- We've lived alongside cats for over 10,000 years. But to say we've domesticated them might be a stretch. Today, for lulz, we dive into our complex relationship with cats over the years, and how they became Lords of the Internet.

I care for many stray and feral colonies near my house. It is literally what I do for a living since it has become such a big problem. I've built bonds with all of them and do whatever I can for them.. but in the meantime.. I was like.. how did we domesticate these animals yet them be so independent? That led me to YT which lead me here and I am not disappointed. Such a well done video that I plan on showing to many of my colleagues. Cats are superior and I will not hear otherwise. 😜🥰🥰🌹

I did not know religion impacted the bubonic plague. That’s a big detail that we didn’t learn at school and its actually kept me interested. Fun fact: cats were worshipped as gods during the Ancient Egypt period (approximately 3100 BCE - 30 BCE). A god during that period was: Bastet, also known as bast. Another fact is that Cleopatra had a cat. It’s name was Tivali, which means “Gift of God”.

Cats are actually really social. They live in groups called colonys and they live similarly to lions

In the wild they are extremely social and do live in colonies, but housed cats tend to be more isolated and territorial.

Thanks for making this channel, can u do this for a brief history of hamster too ? Since hamster still newly domesticated animals. Unlike dogs and cats which domesticated since 10 to 30 thousands years ago...hamster is still newly domesticated since 1910 - 1940 and its just a century...Thanks if you can do that

Honestly, goats actually do eat anything in front of them. I have a few goats and they've eaten their fair share of non-food items. For example, Coconut is known for eating chalk. They all took part in eating a broom. Oh, and also a basket we'd thrown out. Plus people. They WILL try to eat your fingers if you let them. Also they like to lick the sweat off your arms on a hot day, which tbh feels kinda nice.

You missed out on telling your audience that for a long period of time it was a capital offense to smuggle or transport cats out of Egypt in ancient times. They would kill you for it.
Great idea starting the video with “since the beginning of the internet” and then use the historical context before as a supplemental.
At least the internet age sort of makes the animals less alien and people more part of the animals in this light…

Interesting note, ships back in the day carrying grain and such had to have a cat on board the ship, otherwise insurance companies refused to cover them.

Toxo is such a dumb parasite, but also kind of smart... Dumb that it kills the host, but smart because it passively forces the host back to cats by taking away defensive instincts developed to protect the host. Cats and rodents are attracted to the same types of places, and if you take away the rodents fear of the cat, thats exactly toxo.

Cats adopted us they use our homes as hotels. They disappear for weeks and we find out later it's been living next door
