100% agree , also wasn't a huge fan of the costume design , like i loved dee dees yellow cape but the rest of her costumes were just not right , that purple dress she wears at the start should have been gold it would fit much better with her character and would look nice with her hair and makeup
a lot of people are saying that the Netflix version is the 'straightest queer movie ever' and i kind of get that tbh. even though the material is pretty much the same, the musical seems to have a different, less hettie vibe?? Perhaps because the movie seemed to have even less of the lesbians than in the musical - how could they CUT THEIR BIT in You Happened?? The audacity!!! As a result, I didn't feel the same chemistry between Emma and Alyssa; for me, they just didn't click in the same way as in the musical.
I agree! I think one of the things they should have done was cast more LGBTQ+ actors, I think it would have added more depth to their portrayal of the characters
Also I wasn’t involved in their relationship in the film like I couldn’t care less that they broke up as I didn’t know them. But the stage show I was sobbing my heart out 💜
oh i was barely familiar with the staged version so i guess i kind of just passively accepted the movie?? but now im fully team musical prom live theatre just does it better
I enjoyed the movie, buuuut I was very upset that they cut You Happened, and also I felt like the interpretation of Emma in the movie was less introverted and awkward, which is something I loved about her in the musical. Also Andrew Rannels was fantastic
I watched it the other day after seeing the movie for the first time last week and reading how much the show was better. I LOVED it and wanted to watch it with the wife today.... :( fingers crossed a new tutorial gets loaded.
Omg the Broadway performance was more more cute huhu thanks for posting a clip of it their costumes and raw emotions huhu so this is the beauty of a love performance that they talk about
This is just... so amazing!! The acting in the show, the heart that every person put into is so visible on screen, and Emma as a character??? DO NOT GET ME STARTED I LOVE HER!! As someone who lives in India, knowing I'll never get to see this show, this video really made my day!! Thank you!
ngl I was just gonna skim thru the movie for andrew rannells’ parts but decided to give the whole thing a shot and........I was disappointed with a whole bunch of things :( besides the fact that I wish they casted the original broadway cast (or at least an actual gay man instead of james corden), I feel like emma and alyssa’s relationship wasn’t developed as well as it was in the musical, which sucks because their relationship is kinda the thing that spurred all the events in the show all that being said, I’m still glad people are getting into the musical because of the movie, but as someone who saw the musical first, the movie was.....meh in comparison
Actually no they usually punch up with their hands together at the end. And I think because it's their last Caitlin and Izzy just went for it. The second kiss is the cutest ever omg
actually no! that was the last performance so its not typical. same with the claps in "Build a Prom" and the cat onesie in the scene right before Zazz. Some of the clips are just because the cast improved quite a bit in the last show
@@broadwaybiscuit8125 yea it was so funny. I felt bad for people that saw the show for the first time during the last show. Cause there were so many jokes during the last performance because of the changes!
Thank you so much for making this. I loved the Broadway show so much that I knew the movie wouldn't live up to it, so I did my best to go watch with an open mind. There is just something beautifully raw about the emotions and acting choices made in live theatre that can't be replicated in a movie format. I thought that the movie was good, but I was sad about some of the things they chose to cut and change. Overall, I'm glad that there are more people joining the Unruly Hearts Club. I really hope at least some of them will get to experience the full brilliance of the show when it tours.
yes! i really did try to give it the benefit of the doubt. but the musical deserve so much better. it was like they changed the meaning or the movie. it felt like it wasn’t really like the broadway stars and emma friendship or emma’s and alyssa relationship. and the jokes did not work in the movie. some things only really work in live theatre. everything you said is true. i really hope they cast the same people for the tour :/
I really want to see full version of this musical.... Unfortunately, we dont something that called broadway here, while im a sucker for musical.... I only can rely on the movie version or what ever you guys posted on youtube!! Thanks for posting this...
