the loss of Frank’s radio show this morning so this is a real treat.
Blame Emily. Unbearable.
Emily... !.. OK. ? Over to you in the studio .. your witness she did my head in
You probably know by now, but Mr Frank now has a Podcast with Emily and Pierre.
true but he also got rid of that alan bloke which i thought was pretty bad.

one of the best British stand-up comedians of all time imho
love listening to Frank talk. Such a chilled man. He is just awesome
Agree. Shame about James O'Brien. He grates on me so much!
Great chat. Frank needs to be back on the airwaves! His Saturday morning show was the funniest thing on the radio.
what was the show?
he turns up on radio four/four extra from time to time
but only in short stints...

I like the way you conduct your interviews. Very casual and respectful. Jane, Philadelphia

Nice conversation. I like these Full Disclosure videos!
James and Frank - loved this chat!!!
Fun time Frankie: a national treasure.
This could have gone on for several hours for me. Thankyou.
There’s a huge vacancy in my Saturday morning routines now. Terrible decision to let Frank go in my opinion.
Absolutely. Was a wee treasure

Frank is brilliant. Glad he's back. So funny. Big love, kindest regards, Richard U.K

Liked Frank's Saturday show, but it didn't feel the same after Alan cochrane left
This was hard to watch, Frank skinner is Fantastic. I just cannot stand James O’Brien!
Me and Frank both have something in common… we were both threatened to be ‘knocked out’ by former TV host Mathew Kelly! Ah those were the days eh.
You’ve got to follow up with that story. What happened?

Radio execs have turned radio into a bland grey sameness, too scared to take risks. Frank was a breath of fresh air and they don't like that at all.

Frank Skinner is great but people get envious over all sorts of things - not just success - anyone who does better than they do basically.
How many people really resent other people's success? Surely fewer than Frank thinks.