I personally loved the film. I absolutely adored it and it's become my comfort film but the things that annoyed me was the fact that in a 2 hour and 12 minute film, there was only 12 minutes of alyssa and emma (but honestly, I loved Jo and Ariana and I genuinely thought they had chemistry, they just needed more of a chance to show it). They also sort of made it seem like DeeDee and Barry were the main characters and made Emma feel like a side character. But all in all, I personally loved it and thought they did really well. I loved everyone. I understand James Corden was a little controversial but I think he did a great job considering he was cast and that's that. Although they could've got someone like Neil Patrick Harris to play Barry, they didn't. So I think the Corden hate has to chill. I understand that him playing a very femme, stereotypical gay came off as a bit forced and a little rude but I genuinely don't think he deserves the hate. The film made me feel seen and heard and represented in a way I haven't before. I love the characters, the songs, the routines, the overall story. I thought it was done really well, but damn do I wish I could see it on stage.
ive watched the prom bway so much now that ive noticed every single details that theyve changed in the movie and let me tell you there’s so many funny things that they missed that made me hate the movie version
literally. in my opinion, the jokes didn’t work in the movie. they tried to keep some of the jokes but it just made it look corny. and barry in the musical was not funny at all.
I watched the pre-Broadway boot a while ago, and saw the movie, and cried at both. The song Unruly Heart regardless of context makes me cry every single time, and the movie had me BAWLING. I truly loved both and think that they serve similar but different purposes-many folks are right, the focus of the movie was different than the focus of the play, but they both were still good! I’m a big fan of The Prom n whatever form!!
I love this and I was at the performance in some of these clips because so much of this is from the final performance. Hence the cat onesie. Pretty sure everyone laughed for a good few minutes when Caitlin entered. I wish we got a pro shot of the show
I played Emma in this musical last June and I could not for the life of me get though the last part of Unruly Heart without sobbing, because the entire ensemble standing behind me BOOMING in harmony filled me with so much emotion for this ALREADY HELLA EMOTIONAL song. Luckily it added to the feelings for the audience (I already miss doing this show with the amazing cast we had SO MUCH)
honestly I love Meryl Streep and I would watch her doing anything for 3h straight, but I feel like they made Dee Dee kind of the protagonist of the story. And some jokes were cut out or just didn't work in the script. The actings were great, but Emma had a smile in her face the whole fucking movie, and I don't know why but the settings didn't feel natural to me (not to mention YOU HAPPENED)
I liked the movie, it was cute an enjoyable but I wish they hadn’t cut parts of songs and added storylines. I feel like it took away from the Emma/Alyssa storyline which should have been the main focus
OH THiS IS MAGIC! Yes, I saw the broadway cast in 2018 and fell in LOVE! The movie is glitzy, but nothing beats the original broadway cast. Thank you so much for this! You made may day! (well, longer, as I put this on loop for forever).
I remember when I first watched a prom slime and I couldn't stop smiling!! I have a similar body type to the actress who played emma and I had never felt more represented :')
Emma was literally smile the whole movie even in the sad scenes! It was so frustrating also I wish that Emma had been played by Caitlin Kinnunun (the actor here)
I agree! It threw me off so much. Like I get it she was trying to stay positive but even when she was crying she seemed happy. And that break up scene was so bad how she just smiled the entire time.
exactly, a line like "I don't know what to do, I'm so scared" delivered really flatly with a wide smile on her face feels so weird. I really didn't like her portrayal but to be fair it is her first big acting gig and I'm sure she'll improve.
Thank you for this i am now in love with this version of emma she's so cute i can't. Also i jumped at the kiss and i knew it was coming i got so excited lmao i wanna watch the whole thing now
Thank you so much for posting this, whoever you are. I've cherished this show since I saw it on stage, and seeing these clips brought it all back and reminded me of how insanely happy the show made me feel. However, unlike so many here, I do like the movie, too. For me, it captured the spirit of pure joy that in the original sent me out of the theatre on a thrilling high. There's nothing quite like live theatre. But I love movies almost as well, though in a different way. Each is a distinct experience, and so the pleasures to be had are different. The movie is incredibly well done. At first, I was hugely disappointed that Caitlin Kinnunen, who was absolute perfection on Broadway, wasn't cast, and struggled to figure out why in the world Ryan Murphy felt he needed to go with someone else. Generally, when translating a stage musical to the screen, replacements with bigger names are often deemed necessary (usually for understandable financial business reasons), but he already had Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman, two of the biggest draws in all of film, and it's not like Jo Ellen Pellman is exactly a household name. So the rationale behind this decision made little sense to me. Yet I ended up liking Pellman very much; she's quite lovely and has a beautiful singing voice - a real find, I think. But as others have noted, the central relationship has been short-changed, and that's a real disappointment. Still, there's all that glorious singing and dancing and color and joy practically bursting off the screen - and that's not nothing. I'm sure I will be watching it again and again when I need a pick-me-up.
i agree my favorite highlight of the movie is andrew ranell’s singing love thy neighbor and the It’ Time to Dance song for both onstage and the movie !
Sooo im going to Cleveland on nov 7 and I can't wait.!!!! I dident go to my senior prom. I came out and was very depressed and pissed because of my life (1999). Soooo this will be my prom to remember. I ammm soooo excited.
I’m a bit late I haven’t actually watched the musical so I’m not one to compare but I feel like the movie was a bit eh-. This just feels more lively and energetic. The movie was funny at times but it just lacks a lot of zazz. Andrew Rannells singing Love Thy Neighbour was definitely the best part of the movie for me.
I miss this show so much! I saw it a week before the soundtrack came out and I’ve been obsessed ever since! It’s my favorite broadway show by a long shot. I don’t have Netflix though so I can’t watch the new movie which makes me really sad. Even if the movie isn’t good, I still would at least be able to see the characters again
The thing that strikes me about this video is the comments from the creator about how much this show and the actors impacted them. That's the power of acting and storytelling. Every day these actors are just regular people who are complete strangers to us all, but on the stage suddenly they are mothers, sisters, brothers, fathers, daughters, sons, best friends and they speak to our hearts. There's nothing else quite like this experience.
They cut out so many amazing jokes that were in the broadway version that I was looking forward to. I think it made the movie sadder whereas when I saw it on Broadway, yes I cried like 5 times or more, but I also laughed a whole bunch. Overall I liked the movie but it is in no way better than the original.

@@broadwaybiscuit8125 I feel the same. Honestly, I could go on and on about things the film didn't exactly get right. Also, yes, Andy Randy and the love thy neighbor scene were definitely the best parts of it
100% agree , also wasn't a huge fan of the costume design , like i loved dee dees yellow cape but the rest of her costumes were just not right , that purple dress she wears at the start should have been gold it would fit much better with her character and would look nice with her hair and makeup
I literally can’t listen to a song from this show without wanting to cry, it makes me so happy.

The *YUH GET INTO IT* sent me 😭
a lot of people are saying that the Netflix version is the 'straightest queer movie ever' and i kind of get that tbh. even though the material is pretty much the same, the musical seems to have a different, less hettie vibe?? Perhaps because the movie seemed to have even less of the lesbians than in the musical - how could they CUT THEIR BIT in You Happened?? The audacity!!! As a result, I didn't feel the same chemistry between Emma and Alyssa; for me, they just didn't click in the same way as in the musical.
I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID
Everyone is entitled to their opinion!
I agree
I agree! I think one of the things they should have done was cast more LGBTQ+ actors, I think it would have added more depth to their portrayal of the characters
Also I wasn’t involved in their relationship in the film like I couldn’t care less that they broke up as I didn’t know them. But the stage show I was sobbing my heart out 💜
The part where they’re all trying not to laugh... I love it so much 😂
SHE HAS A LADYBIRD POSTER IN HER ROOM GASPGASPGASP
Ahh timestamp plz!
oh i was barely familiar with the staged version so i guess i kind of just passively accepted the movie?? but now im fully team musical prom live theatre just does it better
anddd that’s the reason i made this cideo
I enjoyed the movie, buuuut I was very upset that they cut You Happened, and also I felt like the interpretation of Emma in the movie was less introverted and awkward, which is something I loved about her in the musical. Also Andrew Rannels was fantastic
The full tutorial disappeared and I am heartbroken.
me too i’m so upset
I watched it the other day after seeing the movie for the first time last week and reading how much the show was better. I LOVED it and wanted to watch it with the wife today.... :( fingers crossed a new tutorial gets loaded.
I was literally just gonna watch it tonight. I was so pissed becuase I saw it literal days ago. Oh well, it will resurface eventually.

See, I really like this - it knows what it is. The movie just came across as preachy / cringe : (
ikr!
Omg the Broadway performance was more more cute huhu thanks for posting a clip of it their costumes and raw emotions huhu so this is the beauty of a love performance that they talk about
5:56 the person filming was sobbing, just like the rest of us
Thank you so much for posting this.
I'm in love with Caitlin and Izzy.
Kisses from Brasil.
It legit took me 10 seconds to start crying at unruly heart, i literally NEVER cry at movies/musicals but the prom takes 10 seconds to crack me omg
It’s the cat onesie for me
THAT KILLED ME-
I have that exact onesie, it’s fantastic
@@jerikatz8570 SAME!!!!
This is just... so amazing!! The acting in the show, the heart that every person put into is so visible on screen, and Emma as a character??? DO NOT GET ME STARTED I LOVE HER!! As someone who lives in India, knowing I'll never get to see this show, this video really made my day!! Thank you!
OMG NO PROBLEM! this comment means a lot
ngl I was just gonna skim thru the movie for andrew rannells’ parts but decided to give the whole thing a shot and........I was disappointed with a whole bunch of things :( besides the fact that I wish they casted the original broadway cast (or at least an actual gay man instead of james corden), I feel like emma and alyssa’s relationship wasn’t developed as well as it was in the musical, which sucks because their relationship is kinda the thing that spurred all the events in the show
all that being said, I’m still glad people are getting into the musical because of the movie, but as someone who saw the musical first, the movie was.....meh in comparison
YUPPP I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU JUST SAID
*Was that second kiss in the ending scene supposed to happen??*
i think so
Actually no they usually punch up with their hands together at the end. And I think because it's their last Caitlin and Izzy just went for it. The second kiss is the cutest ever omg
actually no! that was the last performance so its not typical. same with the claps in "Build a Prom" and the cat onesie in the scene right before Zazz. Some of the clips are just because the cast improved quite a bit in the last show
@@ANicole079 wait wait that is so cute omg
This video brought me more joy and emotion than the entire movie did. Thank you.

Yea
@@broadwaybiscuit8125 in the musical? Because dont you disrespect Brooks like that >:((((
When your realize this is closing night....
James Corden’s portrait of Barry is an ABSURDITY compared to Brooks Ashmanskas PERIODT.
LITERALLY- james was so...boring
No
I like James as Barry.
6:22 please! is this shelby's coming out too? i hope.
I love this and I was at the performance in some of these clips because so much of this is from the final performance. Hence the cat onesie. Pretty sure everyone laughed for a good few minutes when Caitlin entered. I wish we got a pro shot of the show
i cried. i literally cried and i watch this show like 35 times. AND I. CRY.
AGAIN.
oh thank you so much for this, really saved my day
oh god :') there's nothing quite like live theatre
yuhhh
I played Emma in this musical last June and I could not for the life of me get though the last part of Unruly Heart without sobbing, because the entire ensemble standing behind me BOOMING in harmony filled me with so much emotion for this ALREADY HELLA EMOTIONAL song. Luckily it added to the feelings for the audience
(I already miss doing this show with the amazing cast we had SO MUCH)
honestly I love Meryl Streep and I would watch her doing anything for 3h straight, but I feel like they made Dee Dee kind of the protagonist of the story. And some jokes were cut out or just didn't work in the script. The actings were great, but Emma had a smile in her face the whole fucking movie, and I don't know why but the settings didn't feel natural to me (not to mention YOU HAPPENED)
YEP! she was breaking up with alyssa like 😃😃
I liked the movie, it was cute an enjoyable but I wish they hadn’t cut parts of songs and added storylines.
(well, longer, as I put this on loop for forever).
omg this comment made MY day 🥺
The audience is so active and lively in all of these scenes!!!!! I MISS BROADWAY SO MUCHHH GOOODBYEEEE!!!!
at the end when they're just so happy with each other and dancing and laughing,, it's just so pure i can't 🥺🥺💞💗💞💗
I love this show sm 😭😭💙💜
I remember when I first watched a prom slime and I couldn't stop smiling!! I have a similar body type to the actress who played emma and I had never felt more represented :')
Emma was literally smile the whole movie even in the sad scenes! It was so frustrating also I wish that Emma had been played by Caitlin Kinnunun (the actor here)
I agree! It threw me off so much.
Like I get it she was trying to stay positive but even when she was crying she seemed happy. And that break up scene was so bad how she just smiled the entire time.
literally! when she was breaking up with alyssa she was like 😃😃
exactly, a line like "I don't know what to do, I'm so scared" delivered really flatly with a wide smile on her face feels so weird. I really didn't like her portrayal but to be fair it is her first big acting gig and I'm sure she'll improve.
What bugs me is that she literally auditioned for the movie as Emma and they didn't cast her.
@@krizhadelaserna9467 nooooooo that’s awful
Thank you for this i am now in love with this version of emma she's so cute i can't. Also i jumped at the kiss and i knew it was coming i got so excited lmao i wanna watch the whole thing now
no problem! this is why i made the video :)
I'm sure I will be watching it again and again when I need a pick-me-up.
hey! no problem and i’m glad you liked the video! i’m also glad you liked the movie. :)
i agree my favorite highlight of the movie is andrew ranell’s singing love thy neighbor
and the It’ Time to Dance song for both onstage and the movie !
Sooo im going to Cleveland on nov 7 and I can't wait.!!!! I dident go to my senior prom. I came out and was very depressed and pissed because of my life (1999). Soooo this will be my prom to remember. I ammm soooo excited.
Ryan Murphy really had Kevin Chamberlin right there and still chose James to play Barry.
ive been watching this for an uhealthy amount of times even tho im just new to this musical =D

Why did I cry more at this video than the movie...
Omg this is so wholesome!! You literally made my day :D
And, yes, I am sobbing rn
this comment made my day😭💕💕💕
The thing that strikes me about this video is the comments from the creator about how much this show and the actors impacted them. That's the power of acting and storytelling. Every day these actors are just regular people who are complete strangers to us all, but on the stage suddenly they are mothers, sisters, brothers, fathers, daughters, sons, best friends and they speak to our hearts. There's nothing else quite like this experience.
I LOVED this video! Great job. I agree with your choices / cuts. Made me tear up. Thank you!
thanks! :)
They cut out so many amazing jokes that were in the broadway version that I was looking forward to. I think it made the movie sadder whereas when I saw it on Broadway, yes I cried like 5 times or more, but I also laughed a whole bunch. Overall I liked the movie but it is in no way better than the original.
nothing beats the original:)
Whenever this pops up I cannot not watch. Also, I want to learn the moves!
I’ve watched this soooo many times and I love it so much. Dying to see the musical now
Anyone have the closing night bootleg? The bootleg got removed and i really wanna watch it again. This musical is so funny and relatable for me

I LOVE THIS MORE THAN THE MOVIE OMG SISNDHSJNSD SO MUCH CHEMISTRY
i watched the movie first but when everyone on stage started crying at the dance with you reprise part i started too :')
Anyone mind explaining to me why is everyone laughing at 4:20? Is it because of her onesie? Is it different than other performances?
yeah, barry called her “kitty cat”, which was improvisation! in the regular show (this is closing night) she wears a different outfit, which she isnt.
just this 10 minute video is better than the movie
wait woah woAH WOAH this is a different bootleg than I have :000
